Already done this yesterday. The joy of living in Australia. I'm usually a day ahead. Quite a few men and women walking around Brisbane city yesterday morning (keep in mind it is about 9:40am on the 15th now for me) with flowers and chocolates. Newsagents and florist love this day in Aus.

Gave her a card, flowers and took her out for dinner. As for me, well she got me some stuff to use/put in my office when I start my PhD on Monday (one of the items was an indoor plant, so I have to look after it :)

Strange gift for the day, but it is the thought that matters to me, plus she has never celebrated Valentines (I don't think they have it in China).

So anyway, thanks for the gifts Lin. I love you sweetie.

I did thank you Gavin, I got some Thornton's chocolate. It's really nice chocolate made in Sheffield, Yorkshire, north UK, where I did my degree and lived for a while. A real chocolate treat from my gal.

Just did a little searching and discovered that while Valentines day is not 'celebrated', it is borrowed from Western culture (it is up to individual people and does not have the same profile as Aus) on the 14th Feb in China, they do have the Qi Xi (七夕; "The Night of Sevens"), which is similar and sometimes referred to as the Chinese Valentines. See the following for information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_Valentine%27s_Day

So I think that might mean two 'Valentines' days each year for us.

I guess that is one of the joys of getting together with someone from outside your own culture. You get to see and learn another. Now if only I could speak Chinese\\Mandarin. That's the next challenge, but it will be fun and I wouldn't want it any other way.

Sounds good. Just don't eat it all at once. I find if I eat too much chocolate in one go I end up feeling not so good. Better to have it over a few days or more. While chocolate is one of the big gifts for Valentines and I know my sweetie loves chocolate, sometimes it is just too sweet and makes her feel a bit off colour. So I don't give her chocolate too often (but I find other gifts).

My Lady and I celebrated on the 12th. No reservation needed at the restaurant and flowers are 50 - 75% cheaper!
I got boxer shorts (not telling ya what's printed on them) and Spiderman Valentine's chocolates (I'm a huge Spidey fan!)
She likes Cadbury chocolate made in the UK (most Cadbury stuff sold here is made domestically(and half the price! SHEESH) and not up to her exacting standards. lol)so I have a source for imported items like that.

My warmest wishes go out to all the staff @ SETI and all the posters on the boards. May your hearts find peace and joy! HAPPY ST. VALENTINE'S DAY

"i was alone, i took a ride i didn't know what i would find there.

another road where maybe i could see another kind of mind there.

ooh then i suddenly see you.

ooh did i tell you i need you every single day of my life you didn't run,

you didn't lie.

you knew i wanted just to hold you.

and had you gone, you knew in time we'd meet again for i had told you."
