Hi, I've been "crunching" data for some time now and I'm wondering if all our work had led to something new in the matter of finding signs of extra-terrestrial intelligence. And, because I'm not willing to browse the web in search of the information, I thought that I could start a discussion here. :) So, where are we ? Anne © anne schmidt - L'Humeur Bleue |

Hi, Good morning Anne, I suspect we have a new pile of candidates...and signals flagged as candidates will be caused by man made RFI...well, the overwhelming majority of them anyway... |

Hi, Hello Anne, sometimes it is just easyier to talk to someone who might know, or having a discussion about the topic, than going and doing a search on the web! As i'm sure you guessed seti did not find any aliens yet. But If we could wind the clock forward in time and see the headline in the newspaper in 50 or 100 or 150 years time, "Seti found the WOW signal" would'nt that make it worth it. Mankind will find life elsewhere in the universe, i think we just cant say if it will be tomorrow, next year or 100 years. Its a needle in a haystack and we dont know which haystack out of billions to look in! Its a leap of faith! |

Some first attempt of information about it has been made in the Science status page. An interesting reading also is the Future plans. A lot of people are also waiting for Astropulse to start. @Byron, nice to see you here after a long time. I hope you are doing well. Best regards, Thierry |

SETI is the most exciting and delirious project ever made by humankind. It's my opinion, of course. :) It reminds me that, when I joined, the first wu I received had been recorded on my birth date, last year. It made me thrill, as you can imagine, because I tend to believe in this kind of "signs" ... Maybe, the time remaining before we find this "wow signal" is shorter than the time already spent trying to identify it ..? :))) Anne © anne schmidt - L'Humeur Bleue |

Well, due to our still somehwhat primitive detection equipment, most SETI astronomers aren't surprised we haven't found anything yet, even if there are 50,000 civilizations in our galaxy. Seth Shostak, SETI senior-astronomer, estimates from the rate of our technological progress in detecting, we find something between the year 2020 and 2025. Of course that's just an estimate and we could find something tomorrow, if we're lucky. |

It's at hand !!! My God, if it could be true ! Well, now, let's say that the signal has actually been detected, do you think that the authorities will let the news go public ? And if they don't, will there be someone to leak it out ..? Anne © anne schmidt - L'Humeur Bleue |

2020/2025 ? It's at hand !!! My God, if it could be true ! If someone leaked it out, would anyone believe them and would these signals be dismissed as interference by special military satellites and so no further discussion would be advisable. The impression I get from what I've read and seen is that most plausible ufo sitings have turned out (eventually) to have been experimental (read deep black) military weapons or stealth planes being tested, taking a good few decades for the 'truth' to come out - sort of. Join TeamACC Sometimes I think we are alone in the universe, and sometimes I think we are not. In either case the idea is quite staggering. |

2020/2025 ? It's at hand !!! My God, if it could be true ! I must say that I don't know where I stand about the UFO sightings, alledged "close encounters", abductions, etc. Some years ago, all this fascinated me, but today ... Maybe I'm too old to simply believe ..? As for myself, I tend to believe that the news would go public, however it manages to do so. Now, will people believe it or not ? That's another story. :) Anne © anne schmidt - L'Humeur Bleue |

the history of SETI tells me that we'd most likely know about the promising signal even before it's confirmed. |
