Also keep in mind the project servers enforce a 10 min. delay between host RPC's. It looks like you running a short connect interval, and that last result ran so quick it was done before the timeout. Of course that won't help if Ageless' observation of a "No work from project" message was more than just a glitch. ;-) Alinator |

397889853 95386502 18 Oct 2006 16:10:41 UTC (cpu seconds 89.38) (credit 0.12) This problem cleared within 10-15 minutes, right? This is a noisy work unit -- there were so many signals in it that it's probably just terrestrial noise. The SETI servers won't take requests more often than every 10 minutes. Raise your "connect every 'x' days" interval slightly (maybe 0.2 to start, then up by 0.1) until you've got two or three work units, and then BOINC won't need more work right away when it hits a noisy WU. |

397889853 95386502 18 Oct 2006 16:10:41 UTC (cpu seconds 89.38) (credit 0.12) i changed that, and still no work, even though it connected and asked for some, gotta wait 10 mins again. so it looks like it crapped out for the day. and i only ever get one work unit at a time. so this time ia wasted, and so was 89 seconds unless that has ET calling from home in english saying he wants his m&m's back I AM NOT FAT! so this time ia wasted, and so was 89 seconds unless... The 89 seconds was not wasted. The only way to find which work units are noisy is to crunch them and find out. It's up to you what to do next. If you leave BOINC running, it'll get work once the problems at SETI are fixed. If you shut down and try again tomorrow, you'll likely get work then. Up to you. |

397889853 95386502 18 Oct 2006 16:10:41 UTC (cpu seconds 89.38) (credit 0.12) Don't worry too much Sammy, As I'm getting the No work tag here too, So It isn't on Your end, It looks like It's on the other end, Teething problems or old hardware, It could be worse possibly and hopefully It'll just get better for all of US real soon. Raise your "connect every 'x' days" interval slightly (maybe 0.2 to start, then up by 0.1) until you've got two or three work units, and then BOINC won't need more work right away when it hits a noisy WU. There is actually, since several days, a problem with the setting of the general preferences: when making changes to it and hitting the "Update" button of the Boinc Manager makes no changes to the host. Admin are aware of the problem. |

It does look like something is not quite right with the preferences as I can not get any work tonight for my latest machine. "Connect to network about every" is set to 10.0 days and has not been changed since Tuesday when I noticed that the gremlins had set it to 2.0 days. I recommend setting your "connect to network about every "X" days" to 5.0 Sammie to see what work comes in, the watchword here being patience as it can take a few hours for activity to start. Good Luck. Kind Regards, Graeme. www.boincuk.com |

any chance your useing mediacom Hi Sammie and Welcome Back! Are you attached to any other project? If so you can change the preferences and update from the other project. It seems that jusst SETI has the problem of updating preferences right now. They have been doing a lot of changes with the system, installing a new server, etc. and haven't gotten around to fixing whatever broke yet. If not, and you want your preferences updated quickly then you might pick another project and attach to it, change your preferences and update then detach from the project. Of course it helps during server outages to have a "backup project" to crunch for so your computer doesn't run out of work to do, but if this doesn't matter to you, simply make the changes then detach from it. any chance your useing mediacom hi jim i did choose the bbc climate one, but i was supprised that it took over and deleted seti, so i set what i had to, and dumped it again, but it has made changes to boinc that it didnt remove when i detached. i think that is naughty to dump other projects you have and make you add them again, but i get 3 work units now, so i'm happy with that, it will cover server outages. thanx sammie xXx I AM NOT FAT! any chance your useing mediacom Yes, I think BBC Climate insists you use their version of BOINC which is slightly different from ours. (though not incompatable). You might want to uninstall then reinstall BOINC if it has caused changes that you don't want or like. I should have suggested something like einstein or something that uses the same standard BOINC. Sorry 'bout that! Jim Some people plan their life out and look back at the wealth they've had. Others live life day by day and look back at the wealth of experiences and enjoyment they've had. |
