Thanks for that. Our Prime minister, I think this is his fourth term. It's been so long now since he came to power I've forgotten. Anyway he's coming under pressure to go so he may step down next year. Gordon Brown might take his place but we don't really know just yet. Also our judges are not elected to Office by the public vote, whereas I believe yours are. Our judges are chosen by the senior judge or, Lord Chancellor, as he is called. This means that judges here are not really accountable to the public in any real sense so they can't be voted out of office. So if we get a really bad or unpopular judge, the public can't have any input into whether they stay or go. Sue 'No one can make you inferior without your consent.' Eleanor Roosevelt. |

If I'm not mistaken ( I probably am ) most of the judges at the higher levels of the court are appointed by politicians such as the President. In the event of a Supreme Court seat opening, The President appoints the judge to take the seat. The Congress goes through hearings to confirm the appointment, but in most cases, the hearings are not much more than an opportunity for politicians to ask the appointee questions before confirming him/her anyway. I am almost postive that the Federal Court judges and Appellate Court judges are appointed as well, although I am not sure by whom. |

Dearest Maggie: The Seti project was designed to search for some minimal sign that intelligent life beside mankind existed in the universe. Yet so far, from posts such as yours, all it has proven is that overwrought hysterical and minimally intelligent life exists on Earth. We are not at war for oil, but rather to keep uncivilized sub-human religious fanatics from flying into our buildings with commercial jet liners loaded with highly refined petroleum products, thereby killing thousands of our innocent citizens. We are at war with a morally bankrupt and failed culture that measures its greatet accomplishment by producing a religion requiring the enslavement and eventual murder of anyone rejecting its seventh century tenents. We are at war with a culture that would oppress women, strip them of their right to freedom, property, education, and even their genitalia. We are at war with a culture that uses its women and children as weapons and human shields in the jihad against the infidel. Are there deluded imbeciles in the world? Yes Maggie, there are - and we have to look no further than your post to find one. I do hope you find a cure before it's too late. Meanwhile, leave running the world to us cowboys, we have the guns, enormous war machines driven by internal combustion engines, and the will to fight. If there is a problem with Bush, it's that he isn't trigger happy enough, but wait 'till you see what's coming! |

One has to be careful what one believes. World media are no better than gossip-mongers, bent on causing strife in order to sell more of their product, which is normally lowest common denominator, anyway. What this means is: Citizens of any particular country will only hear what the media WANTS them to hear about other countries. Make sense? Terrorists are not born, they are made. Usually from conditions of extreme poverty, disenfranchisement and a feeling of being controlled. There will ALWAYS be such people, no matter how hard you try. The way to beat terrorism is to investigate openly and honestly the conditions that breed such angry people, and to do your best to lessen those conditions, or at least, their effects. Personally, I wish we had less American TV here, as our youngsters are growing up not knowing our own version of the English language. This may seem petty, until you realise that language and culture are one. This is not the fault of Americans, it is the cause of cheapskate TV channel directors, seeking to reduce expenses involved in making local productions. The fact these aren't sold abroad as strongly as American produce is due to incompetent management, IMHO. Imagine, however, the effect on countries where the native language isn't English. The cultural loss is even greater. As I said, this isn't the fault of Americans, but the finger gets pointed, nonetheless. As a "veteran" British soldier during the Irish "troubles" I copped a lot of abuse, particularly as my ancestry is 100% Irish, so I know what it is like to be atacked by rabid bigots. I could rant on with this subject, but I shall finish here. I think I have made my point to those with an IQ in the double figure range. Respectfully lgmfm |

Ah, I see. I thought they were elected to office by public vote in their particular State or 'constituency.' I have no idea how the American machine works. Our representatives in Parliament ARE elected by the public in local elections. Candidates, or local Party members can become MPs if they are elected by popular vote, I believe. (Someone is going to come along in a minute and say I'm mistaken) but I think I am right. They then go on to represent their local constituents in Parliament. But they can only be chosen for the Cabinet by other MPS or the Priminister, I think. We have two Houses in Parliament, the House of Commons, where all the MPs sit and the House of Lords where all the Peers sit. These Peers are not elected by the public; they are there by virtue of Birth or Privilege. But when a law is passed by the Commons it gets debated in the Lords, and can be altered, changed or watered down by them. The final stage is where the Queen gives it her seal of approval by her signature. That is ONE way that laws are made in this country. Sue. 'No one can make you inferior without your consent.' It's been a LONG time since I had any reason to know the way our government is supposed to work...lol Let's see here. We have two houses as well. The House of Representatives and The House of Congress. They are all elected officials. Making of laws starts in the House of Rep. as a bill. If it passes there it goes to Congress. Congress can pass it or send it back to the House of Rep. with changes, where it would need to be passed again. If it passes with the changes. it then gets passed by Congress and heads to the desk of the President who can either sign the bill into law, or veto it. I think Congress can override the Veto, but don't quote me on that. Like I said, it's been a LONG time since High School Government class. :-) ---------------------------------------- On that note, I really must get some sleep. Dearest Maggie: Oh dear. You don't actually believe that? Here is an extract from one of your government's policy documents relating to a region post WWII that was to be subordinate to the needs of the American economy. It was proposed that this Grand Area (a region strategically necessary for world control) should consist of the western hemisphere, far east, British Empire, western southern Europe and the OIL PRODUCING regions of the middle East. George Kennan, a head of the State Department policy planning staff in the late 1940s wrote this extract from the document PPS23: "We have about 50 percent of the world's wealth, but only 6.3 percent of its population.... In this situation, we cannot fail to be the object of envy and resentment. Our real task in the coming period is to devise a pattern of relationships which will permit us to maintain this position of disparity.... We need not deceive ourselves that we can afford today the luxury of altruism and world-benefaction.... We should cease to talk about vague and..., unreal objectives such as human rights, the raising of the living standards, and democratization. The day is not far off when we are going to have to deal in straight power concepts. The less we are then hampered by idealistic slogans, the better." Reality Internet Personality |

THE LORD GOD HAS GIVEN YOU THESE 15, CRASH, 10 COMMANDMENTS!! Just kidding, they aren't that hard to follow regardless of your religion...just insert your personal god here. It's amazing to me that so many people are so concerned about the quality of life in the middle east. They have been a culture for thousands of years; who are we to teach them otherwise. One wonders why they hate us so much. It's not as if we are trying to take over the middle east.... It's not as if we are currently building 14 or so military bases there. All we want is a stable world where our cultural needs are imposed and absorbed. It will take some time, but I think we can westernize everyone. Just imagine a world where everyone is american or british or german or italian..... Whatever happened to all those folk down in south africa??? Why don't we care about those people down there? Oh, that's right, you can't run an engine on hot air and sand. It's time to release the chains on the iraqi people and hope that the lesson in democracy was taken to heart. No matter who you are or what religion you practice, killing is wrong. If your intentions are true and peaceful, then there is no need to harm anyone. Not everyone is like that, so I'll thank all veterans who put aside the crap and get down to business. |

Our President can only stay in office for 4 years per term, and a maximum of two terms for a total of eight years. Except during times of war... Does the war on terror fit the bill? How about the war in Iraq? Maybe, maybe not... Only time will tell... But I'm sure the card will be played... ;) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |

The House of Representatives is Congress. The Senate is the other part. Whoops. I knew I would screw something up. My mistake. |

The House of Representatives is Congress. The Senate is the other part. Well...I am far from the best. lol I should know better than to try to discuss our system of government after working the graveyard shift. :-) (edit) Thanks for correcting me on that, Ziggy. |

Our President can only stay in office for 4 years per term, and a maximum of two terms for a total of eight years. That's not entirely true, CA. If he were to go so far as to declare a state of Martial Law, he could remain in power indefinitely. |
