Of all the animals that could have killed him, it was a damn stingray. I will miss this guy.

Wow, this is definately sad news. I've watched him since his Crocodile Hunter stuff was on tv here in the USA. He'll be missed for sure.

This is one of the few times that I consider the day a celebrity dies a truly sad day.

Yes, this is sad. But at least he went the way he lived. I think if he had been able to choose which way to go, this would have been his choice.

But it's a tragedy as he wasn't very old and with small children. As I read it, his daughter was on the ship also, it must have been terrible for her.

May he rest in peace and God bless his family.

Steve Irwin employed 370 people at his Australia Zoo in Queensland. He had a yearly wages bill of AUS$10,000,000

A repeat of an interview with Steve was broadcast tonight in Australia, and will appear on http://www.abc.net.au/enoughrope

I laughed 'til I cried

Farewell Steveo. I only wish there were more like you.

A great example of an outback aussie. A love of life, a great sense of humour, and a respect for everything around him.

A shocking loss. In so many ways.

I didn't watch every single show he did, but the ones I did watch, always made me laugh. The guy was a great humanitarian, and at one with nature. He will be greatly missed.... )-:<

In Steve Irwin's own words

***

"When I see what's happened all over the world, they're looking at me as this very popular, wildlife warrior, Australian bloke. And yet back here in my own country some people find me a little bit embarrassing."

***

"Crikey, mate. You're far safer dealing with crocodiles and western diamondback rattlesnakes than the executives and the producers and all those sharks in the big MGM building."

***

"I bled a lot. I got hit across the face. We couldn't film for seven days. I got whacked, underwater, across the face. I finished the shot, got into the boat and blood started coming out."

***

"I get called an adrenaline junkie every other minute, and I'm fine with that."

***

"I have no fear of losing my life. If I have to save a koala or a crocodile or a kangaroo or a snake, mate, I will save it."

***

"I would never blame an animal if it bit me, because I'm at fault, not them. I heal so quickly. If you cut my arm off I would grow a new one."

***

"I'm high as a kite, mate. I'm flat out like a lizard drinking, all the time. You know I have trouble just sitting here. You know, I'm just like, got to get up."
