This thread is about Donations, or what "we" can put together. Due to Your Efforts, we can look at the Projects List.

* SETI@home Enhanced
* Multi-Beam Data Recorder
* Near Time Persistency Checker
* Astropulse

We find that there were a couple of things that were still waiting on funding. The Funding obtained for the Seti Project (Total Donations: $ 264114.57) has allowed.

Two of the four items to be in place, the Multi-Beam Seti Application is being prepared in Seti Beta...

Seti Enhanced has Increased the amount of Science that is done with the "data" and prevented "us" from running out of work...

For all those of You that have been able to contribute and we know the First Fund Drive did not go real well. "WE" still have a ways to go... If we dig up the Budget. We can look and see that something constructive was done with the Funds. That also tells us that besides the remaining parts of the Project, funds are need for Basic Connectivity and Operations.

The "Near Time Persistency" Checker is going to take a bit of programming and a bit of new hardware to get it off the ground... Astropulse appears "delayed" as work to be able to Crunch Workunits from the New Multi Beam Receiver is in progress. So Testing of the Seti Application 5.17 is in progress in Seti Beta... You are more than Welcome to stop in and view what is happening.

I Understand that issues with money transfers from Europe are still an issue. I also understand that if it is a choice between Eating and Seti, well Eating Wins...

Thank You, For Your Considerations

Pappa

As I replied in Seti Main, a reference to starting "friends and family."

This is a help, but for many it becomes short term... It is nice when it is "shiny and new"... So unless you can provide a Long Term Reason they it is Important... It dies at the first problem they can not overcome or contact you... I guess that is part of why Seti Classic had 5.4 million users and at the end about a half a million diehards... If we look at the Stats site that is down to about half...

At a point in time I created a self extracting zip that would handle the install for Seti Classic (with SetiSpy) that as long as they could type in there email address and retrieve the "key" they were running... But then as I said it is "shiny and new" and when interest is lost... They did not find ET...

I am beginning to think that it boils done to a group of individuals that are not afraid of what they might find or how it could affect the world... We are a small place in the grander scheme of things... "WE" should keep trying, with as much as we can muster... Generally we know there is more, but how do we find it? Many Keep Trying! Some have better Funding... Seti is the Poster Child for "Trying!" I guess the "Success" is that BOINC is now helping many projects that would have gone unfunded... Silly me but with all the problems here "that" is Success! So we are now trying to keep the founding organization "alive." Personally I feel that it is worthy...

Many "Here" and other BOINC Projects are working to find "IT"... "We" know there is something and keep trying... So problems aside, we continue... "WE" know that we are helping in ways that others do not understand, it is not that they are wrong but may not have the persistence that is needed...

"WE" do what we can do, the Administrators do that they can do in their "day" and then have to go home to the Family... While at times "We" want more, we still have to fall back to what "WE" can do... "WE" have to respect their right to having a Life also...

I still have to say that if you can not afford to support with money, then do not be discouraged... Those that can help will try...

Keep Crunching...

Scrap as I put my Soap Box away...

This very popular late night radio show host, Art Bell, read a 60 second news bit concerning setiathome's need for further donations. He referenced Arthur C. Clarke's letter where he requested more funds on behalf of SETIatHome.

Incidentally, this show is routinely discussed in the Cafe here in the 'Myths and Legends' thread. It will be interesting to see if a larger than normal amount of donations arrive in the next day or two.

Robert

At this point I do not see a "pouring in" of funds... I also see that a bit of retraction has happened on contributions... Art Bell is into sensationalism that keep poeple listening... As I was informed about him years ago... He has produced nothing "tangible." If you monitor what he does then let him know he is a "fake!" That is only my opinion! He has proven it many times... Or can you say he is in it for only the money that he puts in His pocket!

Overall there is nothing for Seti!

As far as I know his "Team" is very behind in Stats...

Sorry to be so hard... But then unless you can see it in your Bank Account... It is Not Real! He See's it in his back account... It is not currently in Seti's bank account!

Pappa

Edit:

Funds are still needed here... NUF Said! In fact his "web site is DOWN" go figure...

I'm fully aware of this, Pappa. If you were familiar at all with my postings in that myths and legends thread or any other threads where controversies are discussed you will instantly recognize that I am not a sucker. I don't believe in alien abductions, Loch Ness Monster, Pyramids on Mars, or any other such thing. I merely was informing you and the readers that a news bit was read which concerned Setiathome. That is all. Carry on.

Off Topic

I hope that I did not imply that... I do know that many "see it on the Internet so it must be True."

As for what you do not believe in, there are many things that have yet to be proven... Every now and then Scientists are finding species they thought Extinct... So what we, dismiss (unproven) may not have basis in Life or Reality... Just No One has found it yet... WE are here looking for "proof." Yes I know a needle in billions of hay stacks...

Way Off Topic

Although I did see a lady in a MiniVan that almost ran a Motorcyle off the road... He was rather upset and let her know... When I passed her she was still on the Cel Phone... So I am not sure what planet/star she is from, but she definately was not on Earth that day... Maybe she was an abductee, and phoning home...

Back on Topic

Overall, the people that can and have donated are important to the continued success of the "place" that we enjoy...

Okay Folks

At this point the Tech News describes that the Tape backup drive that takes data to make workunits to Crunch Failed! They are ordering a new one and have a temporary fix... It also states that in order to get ALFA Workunits to test so they can move to Seti Main the are having to ship harddrives back and forth until the problem is resolved... Or buy more harddrives to accomlish what shipping tapes would do...

In spite of misunderstandings... Aug is still progressing Aug 2006 $2195.43 or a Total Donations: $ 265355.00

Thank You for Your Consideration...

I just donated $$$.$$ to SETI@Home. It seems to me that SETI really needs money right now and other BOINC projects such as Rosetta@Home need the computing power. We need to get out of our comfort zone and go out and enroll others in the value of SETI having the equipment they need. We cannot be concerned with our image or being right, because if we are then we are not going to raise the funds needed. If we all talked to 20 people that we cared about and asked for a $20, $50, or $100 donation, we can make it happen!

OK, so I sent over some ££££s over the pond. But can I have a blue one instead of the green one? Green is OK, but blue is good also. Do they have orange available?

Aloha

It is good to see Pappa is still trying to dig up funds. Yes we have come back to Seti. And Yes We will be donating again in the near future.

Beyond all the fighting and problems here. We do need to keep the search up.
I do not know if /when we make contact that it will be a good thing for our
planet, but then again if we do not try how are we going to know.

Now secondly, I have 4 Scsi Dat Tape Drives of 2 each of different types, all collecting dust. So I guess I will need to talk to somebody to see if either are the same type. If so they are welcome to both of them.

Pappa if you can point me to an e-mail to the proper people, that would be great.

Beach Bum

Sorry for the Delay, My Life has been "So Full Lately"... If I had time I could write Two Books (over the last two months)....

The List of Hardware and the type of SDLT Drive can be seen @ Donate Hardware

It should be a 320/600 SDLT

Email donors(at)ssl.berkeley.edu with ATTN Matt in the Subject and Body of the Email...

I know there is a link to Staff email addresses but it eludes me at the moment...

BTW: Those on Teams can Now Order Mugs and T-Shirts with TEAM Information on them from the Seti Store

I find this interesting, this is the UCB Monthly Newsletter that I am having a tough time getting off of. One of the excerpts amounts to what is below. Somewhere in that 347+ million in donations is the $260.000.00 PLUS that Seti Users have Donated!

Quote
Berkeley announces record fund raising year

For the second year in a row, UC Berkeley has set a new record for private support, reporting that alumni, parents and friends contributed $347.6 million in the 2005-06 fiscal year. The total breaks the previous record of $318.3 million set in 2004-05. The number of gifts to UC Berkeley also established a new benchmark at 87,803, up from 80,234 gifts contributed the previous year.

More

End Quote

I once again, Thank Everyone that has contributed and works to help our Favorite Place! I also understand that not everyone has the resources to help at this time, not to worry...

Regards

Pappa
