This device will actually help train people to better “read” others . . .

"The research team hopes the device will help people with autism learn to better read
the social cues of others."

Interesting. I imagine that could be used by blind people as well.

It would also allow pains in the arse to see themselves as others see them.

I guess that would cause such a psychological shock that they would shut down and never post again.

It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues

Tricky.

Since it's based on facial ticks and such, it would only work on the mainstream population. If someone grows up with little contact beyond immediate family or in an particularily rural area, there might be some serious flaws because it's likely they would develop novel behavior due to the relative isolation. Like the ESP machine examines the psychotic killer as he begins to grimace. The machine tells you "he's smiling so he likes you", but the real interpretation is "He's about to kill you, RUN!!!!" The moral of this example is that autistic people should live in the city.

Doc: "Don't tell me anything. Quiet! I'm gonna read your thoughts. Let's see now. You've come here from a great distance?"
Marty: "Yeah, exactly."
Doc: "Don't tell me! Uh, you want me to buy a subscription to The Saturday Evening Post?"
Marty: "No!"
Doc: "Not a word! Not a word! Not a word now! Quiet. Uh, donations... You want me to make a donation to the Coast Guard Youth Auxiliary."
Marty: "Doc, I'm from the future. I came here in a time machine that you invented. Now I need your help to get back to the year 1985."
Doc: "By God! Do you know what this means? It means that this damn thing doesn't work at all!"

Most interesting!
Just recently I was watching a Psychologist or Doctor (Discovery Health?? Can't remember) talking about how they help people with Autism by teaching them how to read people and social environments. I guess a gadget like this would give them an additional tool to rely on, make the task of reading others a little easier.
