Spent the last hour on the boards here.

Tony, aka MMCIASTRO deserves a hearty well done today! Looks like he has been on the boards all day answering questions for the new Boincers. He has averaged better than 12 posts an hour for the last 12 hours. His success rate appears to be well over 90%. Well done Tony!!

A big thanks also goes out to all the other helpers I havn't seen.

Tony seems to be handling the entire Q&A boards that I visit as well almost single handedly. I just hope that he does not burn out.

Congratulations Tony.

Yes Tony, Way to go man! Keep up the awesome work. I love reading all this stuff, sure brings a lot of things into perspective. Lots and lots of great answers and idea's. Now if only I could win the lottery, and buy me more stuff to stick BOINC and Seti on. hehehe :-)

I certainly give Tony the Scarecrow walrus of approval...I'm all out of seals. I just hope he doesn't end up like many tech supporters and at some point realizes that of everything he's lost, he misses his mind the most. Atta boy, Tony!

I would like to say well done to Tony.

And well done to everybody who is helping out at the Help Desk.

Hopefully I've made you lives easier by at least solving the connection failed message and posting a newer build. I'm still investigating the proxy problem.

Don't know if it'll help, but I'm _also_ seeing reports that they get the proxy box if they aren't connected to Localhost - and thus try to "attach" again, because they think they've lost everything.

And to stay "on-topic" totally - Tony, you are doing an incredible job. If there's a "MVP" award somewhere around here, you definitely should get it.

Thierry was completely right when he summoned us to the Q&A. The wave of frustrated, helpless, ranting, begging postings was incredible...

And so was Tonys commitment! No question: He's the hero of the day.

While some of us did a good job in answering, Tony was just anytime everywhere. He clearly deserves the medal!

A medal or the first to be cloned, so he cannot burn out. I am deeply sorry I went to bed for a couple of hours of zzzz's, only to find Tony still answering in there upon my return. The man must have the right Energizer battery. ;)

Way to go Tony.

Oh cut this crap out. Ageless and barbarossa have been handling the help desk all alone for a long time. If what I saw the last 24hours was any indication then they are the"heros". Not I.

Now the Coffee break is over, pick up your copy'n'paste clipboards and get back to work.

thanks for the thoughts though.

Yes, the movement of participants to help the new users is a very extrem example of the positive spirit of this SETI@home project.

I am doing BOINC and SETI@home support since the early days of the betatest and long before this boards where created. I am very exited to see so many helpfully and friendly users posts helping between all this chaos and often very rude questions.

In business, we send the supporters to special trainings repeatedly, to help them to deal with annoying and rude request. And you all are doing this as volounteers and without any help. Great work for my feeling!

And special honor to Tony who seems to be bot ;), because he never sleep. But there are many, many others too, to much to be named all.

Being back from Germany after 2 days and looking around in the message boards, I can only add the same comments as all the others to the work performed by Tony.

Tony, hope you take some sleep as well!

I just mailed with Rom about the "proxy box problem". Attaching when BOINC Manager has no connection seems to be a major part of these problem reports. Rom find this issue too and is trying to find a way to make it more clear when this happend. :)

As it turns out, you can get the wizard to display the proxy configuration page pretty easily, all you have to do is kill boinc.exe before starting the wizard.

I've just released 5.2.11 which should keep people from being able to launch the wizard until after a connection to the core client has been established.

I'm going to go get some sleep now...

I'll check on things when I get up, I suspect there might be one or two more issues in this multi-layered issue.

Have a good sleep Rom.

Downloading 5.2.8 and the very latest one. Will install first the 5.2.8 on a laptop running W2000 to see what I get with that one. After that will uninstall it and test the very latest one.

Will keep in touch once that is done.

I fully agree!

I couldn't do it myself, I've tried in the past and usually confused an already confused situation.

To all you helpers out there , you have my deepest admiration :D
