There was a code-change Monday:

HTML code in forums is now disabled by default, people will have to use BBcode from now on (Rob)

Click on this to see the BBCode information. Most HTML tags can be ported to BBCode pretty easily, except for Javascript and the like. Just change your signature to use BBCode instead of HTML.

That un-scriptability is what makes BBCode safer. The lack of zillions of parameters makes it easier for end-users unfamiliar with raw HTML.

Great, just thought about all the older posts that I used HTML code, that no longer work.

Too bad someone could not have ran a program to change the HTML code to BBcode, automatically on the forums.

Oh well, we move forward. I will just use BBcode from this point foward.

I think you'll find your old posts automatically updated.

Only the signatures. I used a lot of HTML in messages.

I believe MySQL supports Regex - you could probably write some sort of program. I discussed it with Janus and David. We pretty much came to the conclusion that it wasn't worth the downtime necessary to convert posts over, especially considering the very long warning that this change was coming. Heck, it was probably close to a month ago I wrote the HTML-disabling code in the first place (and tested it on the Break My Forums site).

Okay, I've not been here that long... but I've tried to read as many postings, in every area, as I could. Plus the technical news, the front page, etc., etc... and I've seen NO warning that this was going to happen. There is no "stickie" thread... nothing. Where was this warning???

Nice, Cafe Seti. Not all people read all forums, and it was burried in a message, not the topic, etc. I avoid Cafe Seti.

Yes, a better announcement would have been nice. As I already see, not many knew this was coming.
