Just curious, what motivates those of you that hide your computers? You do realize your IP is only visible to YOU when you're logged in, and SETI@HOME already has your IP, not to mention if you have a router it would only be your internal IP anyway!! I think seeing what machines other participants have is 1/2 the fun of SETI. comments? Makes me wonder WHY he's here in the first place. If HALF his fun is seeing what computers other users have attached, what's the other half? ALL of my fun is crunching WUs and communicating with friends and others here in the fora. There's NO half and half! So, what's his gig....? Oh, BTW! Hi Alex, how are you this weekend? I'm crunchin' just fine, for the most part.... >:-) CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? Haven't you guessed that yet, Siran? He wants to brag about his own computers, and see others so he can ridicule them and feel better than everybody else! Didn't you read his condescending posts about some computers and OS's! "I'm trying to maintain a shred of dignity in this world." - Me |

Yeah, I just re-read his posts and he definitely "lost the battle". I checked to see if he hid his computers, they're not. Maybe he hasn't been here all day because he's trying to figure it out.... >:-) CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. Um, I'm not really sure why I decided to hide my computer. I guess it's just another one of those BOINC settings that I play around with from time to time. Dunno, it was kinda... unusual to hear that seeing other puters was half the fun. Yeah, crunching WU's and hanging out at the boards with friends are the nice parts I'd say... and enhances the project experience. Of course, if he likes seeing my computer that much, it doesn't really bother me. Let see, overall my weekend was great except for the high heat over here Rick. I just went online a few hours ago and found some pretty neat themes for my XP. So I'm having some fun with those right now. Nice to hear from you again man. |

........ Well, I try to make a point of saying "HI" whenever I see you here. >:-) You're not here quite as often as some of the rest of us.... >:-( When I look to see computers, it's generally not to see the specifics of the computer[s], it's more to see how many. I couldn't care less about what their benchmarks are, how much memory they have, etc. Now, if I see someone with an almost identical one to mine, and I see that they are outdoing my crunching, I will look a little deeper to find any real major differences, but that's about it. I've been hanging out at the more obscure Questions/problems area latley and maybe trying to answer some questions for the people that are having a hard time converting to BOINC. From the looks of things over there, a whole bunch of Classic users are going to quit insted of continuing with BOINC. That's not good. |

"Behind the curve"? I think not. When I got here tonight I saw the same thread, started by you, on 2 different boards. You started the one in the Café at 0:19 UTC. 3 minutes later, at 0:22 UTC, you again posted it on the NC board. I'm usualy not one to correct an over corrected Vulcan. But the original poster posted this thread at 0:19:32 UTC, edited it at 0:22:27 UTC and made the one in NC at 0:56:48 UTC. After Tom told him to make one there. |

........ Damn! I was hoping no one noticed. And, it had to be you. I noticed it about an hour ago. I was bouncing between threads, while typing that post, and saw the edit time instead of the correct time in NC. So what! It doesn't detract from the fact that he's not here for the right reason. Why would someone come here just to look to see what computers other users have attached? Don't bother with an answer, or reply.... CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? Because he's jealous. The Airforce doesn't do better than Dell. Rumor has it their U2 spyplane has had its computers upgraded to Dells. With Windows ME. Bound to be wrong, man. (Is why he's so pissed off about them PB's with WinME ;)) |

What can you do, They have had almost a year to change things, Now classic is closing and they are complaining. That's true about all that time to change. I'm just wondering if the project people might decide to end the program if the amount of Classic SETI conversions is not enough. |

What can you do, They have had almost a year to change things, Now classic is closing and they are complaining. They Have Plenty already, The Classic come lately's are an added bonus. The Equipment is needed for BOINC/Seti/Astropulse etc. This is a natural progression of science and the projects. Classic was great for the classic users but an antiquated system. |

>>>what motivates those of you that hide your computers? Mine, of course is not hidden My Compaq Presarito is in full view But where I get my enormous volume of credits Comes from my secret box I've been to Gitmo a few times And'd rather not revisit What with the recent improvements So the puzzle re my massive accumulation Must remain obscured Til things calm down a bit...cc |
