Well, at present my system is having trouble with Deus Ex Mandkind Divided, and the latest TombRaider. Looking at some reviews, the Radeon VII and the RTX 2080 are pretty much even for the Shadow of the Tomb Raider (DX12) at 1440p, highest quality settings. The RTX 2080Ti leaves them both for dead (with a price to match of course). Grant Darwin NT |

I've always been an ATI (GPU) fan, thus can only continue to be an AMD (GPU) fan. Besides, Nvidia is only just releasing cards with 8GB on board, my RX470 had that already and that's a 3 year old card. I'd then rather go for the next best thing, 16GB on board. Especially as the system will sport 32GB of DDR4 3200 (or higher clocked). Let's not bottleneck anything here. :-) |

If you are committed to AMD that is fine, but if you are thinking about the Radeon VII I would wait a bit before buying one. Some Youtubers are claiming the Radeon VII as dead with the arrival of the Super cards. If others feel the same way I can definitely see a price drop for that card. Nvidia is only just releasing cards with 8GB on board, This is a misstatement in fact. I have had my 1070 cards since Oct 2016 and they have 8GB of memory. So for three years, just like your AMD RX470, I have had 8GB in all my cards except for the one 1060 6GB I dallied with. You're right, of course. I think I should've said on all but the mid-range to high-end cards. Even the 1660 only has 6GB. And AMD does it as well, mostly offering RX570s with just 4GB of memory. Bill wrote: but if you are thinking about the Radeon VII I would wait a bit before buying one. It's been €709 - €750 since I started looking into it in April. Hasn't wavered yet in price. The VII is 7nm, I didn't know that. Most of the price is defined by the HBM2 memory used, as that's expensive. I also see in the article I read that it doesn't have PCIe 4.0 support, which may be a bummer. Then again with a memory bandwidth of 1024GB/sec I don't think it matters much. :-) What I may just not be able to live with is the power usage during gaming (close to 280W) and the fans making a lot of noise then (62dB) (in the article). But: I'm not in a hurry. The new system won't be coming till September/October. By then we'll have had some reviews of Navi cards, so I may as well change to one of those. |

To get the noise down along with the temps, you could always throw a custom water block on the card. Of course you will need the other parts for the custom loop. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Reading the ComputerBase review, they undervolted the GPU by 0.1 Volt, which caused the card to use just 207 Watt while gaming in 4K. Might be interesting. https://www.computerbase.de/2019-02/amd-radeon-vii-test/4/#abschnitt_messung_der_leistungsaufnahme For now I'll sit back and wait for reviews of the Navis. |

I wish I had time to answer all the interesting posts I want to reply to in these threads but atm have none :) Just wanted to drop in with a bit of an esoteric comment.... I always feel relieved when I stick my neck out and say something/anything that is my own opinion with zero mainstream support and eventually have someone I trust come out and say the same thing! Almost like, "I'm not crazy after all" :) So here's one of my favorite nerds on YouTube, Richard from Digital Foundry. And everything he's saying about Navi, AMD vs Nvidia, as well as prices is pretty much exactly how I saw these past few weeks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mL6X7xmagG0 Though I still think the 5700XT should have launched at $300... Edit: and here's their "super" review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnlALzlrtxo |

Looks like AMD have finally got something competitive in the mid range, and with reasonable power usage as well. Will hopefully result in a bit of a shakeout in Nvidia's pricing. Grant Darwin NT |

Anthony of Linus Tech Tips reviewing the Radeon 5700 and 5700 XT versus the Nvidia 2060- and 2070 Super. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bmQPx9EJLA Long story short, don't buy the XT yet as it will quickly overheat and shut itself down. Bummer. As overall it's a fine card. |

It was reported to AMD, who have managed to reproduce it in their lab. They expect they can fix it, with either a firmware update or newer drivers. |

Does any else have this card, RX 5700? I just started using it today and it is blowing through GPU tasks in 10-11 minutes but so far results are marked as inconclusive. The CPU tasks don't have this issue. Anyone have the issue or tips about what to check? If I'm returning bad data I may as well shutdown the GPU to SETI if I'm just returning garbage. Thanks. |

I've just had a very quick look at the results from your new GPU - it would appear to be returning "garbage". All is not lost, make sure you have the correct driver installed (definitely NOT the one that Windows will have loaded). I'm not an ATI/AMD man, so I won't try to suggest a "better" driver set, but there are several folks around who are and will. Greatly appreciate your reply. Unfortunately I have the latest driver for the RX 5700, that aren't Beta. I've turned off the GPU as a resource for the SETI project for now. The card is very new as it was just released on 7/7 so maybe there are a few more bugs to be worked out either by AMD or BOINC. Regards. |

4-C, It seems there is a general openCL issue with the new 5700 series of cards with compute tasks validating, here is a related thread I have been watching over at Einstein@home. https://einsteinathome.org/content/all-things-navi-10 Hopefully fixed soon by AMD. |
