That's why you get your butt planted a day before the eclipse at your preferred location. And take your time packing up and hitting the road for the return home. The drive down was fine. Lots of people planned far enough in advance that they weren't all on the road at once, plus I did it at night. The problem was that everyone thought we could get home Monday night and back to our normal lives on Tuesday. I had an appointment Tuesday morning; if I'd made it for Wednesday instead, it would have delayed my new job training a whole week. The Eclipse was very cool and I'm happy I was there, the 360 degree sunset was something I did not expect. The traffic down I5 Sunday to Ore was bad, it should have been 4 hrs, it was 5 1/2. Then I came home after the event. 11 1/2 hrs, if there is a next time for me I will plan better. Sorry I missed you, we arrived in Corvallis on Sunday afternoon and walked around the town to try and pick the best spot. It turned out that the best spot was actually just outside our hotel. So we set up our chairs after breakfast and had a great unobstructed view. Beautiful clear skies, it was amazing. I would totally do it again. My husband too some good pics of the crescent effect of the cast shadows, I'll remind him to send me them so I can put them here. We didn't get great pics of the eclipse, but yours do it justice. Everyone else drove home up the I5, but we decided to head for the coast and spend a day there. It was a wise move, my friend was viewing the eclipse from just across the highway fro us, and it took her 12 hours to drive back to Vancouver! Reality Internet Personality |

This page http://www.eclipse2017.org/2017/overlap.htm shows the overlap of this eclipse with the one in 2024. The spot where I went will be in the path of totality again, but not right in the center. I imagine I'll go somewhere in Indiana next time, but who knows what my life will be like by then. https://www.greatamericaneclipse.com/april-8-2024/ The next one will go over some major cities: Dallas/Ft. Worth, Little Rock, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Montreal. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

The gentleman, Alan Lang who was setup besides me with full photographic rig posted some of his pics to his public Google Drive folder. I was waiting on his full totality corona shot. Thought I would just post the full link to Alan's folder. His Bailey's Beads and Diamond Ring shots are pretty good. Disappointed in the prominence shots though as slightly out of focus or camera mirror shake when taken. My Coronado PST solar scope was giving good prominence views before and after totality too. Nice shots. Some how my camera switched from bracket RAW images when I removed the filter. So my totality shots got overexposed. Next time, more cameras and better filter. |

Seems that some folks had their own plans for watching the eclipse. Sunscreen applied to their eyeballs. Yup, you read that right. Health professionals report cases where people put sunscreen on their eyeballs to watch eclipse. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Wow. I wonder when the gene pool got so polluted that the common sense gene got snipped out. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Hi Friends! There was a NASA HEAD (high energy astrophysics division) Meeting in Sun Valley Idaho, so Eric and I went there for some absolutely perfect eclipse enjoyment. Carlos, your pictures are great! |
