... Yes, it is. Here's one or two examples. (if you wan't sources I'll be happy to provide reputable ones): Freedom of the press. LGBTQ freedom. Freedom of religion. Checks and balances. Freedom from foreign influences. Voting freedom. (if you attack the process [without any evidence], you are questioning it's worth) Trust in your government. (how can I trust a person or persons who outright lie, with no regard for facts???) -again about trust in government: How can I trust a president who makes false allegations against people!? -again about trust in government: How can I trust a president who breaks all ethics guidelines? -again about trust in government: How can I trust a government that allows these ethics rules to be broken. even defend it??? Attacking other branches of government. This man undermines our whole system, questions and bullies judges. Where's the freedom???? Attacking bipartisan ideas or even agencies. Where's the freedom there?? Calling for a purge of leftists from government- I thought this was a 2 party system, based on the idea of freedom and the idea that elected officials are supposed to work FOR THE PEOPLE.. Where's the freedom in encouraging totalitarianism???? How HASN'T this administration threatened or lessened or even outright removed freedoms(rights)??? If you were a true American you'd be concerned. There is no hate-induced insanity here Guy, there are real concerns about our immediate and long term future. And I'm sorry if you can't see past your own partisanship and admit to the obvious dangers we (as a country) are facing under Trump and his administration. #resist |

... Yes. In the real world outside that weird US partisanship bubble you have going on, this isn't a controversial fact. Out here we understand how science works and are quite happy to state the obvious. Yes. Climate change was a real factor in the failure of the dam. Reality Internet Personality |

How can we keep believing in the RELIGION of liberalism when this is what it gets us? How can you put the blame on any group of politicians, when it has been a known problem for at least 40 years. Therefore it has been a problem facing all politicians of all parties. It was quite obvious the way benefits and pensions were first set up, they hadn't thought of the possibility that there could be a period of population boom followed by a period of population bust. The thinking was that there was always going to be population growth so that the population receiving pensions would be paid for by the larger younger working population. As can be seen by the numbers this didn't happen, and with the birth rate falling in developed countries, there needs to be a way of increasing the tax paying population. That's why the US and most of the EU needs immigrants at the moment. But in the long run, in about twenty years the problem will go away as us baby boomers will have mostly died out. But some of us did think and do something about it and are not totally reliant on pensions for an income during our latter years. |

How can we keep believing in the RELIGION of liberalism when this is what it gets us? Long ago, when I was just 30-odd years old, I (and one of my smart young colleagues) convinced my company (which is a statutory scientific research council in South Africa) to withdraw from the "government" pension fund that we contributed to, and establish its own defined contribution provident fund (in the United States, I believe that such retirement funds are known as 401(k) schemes). While this transferred the investment risk away from the state to the employee, it also ensured that the risk of belonging to a large, bankrupt pension fund was eliminated. It was almost a quarter of a century ago that I saw the writing on the wall for defined contribution pension funds, and I didn't need to be an actuary to work it out. (My subsequent involvement in the management of the fund that we established gave me a lot of knowledge about and insight into the retirement industry, but not once have I regretted the decision we made way back in 1994.) |

How can we keep believing in the RELIGION of liberalism when this is what it gets us? So when are you going to have a tax increase to fund social security? When are you going to make companies fully fund their pension plans or are you in favor or more style GM bailouts? Oh I know, you want to take social security and make it a 401(k) so you can charge fees until the poor people actually owe the government money at retirement age! Makes big profits for your oligarch masters! |

Why do you folks outside the US have the most complaints about that which isn't affecting you? Liberalism has been growing since the beginning of the 20th century. And to think it's no one's fault is liberal logic. And to think global climate change is destroying a dam in kalifornia... there's only one thing I can do over that BELIEF: HAHAHAHA! Good grief. It's like talking to someone in a cult. Reality Internet Personality |

First, bankrate.com has the wrong information, check the IRS website. Read carefully page 7. Note that the differences are tax fraud. And your posted link leads nowhere as does your logic and your usual arguments. Probably broke the IRS website with all those Middle class 35% ers paying their fair share............. along with the stupidity penalty. Here are other sites that basically state the same brackets as Bankrate. https://www.tax-brackets.org/federaltaxtable http://www.mydollarplan.com/tax-brackets/ http://dailysignal.com/2015/10/30/5-charts-to-explain-the-2016-irs-tax-brackets-and-other-changes/ Again if you make $413,000 a year and didn't plan financially to minimize your tax liability, I've got some prime land in Okefenokee Fla you might be interested in...................PT Barnum would LOVE you. No IMO we should pay as we go, not stop going but pay. You advocate stopping to meet that goal. |

Guy we have had only underfunded wars my entire adult life starting with Viet Nam. I don't say tax the rich I say tax all. I posit if the people paid the full price there would be more selective foreign excursions. O f course that would no longer be a driver of the debt. |

So I'm stupid now? I don't qualify for most of those exemptions, deductions and credits. It doesn't take much to pay 35% and not qualify for breaks and exemptions. All you need is to be single and have a middle-class job. I never said I was in the 35% tax bracket. I said I paid 35% tax. bobby is right, there's more taxes than just federal. |

I never said I was in the 35% tax bracket. I said I paid 35% tax. there's more taxes than just federal. As the context of the thread at that point was the Federal Tax return of President Trump that is the context with which I responded to your assertion average citizens paid 35% in taxes(income taxes being assumed). There is no doubt that some are paying 35% when including fuel, food, state and local sales tax and hidden taxes in most everything. And no there is no way to avoid much of that taxation (avoid not evade, big difference), without going totally off the grid. "Sour Grapes make a bitter Whine." <(0)> |
