@ Fawkesguy, I've now got the v8 app and app_info set up on all of my machines, but it seems that only my Windows machine is grabbing v8 WU's. Any idea what might be causing that? EDIT: Found a typo in my app_info. All good now. :-) |

Thank you for everyone involved in developing the new v8 app. I have not had time to see the results with my brains, just eyes. Will look tomorrow. I guess the -9's are a thing of the app being new and finding untraced bugs. The buildmasters will sort them out eventually. And I had a crash at my mahhine about an hour ago. There was a message saying an internal error happened. May be related to that. A quick look at the -9's tells me that different codepaths were chosen and still the result validated. Both determinded the same result. My quess is that it is a valid nonvalid. Just to clarify: it looks as though v7 CUDA work has run out, and v8 has yet to be generated (and no app. for it either yet) so everyone's GPUs are going to sit idle for a while when their v7 work is done... correct? No mine will not sit idle but will find their way to Einstein if necessary. |

@ Fawkesguy, Yes those typos can elude many. I wouldn't thank Richard too much, all he did was look at the changes I had made at Beta 30 minutes earlier, http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/forum_thread.php?id=2266&postid=55569#55569, and then decide it would be a good time for some ragging. Strange he didn't see the problem until I had posted it. After a couple days I now have Version 8 GPU Apps for ALL my machines. It was kinda hectic, but now it's over. Time for a little R&R. |

Actually, although it doesn't matter a jot and you have no way of knowing, that's factually incorrect. I posted here before 8:30 am, which those who know me will tell you is an early start for a weekend morning. I opened this message board first and replied here on my own account, and only reached the Beta site after I'd finished here. But it doesn't matter - water under the bridge. Between us, we got it sorted out in a way that got people crunching again, which is the main thing. |

Thanks to Richard for the 'SETI@Home Version 8 - app_info.xml files for upgrading Lunatics and anonymous platform (all OS)' thread. Will save a lot of people (me especially) a lot of hassles. Grant Darwin NT |

No mine will not sit idle but will find their way to Einstein if necessary. Thanks for the reply. The only way I can interpret this is that yes, as I was hoping otherwise: v7 CUDA work has been turned off without any v8 CUDA work to replace it. To confirm, my main machine with three 980s sitting idle finally picked up a solitary CUDA WU, and it was a resend inconclusive. So I went into Einstein's project prefs., disabled CPU and immediately got a full cache of GPU work. Can (almost) always rely on that project for work. |

@ Fawkesguy, Congrats! Running, awesome! R & R : as of Research and Rebuild? 7:30 min for a 2.70 ar with v8 (36.84 credits) and 2:51 min for a 2.59 ar with v7 (40.74 credits). I know. You have an advanced version of v7. Just wait. ...After a couple days I now have Version 8 GPU Apps for ALL my machines. It was kinda hectic, but now it's over. Time for a little R&R. Yep, sorta a let down from even my Stock CUDA v7 App, but, what's one to do without any v8 CUDA source files? It looks as though the Linux ATI App may be a few seconds faster, we'll just have to wait for some to validate. I need to get the development machine back to catalyst 14.6, this older driver is causing 100% CPU usage. All I did was install the AMD 2.8.1 SDK and now even reinstalling 14.6 doesn't give me the newer driver. What's up with that? Someone needs to get a couple AC units to Jason... |

I think the modular Mitsubishi would probably do the trick http://www.mitsubishielectric.com.au/residential-air-conditioners.html We need to start a "go fund me" page for him... |

So uh, no OpenCL CPU applications? ;-) I typed it correctly the first time around, CPU, central processing unit. I keep on waiting for a project to try and make an OpenCL CPU application that can make use of all cores of the CPU to run the work. A multi-threading application, but instead of the old mt, done in OpenCL. Very possible that the CPU applications here don't lend themselves to be capable of running the work on multiple cores at the same time. |

I downloaded all files, updated app_info.xml as instructed... and restarted Boinc. Started downloading v8 files, then crunching them. It chewed through the first 8 tasks in about 30 seconds apiece. I'm assuming that could be "normal" for a fast processor? The next tasks are starting off with an estimate of about 13½ hours apiece, but as my processor chews through them, after a few minutes the remaining time estimate drops by a few hours. Again, I'm hoping the fast processor is causing that drop. Gotta' love being able to run 16 cpu tasks concurrently. Now if we can just put those two 980ti gpus back to work again soon... ;) |
