Trickle of APs, 1 for each machine.... |

After the outage recovery, I saw they were briefly splitting AP's. Did I manage to snag any ?? Nope. I picked up a couple of resends before the outage. I haven't seen an AP in over 2 months on my newest system. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

...this shortage of AP work is because (most of) the Arecibo tapes being re-analyised have already had their APs split and done using the current AP application Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

I see 13se08abis currently being split but does not appear to be producing any data so it would appear we have already processed the tape. As I write it is up to number/channel (10) |

Only 270 AP's left out in the wild now. I do believe we are meant to be getting work from the GBT data I am just unsure when this will be |

It's been so long since I had a taste of an AP work unit, that I've forgotten what they taste like. The last two times that AP dropped immediately after the Tuesday shut down, I never had a chance to snag one. I don't buy computers, I build them!! |

I know the familiar experience myself. Seems like AP tasks were found in the long forgotten past of SETI. I wonder if Breakthrough Listen will ever create AP tasks. Maybe we can still hope for such from Green Bank or Parkes telescopes. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Eric has talked about do AP on the BLP data, but nothing has come of it yet, and I can't recall any being tested over on Beta. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

I would imagine a few people that are in-the-know would get a heads-up that it is coming soon, but it definitely would appear on Beta long before Main. But with the staff's workload as it is anyway, I doubt they have much time for coding the backend processes to be able to start doing beta testing. I think the DB is ready for it, but it would be everything else in the pipeline that needs some code added to it. It's easy to forget that there's a lot more to a new app than just the executables that appear on Beta--you have splitters, feeder, validator, assimilator, and db_purge that all need to be updated, and probably some of the PHP for the website. That's a lot of back-end work. But, it should all be roughly the same for AP as it was for MB, so at least that gives them a reference to copy and paste and make changes where needed. In general work seems to be in very short supply. As I write there are 85 here and 10 over on Beta |

I was pleasantly surprised to be rewarded with 4 AP CPU tasks yesterday before the outage today. First time running them on Numbskull, my Ryzen system. Took just about half the time to crunch compared to how they process on my FX systems. So instead of 8 hours to crunch, did them in 4 hours or so. Once again the superior AVX processing of the 1700X blows away the old FX processors even with a megahertz handicap of 400 Mhz. Elizabeth, I feel a big one coming on!! I just go 2 tasks 1 CPU & 1 GPU, I don't know if my olde heart can stand it. I also noticed that a GPU task slipped by me on 16 May and is awaiting validation. According to the server status page there are only 3 channels left, so I don't think I'll get any more this time around. But the hope for miracles never cease. I don't buy computers, I build them!! |

I check the server page about twice per day usually, and I always seem to miss the AP feeding frenzies. Last week, when there were only about 500 still remaining out in the field, I went to bed. Woke up in the morning, and there were 15,000 out in the field. I got zero because I wasn't sitting here to hammer the update button. Day or two later... it happened again. Drat.
