Just finished a machine for a friend, loaded Windows 7 same as his old machine......IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT!

Windows 10 is as frustrating and practically useless in the real world as Facebook.

Yep, I got a Facebook account a long time ago. Found out I hated it. I then tried to delete the account. I could NOT find a way without having to jump through 2.5 million hoops. I have it deactivated and set so that I do not get any email notifications from it. Facebook, to me, is nothing more than one giant interactive gossip column.

As for Winblows 10? My sig says it. :)

Similar story, quit using F'book 3 years ago after a friends hacked account lured me into nearly contracting a virus. But recently started using it again. I have reconnected with my birth siblings(adopted at birth) and all are women that keep in touch via F'book so I'm stuck with it for now out of convenience. I wouldn't use it if not for my 4 'new' sisters.

I hate windows 10!

WhY?

I wasted several days to turn off all WU drivers, as they have been coming without OpenCL support, which crashes Win10 when using SETi@home.

I am getting all Microsoft updates on my Windows 10 Home edition but they never touch the drivers I am getting from nVidia through Geforce. I regularly check MS updates on Control Panel, Maintenance, View Reliability History. My GTX 1050 Ti is working fine both on SETI@home and Einstein@home GPU tasks.

This may be a desired configuration to prevent GPU driver updates for those with Enterprise or Pro versions.

I had to do this on my work machine to prevent the iGPU drivers from being updated to ones that conflicted with the video driver my docking station uses.

Had I mentioned that I hate win 10. So I put my money where my mouth is. My win 10 machine is in the shop. I told the techie to scrub the C drive and if he couldn't get it clean to put in a new one, and install Win 7 Home Premium. I'm to old for this merd.

A suggestion.........Win 7 Professional has more features and can be finely configured to a greater extent than Home of any flavor......it's my choice of OS.

As a way out, find someone (NOT a sales person) to show you how Apple or Google Chrome or Linux systems compare.

There is already far too much hate and frustration in our world to add yet more negativity.

Look for something new and positive?

Good positive luck :-)

An excellent suggestion.

Hopefully you're not carrying too much legacy baggage ensconced in Windows programs. That is my reason devolving to Win 7. The two rigs I run SETI on are running 8.1 which I find acceptable but cumbersome. My phone is also 8.1, my Tablet is a Surface that was supposed to come loaded with 8.1 but has 10 instead and is the most infuriating device I use.

Also I have a Laptop loaded with Linux Ubuntu which is a very clean OS that I could come to love if I could only migrate certain programs there. I tried to put Win7 back on it with an Install disk but the Linus partition won't let me access and boot from the DVD drive without a code(which I either failed to note during installation or lost). Ideally I'd like to put a boot manager with both OS on that rig.

Google: Windows 10 patches put Windows 7 users in danger
If Microsoft is going to patch Windows 10, it should patch the same bugs in Windows 7, says Google's Project Zero.

Windows 7 and 8.1 are NOT obsolete and still receive the monthly M$ security patch updates.
Win XP & below receive NO M$ updates.

Looks like Microsoft is running low on cash. See that they are bumping the price to downgrade to Windows 7 and 8.1. See also that they are increasing the price to run Xeon processors with a new Windows 10 for Workstations product.

The patch today was massive. Tied up my system for an hour to download and install. Think they are trying to get systems ready for the Creators Fall Update next week.

Microsoft has no shame. One can only hope that it's greed will drive it to self destruction.

I got 2 Windows 10 updates in 2 days, one marked 09/2017 and the other 10/2017. I don't know if this is the Creators Fall update.
