You are entitled to your view about guns, and in particular the availability of assault rifles to the general public.
But I will state this once - In my view, all those civilians who hold, or lust after such weapons are nothing but fearful cowards. They are so afraid of their own shadow that they feel the impelling need to possess a weapon for no other reason than to polish and protect their own ego. This fully demonstrates a mental state that excludes them from owning such a weapon.

Well I agree that the law is stupid, But lets see how this plays out. Im betting that the federal government never got rid of the paper work for the background check. So they know who bought what.

Here in NY we have untill April 15th. Our Govemanure has said he will confiscate all Ar's that dont get registered.
If you bought any ammo or parts over the internet rest assured the NSA knows.

But whether that is actually an improvement remains to be seen, given that guns that fire on full auto are much harder to aim and eat through a shooters ammunition. I suppose it would be an interesting study to see whats more lethal, a regular M16 on full auto or a M16 that is only semi auto.

That's not entirely fair. I mean, sure, I'm not a big fan of the public owning this amount of firepower either, but there are more reasons than cowardice for owning one. There are those that like to hunt (but granted, they could use other, slower firing rifles as well). Then there those that just like to shoot guns at gun ranges, either for sport or just for kicks. I can understand that, shooting does seem like a lot of fun to me. Finally, you got people who lust after guns because they appreciate their aesthetic value (that would be me, I think guns look awesome).

In every case, it should be possible though to reduce the amount of certain types of weapons people have lying around at home to a minimum without actually reducing peoples capacity to enjoy the above mentioned three things.

From my readings and hands on expeirence. The recoil impules from full auto fire does result in some muzzle rise. That was why the one of the services had a 3 round burst instead of full automatic. However when you are ambushed and or setting up an ambush. You want maximum fire power to either get out of said ambush or eliminate return fire.
Any other time is a waste of ammunition. Im sure all of you have seen combat footage of G.I.'s in Viet Nam holding a rifle over a wall and have no clue where they are shooting and wasting 20 rounds hitting tree tops.
