I'm not trying to anger you or insult you. I'm just trying to educate. Thanks for The Edu. Tho, anniet has The Truth of 'it'. As she stated: Feral cats are a much more complex issue than stray and/or abandoned ones. Recent studies have shown that most, if not all domesticated cats actually retain their wild ancestry (or free spirit if you like) pretty much intact, and without human contact (between birth and about eight to ten weeks of age) they will simply stay the way they were born more often than not. That doesn't mean they can't be tamed or "rehabilitated into the home" for lack of a better term, or at least coaxed into having some form of contact with us, but ultimately that will be their choice, not ours. It's far from easy but very rewarding when it does happen, but for some, they will remain utterly miserable until their first opportunity to escape presents itself, and then they'll be gone. fO shO ' ' May we All have a METAMORPHOSIS. REASON. GOoD JUDGEMENT and LOVE and ORDER!!!!! |

Eric and I tried to trap feral cats once. We got one, had him fixed, and released him. The second thing we caught in our humane live-trap was a skunk. Sorry Sue, but we quit trapping after that! We managed to release the skunk without getting sprayed. It is a funny story that is best acted out rather than typed. If we are ever in your area of Texas, or if you ever visit the SF Bay Area, perhaps we can meet up and I will re-enact our skunk adventure for you. |

You will never solve the problem of feral cats and dogs. At least we don't eat them in the West. Not knowingly anyway. Sick :( |

I would like to see that. I will then share with you the story of how my former brother in law scared a skunk when he almost set himself on fire with a firework on 4th of July. My mom (and family) lived in Santa Clara for many years, right up until a couple of years ago when mom had to move to Oregon to be near my brother, and to live in an assisted living facility. The Santa Clara house was sold. Before Santa Clara (until 1961) we lived in San Francisco (a couple of blocks away from the Cow Palace). I and my three brothers were all born there. Let me know if you ever find yourself heading toward central Texas. ~Sue~ |

My Grandmother(Tot Spafford), Mother, Aunt and Uncle were all born in Rockwall Texas, after 1929 I think all 4 left Texas for California aboard the Super Chief. If I recall correctly, the Super Chief did not go through Texas. From Lamy NM, it went West to California, but it went North from Lamy and then East to Kansas City then North East from KC to Chicago. I remember riding it a couple of times from Lamy to KC. More likely it was the Sunset Limited that ran from Louisiana to California through Texas. BOINC WIKI |

Mom was a kid then, just graduated from Catholic High School with Her sister and Brother, their Mother was divorced, since their father deserted them and left Texas and the US for Canada, at least that's what I was told. My Grandmothers family had a relative who walked from Kentucky to Texas alongside a Conestoga wagon before Texas was even a Republic, much less a settled part of northern Mexico. I just found out some sad news, My Nephew Mike's Dog Thelma who I helped raise and take care of from when She was a pup, while My Nephew was driving a truck on the interstate(CA to NV and back), is dying of Cancer, Thelma is eating 3 to 4 times a day, Thelma's body is wasting away I'm told by My Niece Jamie since outside of when Thelma needs to go outside and to get up to eat She just sleeps, Jamies Siamese cat Annabell has been staying by Thelma's side and sleeping with Thelma, My Sister in law has been watching over Thelma since Thelma is nearly blind and deaf at about the age of 14-15yrs, of course the dog also has arthritis too, of which type I don't know, We are hoping Thelma will see 1 more Xmas or at least 1 more Thanksgiving, but that may not happen. Really sorry to hear that Vic. I am sure that they will do the kindest thing that can be done for the dog at all times. If Thelma is in pain, She doesn't show it, so they are just making sure She's comfortable. Thelma is part pit bull and golden retriever. So sorry to hear about Thelma Vic :( She's clearly very loved, and has obviously had such a positive impact on all your lives. I hope she is pain free and remains so for as long as possible. Let us know how she gets on. |
