BTW. If you see a thread of a troll, don't write in this thread.
Just let him write, don't care about.
Don't feed him.
He will die of starvation.

That is about the best advice there is for handling many types of posters.

But you post in my Waiting for Godot threads! :)

Perhaps a bit of an overhaul/review is required here, some thing that the seti
heads, seniors and moderators could under-take.

+1

One of the reviews and not by mods but the project admin should be: -

closing accounts of those posters who hold more than one account. The precedent has already been set on these boards by the project itself with the banishment of a regular and most helpful cruncher - that of Astro.

Since then we have crunchers belittling others for creating new accounts to get around the bans. Yet the crunchers doing the belittling hold several themselves.

A cleanup from the top down is needed. Hold more than one account, an instant twelve month holiday.

Set up a ban scale. the minimum being 90 days. 2/4 week ones are useless.

Some time ago it was implied that Nick and I are the same person.....

...damn, I'd better let Hollywood know as I'm now Mr Fantastic. Using a keyboard in London and my own 80 miles away at the same time.

Can that be put in the Guinness book of records?

Edit: - A timely reminder to all that if we don't get our act together, regardless of how many accounts you hold, they will be useless as there will be no forums to post to...

Take this on board and realise that the man is the only one holding them open, piss him off and it's good bye forum.

From this I see that some of you haven't yet got my point.

I do not object to our friend Intelligent Design posting his beliefs.

My point is, as gathered from all data available from the Legal, Education and Scientific Institutions that I have listed in other posts, that the subject "intelligent design" is NOT science. Therefore threads on this subject should not be on the Science (non-Seti) board.

How the mods, who now support the opinion that intelligent design is science have been fooled I have no idea.

As the Mods are working, voluntarily, on behalf of Seti@Home, and therefore must be assumed to be working under their guidelines. I find it goes against my principles to be associated with such bodies and therefore am cutting my ties with the project.

I will observe for a short period how things develop and will re-consider my position if those threads are moved out of a science board, but will also require an explanation why this situation has been allowed to develop.

BTW. If you see a thread of a troll, don't write in this thread.

I don't mind feeding him, it's quite good fun watching himself digging himself in further and further, contradicting himself, which unfortunately leads to him loosing it and having to take a vacation. It sometimes gets boring when he's away.

more reason to stay WK. Come on man, we've all had incidents like this that frustrates us. Have a kitkat and come back refreshed.

you're too good a poster to just walk away. You've made your views known and their valid ones. Point made.

Come back WinterKnight. I moved the ID threads to politics. I was trying to give ID a chance to prove his point and he failed. I had to try because it seemed fair.

Nice sentiment but you've just made the situation worse by openly discussing moderator actions. Many have been banned in the past for just that.

It's time now for consistency and all actions to be taken and not discussed openly. We as crunchers have to accept that.

Why don't you object to the Anunnaki thread?

You can discuss moderator actions but not specific actions. That was what we were told when I was a mod. I think this instance is to specific.

Back in the cafe arhives if a poster even mentioned the word moderation it was a ban. Im glad it has eased up from that extent.

I've been told directly by "Fred" that multiple accts are allowed by the same people as long as those accts aren't causing problems.

No disagreement here-love it actually. These 2/4 week bans just don't do anything effective except to postpone the eventual next ban.

I believe Fred has ways of checking IP's of posters--maybe an auto-check is needed?

I would also suggest a standardized way of addressing issues by the mods be instituted. There's a significant amount of inconsistency in how issues are handled. Some mods deal with people directly behind the scenes--some seem to almost antagonize them publically while trying to appear like they are addressing the issue-however no specifics mentioned here

Blurf, auto-IP detecting? That'd be easy to get around, wouldn't it? One for a computer at home and one for a computer at work.

Some user ISP accounts can have 5 IP addresses, 8 if static.

On another forum we did an investigation into using IP addresses to identify users, and found it was not a practical solution. Quite a number of ISPs allocate addresses from a pool on a random basis, and time out long term connected users, so they have to reconnect and each time they reconnect they get a different address from the pool.

You can get lots of free proxy services and a few free VPN services.
Evenso the Tor project becomes very popular.
You cant trace the location.
