That was just for "disclaimer" purposes. I can't remove it myself so I've put in a request for Google to remove it. But then again I dont know of any kids who click the "I'm NOT 18" link. :)

I agree. Let PQ find the earthlike planets first then have SETI scan those star systems. I think its much more efficient than randomly scanning the sky.

Now it looks more like they plan on Alpha testing this summer.

Yes, Dan, me too...! :)
(Just think about the possibilities: with alien babes who have different cromosomes than us, sex will have no serious consequences...)

Thanks. (But maybe it should be applied on this thread instead, huh?) LOL!

Except, maybe, even more horrible diseases than we have now .....or....females who kill the males after mating ......or.......I shudder to think. :( ;)

Be lucky

I was thinking of no kids, but you're right... Besides, ET or not, babes have to be attractive before I will even think about anything else... ;)

We must avoid the alien praying mantis species at all costs.

Astronomers discover a planet-sized star

March 11, 2005

PLANET QUEST -- An international team of astronomers searching for new planets has discovered something unexpected - a star only slightly larger than the planet Jupiter.

The new star, part of a binary system, was discovered using the "transit" method, which measures the slight dip in a star's brightness that occurs when a smaller object passes in front of it. The tiny star, named OGLE-TR-122, decreases the light reaching the Earth from its larger companion by 1.5 percent during each orbit.

Astronomers said the future planet searches that use the "transit" method will have to be careful to distinguish between stellar imposters such as OGLE-TR-122 and true planets.

The new star is 96 times heavier than planet Jupiter, but only 16% larger. Furthermore, it is smaller than many of the 146 extrasolar planets that have been discovered thus far.

The recent observations also detected seven other small stars with masses below one-third the mass of the Sun, indicating that such stars are not rare, according to a European Southern Observatory (ESO).

The observations were carried out using the ESO's Very Large Telescope in Chile.

As I remember it, both Burbank and Burroughs used the same field for their "home field" during the football season. Schedules were adjusted so that when one team was "home", the other team played their game away.

Bottom line - both teams were thoroughly used to the field and therefore, any "advantage" of one school over the other was of a "psychological nature". The schools even swapped sides from year to year -- of course, I'm talking of conditions 40+ years ago ....

I'm not sure that someone hasn't already brought this to the board's attention:

www.planetquest.org

This is a developing Distributed Computing project that will analyze data to help detect planets orbiting other stars than our own. Take a look at the website - it's very well done.

This project will do great things for astronomy, not only through research but in increasing public interest and involvement. If you can afford to donate, it's tax deductable, and it looks like it will be a great project.
