I have installed this new dev version and it has given me an error. When I start it says Unrecognized tag in cc_config.xml zero debts Anyone have the same problem or know what this is. There is no tag as of yet that says zero debts Thanks Michael Miles |

Everyone with a cc_config.xml file made by a former BOINC 6.13 or 7.0, or who hand-made one with all the options in the default off position, will have this problem. When you add a program to the Preferences->Exclusive applications list, this gets written into the cc_config.xml file and with that, it adds all of the client configuration tags. In 7.0.27 <zero_debts> was deprecated, as were <std_debug> and <debt_debug> since BOINC 7 doesn't use debts anymore. And as such each time you start BOINC, it reads the cc_config.xml file, comes across that tag and will throw the warning that it doesn't know this one. It'll still use the other settings in the file. You can hand-edit the cc_config.xml file and remove the offending line. |

Yes. Will it be effective though for people to understand / realize and then hand-edit? We'll just have to wait and see............ If the board gets swamped with "WTH?" inquiries on this subject, a Sticky thread with proper instructions may be needed. By the way, I just found that when you use the exclusive applications tool in BOINC 7.0.27 to add a new program to the list, that it will take out the <std_dbug/> and <zero_debts/> lines automatically. No need to hand-edit the cc_config.xml file. |

No need to hand-edit the cc_config.xml file. That's a handy tool for getting an up-to-date list of available tags. Why are they all in alphabetical order, except <notice_debug> down the bottom? |

Why are they all in alphabetical order, except <notice_debug> down the bottom? A later add-on? I don't know. All I know is that it's taken years for the list in the Wiki to be alphabetized, and only after I (i think) did so. Maybe the dev at hand took the hint. ;-) |

Why are they all in alphabetical order, except <notice_debug> down the bottom? Well, the <suspend_debug> flag that was added for the first time in v7.0.27 (because David couldn't reproduce my report of the client fetching work in the middle of the night while networking was suspended) appears in its proper place in the alphabetic list. That's the latest add-on that I know of. |

BOINCtasks allows editing of the cc_config file. It adds all tags including zero_debts. From memory BOINCview also adds all tags, although it dates back to 2006 so doesn't know any of the newer ones. I will mention it to Fred so he can look at removing them from BOINCtasks and adding the new one. BOINC blog |

BoincView adds tags based on a configuration file 'list_config.xml' (or a translation 'list_config_de.xml'), so it would be possible to bring that part of it, at least, up to current standards. Having said that, and as a long-term BoincView user, I still find it easier to edit cc_config.xml by hand when I want access to a particular debug log. |

Yes I must admit I still use BOINCview from time to time, even with 7.0.27 it can handle most of the stuff. Some things don't work of course, but its proved remarkably resilient since 2006. I have posted a forum topic in the BT forum for Fred and pointed him to this message thread. BOINC blog |

If you are on BOINC 6 you might want to use <zero_debts/> so unless it can be taken out of the list for BOINC 7 instances only, having a red line come up strikes me as the lesser inconvenience. And I use the BOINCtasks cc_config editor extensively - much faster than editing cc_config itself :D (and I don't like to keep work_fetch_debug running but I do like to know what's going on now and again) btw a tag or two wasn't picked up from the exsisting cc_config on the first use. [looking up - <start_delay>18</start_delay> was missed ] the others were all parsed. I'm not the Pope. I don't speak Ex Cathedra! |
