Some people are down on the beach here in California and the water has been sucked out, they shouldn't be there, As They could die, If the water is deep enough...

The surge is coming in, In Ventura...

The US Navy is being mobilized and some ships are heading towards Japan and the Mariannas..

Some areas are seeing a set of waves near 7' tall.

There are still Tsunami warnings active for the West Coast of Vancouver Island.

Yes, Cresent City had waves 6.5' in height and there are reports of Damage, Moro Bay has had wave 6' tall, This won't be over until sometime after noon time locally. There are possibly 88,000 people missing in Japan, Deaths are still unknown.

Now their saying since these wave come in groups, They could get taller.

Some Boats are sunk and some have come loose from their moorings where they were tied up to the dock.

At 1025 am PST, CNBC (Business News) just broke into it's coverage of President Obama's press conference to report a new Mag 6.6 quake off Japan, with a new batch of tsunamis.

This ain't over, yet.

Go to the USGS site, it shows a frightening picture. Deaths can reach thousands, says Italian TV.

I saw it Tullio. They showed it on one of the newscast.
The extreme effects covered the entire Pacific Rim/Rim of Fire area.

Times like this we realize how nearly defenseless we are against the forces of nature.

Yep and how stupid some people who go to the shore are, Cause they want to see the waves coming in, Here the sets won't be too terrible, But in areas more in line from Japan, Like Chile, Chile will get a lot taller waves.

One place just now the sea has pulled back by 15'-20', I think that was near Santa Monica. People on the Jetty should get out, Now and fast...

In Japan the Tsunami waves traveled as fast as a 747 or about 500mph...

Of course, The News is saying even 1' of water is dangerous as It's the current, As It can pull one off of their feet.

Makes you realise how lucky we are here in the middle of a Tectonic plate in a relatively ( I say relatively) stable non-earthquake type area.
It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues

This is crazy. Their saying ships should head out to deep water to ride out any of the tsunami waves as It's not just one wave.

Here the quake shows as an 8.9, In Japan the Quake is a Magnitude 8.4, They use a different scale.

Heading to deep water for a ship makes perfect sense. In deep water the waves will only be a couple of feet.

Agreed, The news mentioned 3 miles out as that was where the Navy and I'd assume that would apply to any Coast Guard and NOAA Ships too...

Later on Tokyo was hit by a 6.6 quake, Which is not nearly as bad as that 8.9 Monster.

One of Japans Nuclear reactors had a coolant problem cause of the quake to which the US Navy supplied some needed coolant, It seems that Japan has a lot to do and more than a few to mourn.

It is not as bad as it sounds. The power to the coolant pumps is being supplied entirely by batteries, and after those have run out, the reactor will get hot which will increase the steam pressure. To relieve the steam pressure there will be some controlled release of slightly radioactive steam. If it goes the same way as Three Mile Island, the background radiation will still not be as high at its worst as it is every day in Denver - just because of the altitude.

As U.S. damage measured, emergency declared in California counties

(CNN) -- California Gov. Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency Friday in four coastal counties, saying the ocean surge from tsunami waves spawned by an earthquake near Japan is imperiling infrastructure and public safety.

Del Norte, Humboldt, San Mateo and Santa Cruz Counties are facing an emergency situation, as the water surge has inundated California beaches, ports and harbors and prompted the opening of emergency shelters, the governor said in his proclamation.

Meanwhile, in northern California's Del Norte County, a 25-year-old man was declared dead Friday afternoon after being swept out to sea off a beach while trying to photograph a tsunami launched by the massive earthquake near Japan, according to a Del Norte County, California, official.

Tier 3 defense has failed. Let's hope tier 2 (the vessel) may resist. This reactor was built in 1971.
