Message 1004243 - Posted: 14 Jun 2010, 23:27:57 UTC - in response to Message 1004234.

Hmm, well that computer does not have any Nvidia GPU, and hence only crunch MB and AP.

Do you mean that the error messages in question means that despite not having any Nvidia card, thereby not running CUDA and not having those app_classes in my app_info, the server still offers to send CUDA? And when it can't send what I do not want or can't crunch, it throws a fit with the error message "Your app_info.xml file doesn't have a usable version of SETI@home Enhanced."

Sten-Arne

No, the server never "offers to send" work. Your computer asks for work: it may ask for work for its CPU, or it may ask for work for a GPU (not in your case, since you don't have one), or it may ask for both (again, not you).

Quite why the server is sending the message "Your app_info.xml file doesn't have a usable version of SETI@home Enhanced.", to hosts where this is patently untrue, is still a mystery. What is clear is that it's unintentional, it's a mistake, and it should be disregarded.

Message 1004250 - Posted: 14 Jun 2010, 23:47:14 UTC - in response to Message 1004246.

Technically, in that case the computer would ask for work for a "NVidia GPU". It would also tell the server some technical details about the rard(s) it has available. It's up to the server to say, "well, if you've got that card, with that much memory, and that software version, you can do cuda23" - or cuda_fermi, or just plain cuda.

It's because that decision making is done on the server, that it was the server which needed updating when the problem was spotted.

Previously, the computer said "I've got a Fermi, send me what you've got", and the server said "Here are the parts for a cuda23, they should fit" - but they didn't. We could go into analogies about gas boilers, or Fords/Ferraris, here, but I'm not going to - too late at night, I'll be crashing out soon.

It would be nice if it would work like 100 WUs/app. Then BOINC would DL 200 MB WUs/day (100x CPU & 100x GPU).
BUT my BOINC get only 100 WUs/host.

Message 1004256 - Posted: 14 Jun 2010, 23:56:28 UTC - in response to Message 1004235.

The quota should be per app version, 100 for CPU Astropulse_v505, 100 for CPU Seti_enhanced, 100 for Cuda_Fermi, 100 for Cuda32, 100 for Cuda, 100 for ATI Astropulse_v505, etc.

Please advise where you received this info from. Did it come from SETI??

Are the SETI servers then going to keep track of the VLAR work and assign those wu only to the cpu's? So then we can stop using the rescheduler!

Did you look at my Beta link that i've posted?, when i was doing Stock Cuda GPU work at Beta, when i used up my Cuda32 quota, i was sent Cuda work instead,
now Seti Main has some of the Server upgrades, different people have posted that they've had Stock Cuda23 and Cuda work sent to them, and you don't normally get Cuda work unless you downgrade your drivers,
there's people taking out their app_info, then managing to get stock work,
and Sten-Arne getting an Astropulse task then a bit later getting SETI@home Message from server: (reached daily quota of 98 tasks), eithier he had already reached his quota, or it's a different quota,

Now prove there aren't separate quota's

Try putting in a CPU app_info section and see if you get any CPU work, then rebrand to GPU,

I crunch CPU & GPU. (Since the new quota I must)
I have AK v8 as 603 and stock 6.09 as 608_cuda* in my app_info.xml file.

And BOINC get max. ~ 100 WUs/day/host.

If I would abort_(human)/kill_(automatically) VLAR CUDA WUs, I guess very soon my PC (CPU & GPU) would idle very quickly because of damaged quota. This new quota is very well for to prescribe the member what he must do (where to crunch/what he must do with VLAR WUs).

@ Sutaru, I don't know If You are using a New fermi video card or not, But just in case, If You are, Then You should read this thread here and stop using 6.08 and 6.09 as both 6.08 and 6.09 are not Fermi compatible as both Richard Haselgrove and I know, As 6.10(files can be found here if You want or You can go without an app info file and they should be downloaded to Your PC, But If You use an optimized cpu app, download the 4 files here and bring up Your existing app info file and copy the app info additions on the page into Notepad only and save) is the Fermi app for Seti and You should be running that from now on for Fermi gpus.

Message 1004283 - Posted: 15 Jun 2010, 0:55:32 UTC

All day long I have been running with an app_info configured for AP (505), Seti CPU (603) and Seti Cuda (608). Two of my computers have been running AP for several days on the CPU's. Today they downloaded Seti Cuda (608). When the AP ran out I rescheduled some of the 608 to 603. Now all the CUDA work is gone and only have AP working. One quad computer is crunching on it's last AP wu, requesting work but not receiving it.

I added a section for Seti Cuda23 (609) to the app_info. Made this change on 2 computers. Been running now 1 hour, requesting work for CPU and GPU but nothing has downloaded.

I therefore can't confirm that there is a limit of 100 wu per app in the app_info. If there was they should have downloaded 100 cuda23 (609) wu.

I don't know of this is of any "help" in the understanding the current BOINC/SETI situation or if it's just noise ... please ignore it if it's noise ...

I an running stock seti@home on Boinc V6.10.56

On one computer I get this ... (no comment necessary unless it's really wrong)

6/14/2010 6:39:05 PM Processor: 2 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz [Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 9]

6/14/2010 6:39:05 PM Memory: 2.50 GB physical, 4.35 GB virtual

6/14/2010 6:39:05 PM NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce 9500 GT (driver version 19562, CUDA version 3000, compute capability 1.1, 1024MB, 109 GFLOPS peak)
6/14/2010 6:39:05 PM NVIDIA GPU 1: GeForce 8400 GS (driver version 19562, CUDA version 3000, compute capability 1.1, 512MB, 29 GFLOPS peak)

It Downloaded

SETI@Home SETI@Home Enhanced 6.03 ... ( 18 of 'em)
SETI@Home SETI@Home Enhanced 6.09 (CUDA23) ... (105 of 'em)
SETI@Home SETI@Home Enhanced 6.08 (CUDA) ... (116 of 'em)

and getting messages like:

6/14/2010 8:51:34 PM SETI@home Requesting new tasks for GPU

6/14/2010 8:51:36 PM SETI@home Message from server: (reached daily quota of 100 tasks)

The other computer is running Lunatics opt app for a core I7 with only an ATI card and it gets:

(gag .. I can't copy it ...)

... your ...xml ... does note have a usable version of seti@home enhanced
... reached limit of 100

it is ONLY RUNNING ON THE CPU so no GPU stuff should be at work here (yes??)

If this helps in the diagnosis good ... else please ignore it ...

I read this somewhere, but I should mention it again, because I made a mistake. I had drained my cache, and decided to experiment. I detached and reattached. It went well, and I started downloading units. I burned through my GPU units very quickly, and without thinking, tried to use the rescheduler to transfer CPU units to the GPU's. It looked like it worked, but most of my cache disapeared. Oops! That was when I remembered I had read about it somewhere.

Lesson learned,

Steve

I knew that I'll lose all my WUs & results & Cr. if I detach/attach. I used this upper phrase, because all people know this.
I know that I need to UL and report first, before I do this. But how if the UL server is not available? And no, I have no backup. I wouldn't know how to do it, I made this in past and didn't worked for me.

So I decided to do this, although I knew what I'll lose everything

I'm sorry, but this is plain foolish and is a waste of the project's limited resources. To detach, reset or plain mess up your cache through ignorance - (ie, as a pure mistake) is one thing - and we have all probably done something like this during our contribution to this project, but to do it intentionally is vandalism - pure and simple. Your computer and your electric bill are nobody's business but yours, but your action has squandered the bandwidth and server resources necessary to distribute the tasks to you. Your action is totally indefensible. If the upload server is not available, WAIT. If the download server is not available, WAIT. Are these concepts so difficult to grasp (those are rhetorical questions, no answers are required)?

Sometimes I have a wrong app_info.xml, sometimes there is no job for me.
I see that in the server status page SETI has "Results ready to send 324,302" and I see traffic in the newcricket/grapher so I think that SETI is not sending work to the optimized apps.
Am I wrong?

You're right. I detached and reset project removed all optimized apps. I got work instantly, no error messages.

Re-installed optimized apps and stopped getting work and started error messages instantly.

I'm gonna let my cache run dry, remove optimized apps and then download a 10 day cache and re-install them.
