You'll get this done to the very best standard and come back bigger and badder than ever!

All the very best to you Mark. Just make sure there is some way we shall know what is happening. These days it's a quick and easy procedure. There may be some discomfort but that is very easily controlled and will very quickly pass.

ET will be keeping an eye on you!

Mark, I've spoken to you privately before when we were discussing an 'irritating problem'...

Get your eyes done as soon as you can. Again, I have the benefit of the National Heatlh Service here in the UK, but I'd get them done privately if I had to.

I have the prospect of that in the future, Ekky has already mentioned diabetic retinopathy, and that is what I face too. My eyesight is ok at the moment, but I know it is deteriorating slowly.

If I'm honest, it scares me sh**less. The prospect of not being able to see scares me more than anything.

I value your input on these forums, even if you are brutally honest at times, and I would count you as a friend, I'm sure I'm not the only one who would miss you on here.

If it were me, and I believe I'm right that you have 8 machines crunching, I would shut down 6 and just leave 2 crunching. If things are that bad, sell the crunchers too. You can always build new ones later. I'd give up the cigs right now too, and take the benefit of the extra cash/extra health that would inject as well. Dena's right, unplug everything that you don't use on a day to day basis, even down to mobile phone chargers. They use electricity just being plugged in, which I'm sure you already know.

I've given up nearly everything with sugar in it, and I still can't get my sugar levels down, so if they put me onto insulin I lose my job as well, as they won't let me drive a heavy goods vehicle if I'm on it.

Your health is far more important than crunching, but you can still look after the kitties, and still make a contribution here. When it's done and you are getting back to normal, then up the crunching again if that's what you want.

This time, the most important thing is you.

Sorry for waffling on...

regards Gizbar.

My boyfriend had problems with his eye a few years ago. His retina started to detach. They saved the eye by lasering it back on.

He then had ocular implants and paid extra for the good ones. The surgery he had also caused cataracts which were removed.

The cataract surgery was over quickly and he was much recovered by the next day.

Before all this happened he had to wear big thick nerd bottle glasses. Now he has better than 20/20 vision and doesn't have to wear glasses any more.

He is very happy he had the surgery done. Your eyes are so important and money comes and goes. In a few years you won't remember the money you spent, you will just remember how you saved your sight.

Waffle on, my friend......

I am sooooooo scared. Not about the procedure itself, but about making the right choices.

Like......
Uhh....you wanna 965 implant, or just the 920?
Wanna see again, or just a little bit better?

Do you have insurance, or are you an illegal?

Sorry to interject THAT bit.

Anyway....I don't know if I will ever see straight again.

If I hadn't wasted all my past funds on this Seti quest, I guess the answer would be a bit more simple.

Well.......in my world, they were not wasted.

Mark,

Sorry to hear about your recent problems.

Please ask your eye doctor if there are any foundations or any medical groups that can assist you financially for the procedure. You only need to apply and there are many foundations.

I get financial assistance from a foundation which helps to pay for my infusions for arthritis. And this is an ongoing monthly treatment.

This application was the first time in my life that I asked for financial help and I was somewhat reluctant to apply. Now I'm happy that I did.

Your friend

I understand where you are coming from. My financial situation would be much better if I could learn not to spend all my spare cash on computers. It's not wasted cash - it's what you wanted (still want) to do. You can't spend every minute worrying if you'd put some money away earlier things might be better. I'm trying to be a bit wiser, but it doesn't seem to be working so far...

Spend a bit more time on it before you make the decision. You've lived with this for long enough already. Get the eye doc to explain the options again if you need to. Will the better (read - more expensive) implant make a worthwhile difference? If you get the cheaper one, but still have to get a glasses scrip, would that be outweighed by the benefits of getting the more expensive one?

I know how it works over there. My ex-mother in law had gallstones while she was out there on holiday and it cost over 30,000 dollars to sort out. The insurance company fought like buggery not to pay out, but in the end had to.

Whichever one you have done, I'm sure it will improve your eyesight, but at the moment, I don't know enough to help you make the choice.

Sorry for my ignorance, I'm sure this will all come to me when my eyes go.

regards, Giz.

As someone who has worn big thick nerdy bottle bottom glasses since 1966, I would just like to point out that they make one look intelligent, and distinguished. Especially when combined with a beard and moustache.

The fact that I can actually see things now is just a bonus. 8<)>

And concerning cataract surgery - my dog had it several years ago, and has never complained.

I would have replied earier, but this was a busy day. I am very sorry to hear of your situation Mark. I don't have much to offer, except that your eyes are very important, and shouldn't be left untreated. When I was about 4 or 5 years old, I had one of those dart guns that shot darts with suction cups on them. My parents thought I would hurt myself, so they took away the darts. I tried a pencil, and it worked OK for a few shots. Then I loaded it so the eraser end was sticling out, and looked at it. It went off, and I was in the hospital for a while with both eyes taped up. I was lucky it was only the eraser end. That is no way near as bad as you, Fred J Verster, and others have gone through, and I recovered except I am very near sighted. My thoughts are with you, and I hope you are able to get your eyes fixed. We all together will find ET for you, and send you his email address.

Seems strange that ocular implants would cause cataracts, since ocular implants
are artificial lenses replaced due to clouding of the original lens. What did he pay extra for?

..

I think it was the laser surgery that caused the cataracts. I'd have to get him to tell the story to tell it right.

All I know is that he has little stitch marks on his eyeball and doesn't need to wear glasses any more.

The extra money was for the better type of lens.

I'm right there with you on that one Bill! I have worn glasses all my life and I think they lend me a scholarly look. (And I too sport a beard and mustache! I am, after all, a middle-aged woman of Italian extraction...)

Hey Mark.... Sorry to be a bit tardy in posting, but FWIW, my Mom had cataract surgery in both eyes when she was 75. She had been told for a couple years that it was a case of having the surgery or to have her eyesight continue to deteriorate. Mom has never been one to go to doctors much less have any major procedure done. Well, she finally gave in and had the surgery. It went amazingly well, it was done as outpatient at the local horsepistol, and took a little over 2 hours. The final results were fantastic.
She was actually reading newspaper articles without her glasses on following the surgery. She's now 92, and Alzheimer's is taking a heavy toll, but her vision is still surprisingly good.
So there's one for the "plus side" for ya.

Crow........you must know by now that you are one of my dearest friends.
In the most sincere sense of the word. You ask nothing of me, but have given me so much.

It is helpful that so many of you have come forward.

For a man of 53 years, I am so like a child sometimes. Scared and helpless, or so it seems. Why is it so? I dunno.
I am a man of dreams...and when they don't go as planned, it all falls apart on me. So, losing my sight...a basic thing, drops me to my knees.

I love you all here soooooooooooo much.
You have shared my best highs and my darkest hours.
What more could I ask?

The kitties.....(that's me) wish to thank you all for your support when I need it most. When I have to hang my head and cry........this is where I come.

Because I have so many here that will listen to my sobs.

And dry my tears.

Meow.

Ok, this is getting beyond a joke. This is dragging out like Days of our Lives.

So you need surgery. You can afford it but refuse to because you want to keep your computers for accumulating a fictional ego status for you.

By the fictional Jesus, get a grip on yourself, and reality, + the pshycological help needed to fix your addiction.

If your eyesight is not that important, by all means keep posting continuosly to these boards and go blind in peace.

Otherwise, stop attention seeking and get done what is needed. Sympathy only stretches so far, and it's gone beyond that limit now.

You have no bigger problems than anyone else...except the fact that you won't deal with yours.

Strike a deal with your doctor... have them bill for a basic replacement and just pay the difference in price for the upgraded one. It's a gray area here, but I had to do that with a dentist in order to get insurance to pay for a composite filling. Typically, insurance companies will not make "deals" like this.

This is exactly the kind of BS that the Obama health care bill DID NOT address.

I also agree with Uli, ET will wait. Crunching can take a year off while you save money for your eyes. Without eyes, it will be hard to manage all the machines anyway. So, your priorities should be clear at this point.

Make your home more energy efficient while you're at it. Hot water heater blanket, pipe insulation, seal leaky windows/doors, etc.

And most importantly, get a SECOND OPINION (and cash price) from another qualified surgeon.
