I've just had the worst experience with them. Just don't touch them. Their support is just pathetic.

I've tried for a whole 6 hours to get one of their games to work. Re-installed about 5 times - and I still get this crap about product keys and licensing. What a waste of $48.

I'm not ranting here, I'm just exhausted and warning you all. Gosh I'm tired.

Does EA even make original games anymore? Usually they are just involved with marketing and distribution, even if their logo comes up first.

I can't even remember the last time I played a game developed in-house by EA.
Burnout Paradise is developed by Criterion, Spore & Sims are developed by Maxis...

This is most likely irrelevant to the issue at hand, but some time ago I actually did a paid service call to help someone enter a license key. It wasn't a game, but rather an accounting related app. Their whole problem was that zero (0) and O aren't the same, and in this case upper/lower case mattered. Needless to say I didn't go back to them to have my taxes done. But in fairness, some of the licensing/key hoops that one has to jump through anymore are more than a little frustrating.

Sigh.

Steven: Hi, my name is Steven. How may I help you?
: Hi Steven... this is the 4th time I've been here today regarding a license key error when trying to connect the paradise city servers in burnout paradise. I was told by Kieth that I would be elevated to senior level... could I please be escelated to senior management?
Steven: I would like to inform you that as if your issue is being already escalated, please wait for 24 to 48 hours while our senior level assist you regarding your issue.
Steven: Ok.
Steven: Sorry for the inconvenience that you are facing.
: i have been told the only correct way to fix this issue is for your team to manually link my license key to my EA account.
: is that possible for you to do???
Steven: Sorry but No.
: why not?
: Please, I've re-installed the game 6 times!
: nothing is working.
Steven: Ok.
Steven: I would request you to please wait while our senior level assist you regarding an appropriate resolution of your issue.
Steven: OK.
: how long will this take??? others on the EA forums have reported that your team has linked license keys to ea accounts.
: the problem here is on YOUR side. Not mine. I now know that for fact.
Steven: I would request you to please wait for 24 to 48 hours.
: Why does it take 24 to 48 hours to escalate something that can possibly be solved in 20 minutes???
: I paid money for this game... all I want is to play online - this can be fixed by associating my license key to EA account.
Steven: Sorry but as being there so much of issues, it usually takes time.
I really apologize for that.
: Okay. Can I be guaranteed a response by EA senior management? Is this a known issue?
Steven: No, this not a known issue.
Steven: Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts support today.
: Then why is there a whole thread dedicated to this problem?
Steven: Sorry for the inconvenience that you are facing.
: This is exactly my problem! This is in your forums! All I want is for someone to associate my license key to my EA account!
Steven: I would request you to please wait.
: Okay. Can you please get your supervisor on here?
: I paid money for this game, I expect to be able to play it fully.
Steven: Ok.
Steven: As your issue has been already escalated, I would request you to please wait for 24 to 48 hours while our senior level assist.
: Will I get a reply? How will you contact me?
Steven: I would like to inform you that you will be assisted.
Steven: Ok.
: So, you can't guarantee me a reply???
: Look, can you please get your supervisor over here? I've been here 4 times today!
Steven: Sorry but I would like to inform you that there is no supervisor available right now.
: Do you have a phone number I can contact???
Steven: Yes.
: What would it be? Is it toll free? I'm in New Zealand.
Steven: If you want to contact us by calling then you can call 650-628-1001, this service is available between 8 AM PST till 5 PM PST. If there is anything else we can help you with, please let us know.
Steven: Ok.
: Look, fine, I'm not getting anywhere with this. If I don't get a reply within 48 hours, I'll be back asking why.
Steven: Sure.
Steven: I really apologize for the inconvenience that you are facing.
: Thanks anyway.
You have disconnected.

Gosh, it's easier just to torrent the damn thing for free, isn't it!

Oh I ought to know, I had an Atari 400 w/48K ram and there were keys and such to enter, Some were part of the chipsets symbols in a manual for the game and those symbols were Atari specific. COMPUTE used a lot of them when typing a program from the magazine to the computer such as Caves of ICE which I'd typed in years ago. Or that Antic Magazine used Here (Attack on the Death Star).

Reads like a rant.

How can someone who lives in such a beautiful country be such a rant and raver. Almost every thread and post from you is a rant and rave.

If you were posting from a bullet strewn hovel in Somalia, one could understand.

I just download most of my games off of Steam, then all the license keys are already included and can be copied and pasted.

So, how do you know if you like them before you buy them?

I used to, Command a Conquer and all that strategy stuff like Dungeon Keeper, Age Of Empires, Stronghold. Love those games and yes, mostly got into them because of reviews. There's always a miss, some of the AOE were not good, previously the Dungeon Keeper II was a total flop. But you can tell I'm not into current games, don't really do it now any more.

At one time I used to play command and conquer, cannon fodder too, But I went to XP x64 and those games suddenly didn't work anymore, I asked and the publisher said that they don't support XP x64, So Why buy their dumb games?

Still won't run in a 64bit OS, EA doesn't support any 64bit OS still, I looked on their C&C website and I saw mention of Vista(In compatibility mode) and XP(Service Pack 2/3), But no mention of Win 7 or any 64 bit OS.
