We do not have raccoons in Norway. A pitty I say, since they are very cute ;-) I believe that may just be a matter of time... If memory of an article I read last year serves me, raccoons were imported into Germany during the second world war in what turned out to be an unsuccessful experiment in the fur business. A population of raccoons either escaped or were set free after the war and raccoons have currently become quite a nuisance in some parts of Germany. Perhaps some of our friends from the German Cafe will weigh in with their personal raccoon experiences? Raccoons currently live in most parts of North America, even in places where it is quite cold in the winter. If raccoons are not already living in Norway, I'm sure they will be there soon. Lucky you!!! |

Could that be called Raccon Snail Chips? :] Hehe.. Yes, I think it can. ;-) May I add that I myself have not much problems with those snails.. I dont think they like Coconuts. ;-)) But other people are very much bothered.. its a shame. If raccoons are not already living in Norway, I'm sure they will be there soon. ;-) well, they dont. But maybe you are right.. they are probably on their way as we speak.. Who knows what may occour on the next photos I take around here.. ;-) To make sure noone say; "See - what did I tell you"., i may have to crop them.. Huh.. why shall I get myself into trouble like this, just because i found the raccoons sweet on pictures? lol.. |

The problems started when the raccoons decided to live in the cities. Most of the raccoons live around the city of Kassel (more or less in the centre of Germany) and around Berlin. Forrest rangers try to decrease the raccoon population by hunting them, but the result is that the "Waschbaeren" as they are called in german get more and more little babies. |

Since this thread has discussed OTHER life forms perhaps some of the more learned of us should start a thread to address the GREEN side of life forms and how us humans should deal with them. and in conclusion I state - I NEVER MET A COON I DIDN't LIKE. Since Dr C.E.T.I. has introduced us to a couple of our feathered friends, I thought this might be interesting. Below is a link to the FALCONCAM at the University of Pittsburgh. It is a continuous streaming video. At that site, there is another link for the FALCONCAM at the Gulf Towers in downtown Pgh. It is a rare glimpse into their private world we rarely, if ever, see. Cilantro happened by last night. He says "hi" to Joey and to all of his friends here. Cilantro is the biggest raccoon of our current visitors. I'm sure you will agree that he is quite a handsome fellow! |

what's up w/ 'glow eyes' in the background Bad photography, I'm afraid! That is Thing One in the background. He and Thing Two are terrified of Cilantro. Thing Two is under the deck in this shot. Thing One is keeping clear of Cilantro. I decided not to crop Thing One out because I thought he served as a reference point for showing viewers just how big Cilantro is in comparison to other raccoons. Giving the picture a second look, I'd have to say that the photo simply doesn't do justice to Cilantro's immense stature. Check out Cilantro's head. It is quite broad. That is perhaps a better clue as to his overall size. I doubt I will ever be able to get a side-by-side comparison shot of Cilantro with one of his "friends". They are all too afraid of him to come much closer than Thing One did in this shot. |

Heh, I just checked if there should be a raccoon emoticon in my Millan subscription, and indeed there was: LOL It looks like one of your raccoons, Angela and Eric, so maybe Millan has seen your pics and has made this one from them? Maybe you can see which one she has let her be inspired of? "I'm trying to maintain a shred of dignity in this world." - Me |
