Ever think (or even suspect) that most (if not all) of these scams are the terrorists' way of obtaining money to finance their operations?

For something like this? I doubt It as to predict or get in line somewhere down the line is highly unlikely as the chain would have to be predicted based on who each person is most likely to email the most and even then the prediction could go wrong and all the possibilities would require considerable computer power and terrorists don't have those types of resources at their beck and call, Only the US Government or the Equivalent in size would. So It isn't even remotely probable If You ask Me.

I agree and disagree with you on this one, SJ.

To pull this sort of thing off all you need is a computer (not even a server, just a laptop would do) and a purchased list of a few thousand valid email addresses. Hit them, and you’ll have (at least) few hundred gullible enough to pass it on to hundreds in their address books. Nuclear chain reaction on the internet.

But I doubt that this is in the terrorist money-making playbook. Most terrorism is either politically or religiously motivated and thus taps into money at the nation-state level. Far bigger bucks to be had there.

I was just thinking about the new email system wich was developed by a german university.
You no longer need email adresses.
It will analize the subject and the message and sent to different adresses.
Could be interesting.
I´m glad i do have a strong spam filter.

How can you send it to different addresses when the previous line just stated that they are no longer needed? They must be used on some level.

That's scary. What if I know three Erics, but one I recently had a problem with so I write an email that says "Eric, YOU SUXORS!!!!!1!!!11"? Even if I specify the last name, I don't think its very appropriate to tell all the Erics which one I'm mad at, particularly if they do not know each other.

Going by studies of human behavior, many never learn their lessons, which is why we have a high expectation of technology to solve our shortcomings. This would be a step backward for technology, IMO.

If you want to learn more about scams or just want some entertainment this is a good web site to use. Before trying this, make sure you read all the warnings because some of the people producing scams are very dangerous and you need to protect yourself. Web Scams

Some of the latest telephone scams:

You receive a call saying a family member has been in an accident and you should call a police officer at a particular 800 or 900 number. If you call you are put on hold to witch you are never answered. Meanwhile you are being charged an exorbitant service rate payable to the person who owns the number. I have heard of rates of as high as $100.00 us per minute. Telephone companies will not reverse these charges although they will take a look into the matter. But by the time you find out about the charges on your telephone bill, these guys have moved onto a new number. Most of these guys operate by setting up accounts through stolen IDs.

A second phone scam has to do with automotive warranty expirations. Their recorded message never tells you who's calling and they only give you a number to call back to. Two modes of operation work here. One is the same as described above, and the second is to sell you bogus warranty extensions.

Best advise I can give is; Hang up on any unsolicited calls (The police will come to your door in the event of an accident) and tell the guy at your door that you don't need his services no matter how good they sound.

There's another very important one making it's way around the internet. I thought I'd give you the complete email (Subject: Stinky Cheese) so you can read it for yourself:

Hey, everyone, listen up, your attention if you please
Really want to give you a warning
'Cause I found out this morning
'Bout a dangerous, insidious computer virus
If you should get an email with the subject: "Stinky Cheese"
Better not go taking your chances
Under no circumstances
Should you open it or else it will
Translate your documents into Swahili
Make your TV record "Gigli"
Neuter your pets and give your laundry static cling

(Look out!) It's gonna make your computer screen freeze
(Look out!) Erase the Easter eggs off your DVDs
(Look out!) Erase your hard drive and your back-ups too
And the hard drive of anyone related to you

Virus alert!
Delete immediately before someone gets hurt
Forward this message on to everybody

Soon, very soon, it will make all the paint peel off your walls
It'll make your keyboard all sticky
Give your poodle a hickey
And invest your cash in stock in Euro Disney
Then it will tie up your phone making prank long distance calls
It'll set your clocks back an hour
And start clogging the shower
So just trash it now, or else it will
Decide to give you a permanent wedgie
Legally change your name to Reggie
Even mess up the pH balance in your pool

(Look out!) It's gonna melt your face right off of your skull
(Look out!) And make your iPod only play Jethro Tull
(Look out!) And tell you knock-knock jokes while you're tryin' to sleep
(Look out!) And make you physically attracted to sheep
(Look out!) Steal your identity and your credit cards
(Look out!) Buy you a warehouse full of pink leotards
(Look out!) Then cause a major rift in time and space
And leave a bunch of Twinkie wrappers all over the place
That's right, it's a...

Common internet scams

I love it.

It seems to me that internet Scams (one way or another) are cons that have been around for generations. Albeit using older technology, like snail-mail, pony-express or hieroglyphics on a pyramid wall. Same crap, different venue. Thanks Misfit.

BTW: Totally love Bob Parsons and GoDaddy, where Q-Baby makes her happy little home.

In a year and a half of hosting my useless little site: ZERO down time, $7.00 per month. (Wonder if Korpela and company are paying any attention at all to the possibilities here? LOL!)
