What Veterans Day means to me. My strongest feeling is guilt, followed by remorse. Then comes the pain of grief and the anger of being betrayed. Yes, I am a Veteran. A decorated Combat Veteran who fought enemies this country did not need to have. Who lost friends because of incompetent leadership. Who destroyed a nation and a people because our politicians and our public believe they can use us to have what they want. When it would be cheaper and easier to live in peace.

I could tell you stories, but why bother. We are forgotten.

Americans are gluttons for power. This is the defining act of your national character. You do what gives you power.

You sacrifice us on the Almighty Altar of the Economy. You bury us. You lower the flag twice a year. You forget us. And you look for ways to use the next generation so you can have what you want.

And still I want to fight. To take back my country from those who believe we are supposed to die so they can have what they want. Because I do not want the dream to be forgotten.

I remember the 4 people I know of in My direct family that were in the US Military, 1 served in the GAR back in the US Civil War[1860-1865], My Dad who served in WWII as a Corporal in the 368th Medical Battalion in Europe(He wasn't drafted like so many others, He was technically legally blind as in one eye He was 20/200 and 20/50 in the other, could drive a stick and type[hunt and peck really], He recommended for a couple of commendations for His Service[1942-1946] and was trained to use a sidearm), My Uncle who Flew P-39s somewhere in the Pacific as a Warrant Officer(He also enlisted and could fly)[1942-1945], My Brother who volunteered for the US Navy in 1962 as He really didn't want to be drafted into the Army and sent to Vietnam, He served with short term memory problems for just over 20 years and took notes to make up for the lack of any short term memory(bruised brain injury from a car wreck that when the car rolled over could have killed Him If He'd been belted in, That's how weak the roof supports were in those cars and this happened before He went into the Navy too)[1962-1982], It would be 5, But My problems kept Me from having more than a few short tortured tries, 1st the Navy(I can't swim and I didn't know It then but I have severe anxiety problems and I followed orders to drop off a diving board into about 10' or so of water in an indoor pool and initially I kept My head as I launched off the bottom of the pool, But upon breaking the surface I lost It. In Short I got in Honorable Discharge, Next I tried the US Army thinking well there You don't need to know how to swim Eventually though I was feeling scared, My boots were too big(And the Drill Sargents whom I wrongly kept calling Sargents) thought the boots were simply too new and that I'd get used to them and didn't care that I knew what new boots were like, I wore boots in the Boy Scouts, Properly fitting Boots or Shoes would hurt for weeks on end, The Drill Sargents were just being Lazy assholes, The Army assumed cause I could read an eye chart that I have 20/20 vision when nobody in My family does (alive or dead), Sure I could read the charts(They were blurry and not sharp, But readable), I was good at target practice(moving or not and with no glasses, to a point, Couldn't hit 1200M as the closest I get was the sand under the lousy fuzzy target) from 50M to 600M I could Hit It(one shot with an M16, Qualified in both Semi and Full Automatic operation of the M16, Better than My brother who was a Diesel Engineman), I even qualified for Grenades(But You won't see It in the records possibly, As they don't reveal much when asked), Gas Masks(Easy as Pie as I was in control), Knew how to disassemble and reassemble an M16 rifle, One day on the Range did something stupid the Drill Sargents and I guess some officer wanted to inspect My rifle, Being green and a bit scared I turned around and almost without thinking pointed the rifle in their direction, Fortunately for them and Myself I'd emptied the rifle all the rounds I'd been issued, They thought I needed more training, Me I was having problems, A Psychiatrist might have helped, But all the base had for all I knew was a Chaplin and that was as about as useless as the oversized issued boots that I forced to wear and that as a result meant I had to ride in the back of a 6x6 truck(I wear an 11 EW(WWWW) today and the Military sizes sizes were regular size which I had no idea and so I was given the boots that were too big instead of too small, So I suffered as the Army wouldn't do squat, Also while on Guard Duty one night a DS from a Different company made humiliated Me in front of My own DS, As He ordered Me to yell I out that I loved the a certain DS(Wasn't true, I may have dated only one girl before going in, But It was for 4 or 5 years, And If She said No I honored Her request as She wanted to remain a Virgin until She was married, Hey She was My friend, Someone I could talk to, But then I wasn't raised to treat women as things, they aren't), In any case I have dog tags and a medal for shooting and grenades and was Honorably Discharged from the US Army by the Base Commander(some sort of General in charge of Ft Jackson SC in 1979, It's been more than 20 years), One of My 3 DSes was a Women and was She ever Tough, Fair But tough, The other two, One was likable and the other who was leaving(I wasn't told why) wasn't as well liked as He seemed like He was bucking to become an Officer(He seemed to be a bit of a Jerk), My Dad said the Military wasn't for Everybody and He said that He was proud of Me for trying and I think I actually won some respect from Him for trying. There's My families involvement up to the present day as the family has no new children since My brothers family has proven to be as empty as Mine, Oh and the Girl? She moved with Her folks to Bremerton WA as Her dad was in the Navy(orders?), That's the last I saw or heard of Felisha and I can't remember Her last name anymore(She's Filipino in origin though, not that matters really).

I have concentration problems and anxiety problems, In addition the thyroid problems, eyesight, I can see how the problems I had would relate, But I'll never be able to prove they existed back then. I even got into fights before the 5th grade sometimes(We moved quite a bit as Dad wanted a better paying job with no more responsibility(He was a route manager working for the Copley Organization, He was offered a better paying job as a Circulation Manager, But He turned It down, stupid, I think I see something there), Lets see I lived in these places for about a year or so maybe:

Sun Valley CA-?(Dad sold the house thinking vending machines were a smart idea as a friend got Him into It, He lost everything)
Lomita CA-2(pulled out of the YMCA class for Swimming)
Mar Vista CA-1(I was 8 yrs, rented house should've stayed, It was great)
Tulare CA-1(Spidervile, Mom hated the place, I loved the Tulee fog, rented again)
Lomita CA-1(again different address, rented again)
Dominguez CA-9(Divorceville after Mom had a Hysterectomy and thought now that She couldn't get pregnant anymore that She couldn't have Sex anymore either(She didn't like the attention She got from Dad anymore and didn't like what everyone knew was true that It was all in Her head that She'd been lied to by an ignorant Nun in School), She went to Catholic School where that was told to Her by a lying Nun) So She doctor Shopped to find one who'd help Her no questions asked, She found a female doctor(literally) who gave her some pills and Mom started drinking after work as well as smoking, She started that as soon as She started working before the divorce due to My Dad having had three small strokes, He made the money flow, What a waste, With both working they were about to turn the corner and were about to buy a house in Lakewood CA when More had polyps spotted in Her womb, Hence She got gutted like a fish and sewn shut and life went to hell in a handbag after that.
San Gabriel CA-10(House given to My Mom was in bad shape and needed lots of work, termites too, No cooling at all, just central heating and no insulation, plus worn out white cotton carpeting and a possibly cracked and heaved foundation do to My uncle planted a rubber tree at the back of the house, I reroofed the garage Myself[rolled roofing and roofing nails](and It doesn't look like It's been changed yet either)
San Gabriel CA-2(a Condo, Got tired of the Chinese witch who wouldn't allow cable or even Satellite TV in, I told Her I had a right to Satellite TV and showed Her where the FCC said I did and She said screw You condo rules are above the law, Remember I said She's Chinese, She was the Treasurer and they wanted Me to be the President or should I say the fall guy cause I could speak English(Which they could speak too, So I was being used as a patsy with No power), I soon wised up and sold the place and Mom and Me moved out after two years, We made $20,000 then, Condos went into the tank not long after the sale had closed I'd heard, So I was lucky and they were screwed).
Hesperia CA-12(Uncle died in 1988, Dad died in 1993, Mom died in 1998, Sister died in 1999 and My brother moved in with Me in 1998, all other relatives passed away before 1972)
Hesperia CA-4(Brother died in 2005)
Yermo CA-4+ and counting(on My own and alone), My only living relatives are in Victorville CA, Adelanto CA and West Covina CA(all 5 of them).

Grand Dad was born in a Log Cabin on a farm at least(Black Hills of South Dakota in 1888, Died in Culver City CA on 12-31-1969, age 92), Too old or young for any war I guess[bad timing?], But He saw the Moon Landing on TV, His 2nd wife died in 1968. To My Dads half brother, I reconstructed the family tree, the Family Bile was Missing, But I still found all the links except Your side, But that shouldn't be a big deal one day soon as I may try and get all the marriage/birth/death records in South Dakota, Idaho and Nebraska(plus in between, I'll find You If It takes the rest of My life, As I have lots of time It seems.

You aren't forgotten. Some of us know damn well that the USA should never engage in a police action. This country should only wage all out take no prisoners accept nothing but unconditional surrender war. If we ever do less than this our country gets torn apart and the lives of good honorable men are wasted for nothing, because as soon as we leave we loose. The rest of the world isn't good enough to live by the principals of our constitution and declaration of independence. We shouldn't bother trying to force it on them. It doesn't work.

My brother was was wasted by this country because some damn politician wanted to draw a political line in the sand for his own political ambitions. The politician understood nothing of what he was doing or the situation and accomplished nothing of value doing it. No my brother wasn't killed, but his sprit was which is worse.

No, darthvader, you aren't forgotten and neither is your sacrifice. Saying thanks isn't enough, but there isn't much else I can do. Thanks.

I just can't believe this country let a President send in the military just because he wanted to settle a personal score because "they tried to kill my daddy." [spit] No question he will go down as the worst President in history. Even Nixon will rate higher.

But not by much, As I was watching when Nixon ran for His life and resigned in flight back to California back then.

To vets the world over & to all those currently serving, my thanks.

I pray for the day that ALL polititians learn that our armed forces MUST only be used in the event of war & not as police officers.

Any nation that uses it's armed forces as police loses it's respect for itself & it's people.

It's been 90 years since the end of the most horrific bloodletting the world has known to that time & I dread the state of the world when the same can be said of WWII.

Looking around other project forums, I saw this over in Einstein and thought it might be of interest -

One of the unusual aspects with the turn to remembering the Armistice yesterday, was an unusual articles on local radio here.

Apparently, across the UK there are 30 Thankful Villages. A Thankful Village is one where there is no remembrance Cenotaph to be found.

These were villages whose young men voluntarily enlisted, like the res of the country, for service during the Great War (WWI). Although many men were wounded, all the veterans survived their war and returned (hence no Cenotaph).

One our Thankful Villages also sent men to fight in WWII and all returned alive, as well.

I remember all the wounded men I seen while I was a medic in the USAF that came my way. Quite a few of them they were. I think of them on Veterans Day.

The 368th Medical in WWII treated from what little I could find, Anybody that was hurt, Allied or enemy POW or those from occupied Germany from May 1945 on. My Dad wasn't a Doctor or Nurse, Just a Clerk, He never said a thing and I asked, so I can only infer that He saw a lot of causalities over those 4 years(He wrote letters and included some pics and postcards(North Africa, Sicily, Anzio, Northern France(Paris too) & occupied Germany up until 1946), Mom said He came back changed, She had worked in an aircraft plant and lived with My Grandparents(Earl and Grace) while He was away(She gave birth to My brother James(Mom named Him Sandy, Dad had that changed to James via the Grandparents). Sounds like Dad was Radar almost, Maybe, But I'll never know for sure.

I remember one day in November my Mom and Dad came to visit me at Wright Patterson AFB in Ohio and I took them to the Air Force Museum and when we got to the section on the South Pacific during WW2 he discussed his time in the USN during WW2 in the South Pacific he was in the 57th Seabee’s at Espiritu Santo in the New Hebrides group and later in the Admiralties on
Manus Island and later on to Okinawa He said that the Jap would bomb for 6 months and if a guy did not keep his head down he would get it shot off. The natives would get a pack of cigarettes for every Jap head they brought in the natives would carry the heads on a grass g string they wore. My cousin who budded around with my Dad before he shipped out said Dad would send home bullets he dug out of dead Jap. If a man were disliked he would not return from patrols. He lost all of his gear at sea when his ship went down and he was glad he was on a small ship because the suicide bombers would fly over his ship in search of bigger targets. He dropped a pair of binoculars at sea and lost a stripe.
