Oh, please, folks. Stop with the artificial anecdotes and the Pollyanna spin doctoring.

Just review the message boards for the history. AP has caused a major disturbance in the system, largely due to apparently unforeseen storage issues and "ghost wu's". I'm all for moving to AP but right now the "try-it-and-see" method advocated below is simply wasting resources for chaotic gain, at best.

Myself, I'm in the "try-it-SLOWLY-AND-METHODICALLY-and-see" camp. But I believe I must be in the minority here. So I shall now get off my soap box, squat under a proper tree, and contemplate my navel.

How do you try it "SLOWLY" on a project the size of S@H? It was tested and tried on the Beta side of things. It went well over there. So the next logical step is, after much planning, to release it in the main project.

I've been here on SETI since the classic project was running. I have left at times to do other projects, either because I lost interest or didn't see much happening here. I sometimes read (or didn't read) the msg boards. Sometimes things worked, and sometimes things didn't. That's the way things are.

Life goes on, even if I do (or don't) have some WUs from SETI.

SETI@home is a non-profit project and need donations.

The servers are not the newest..

If you have little money give a donation..
And if more people do this, the new server will do a well job.

I can't resist pointing out that if you read my earlier suggestion, just enable a few AP's at a time, preferably during the week, and watch for fall out. This is called "slowly". Doing it with clear objectives and metrics is called "methodically". No rocket science here; just scientific method. Of course, my comments are my own and don't reflect anybody else's (too bad).

Looks like they finally got in there and kicked the right box. At least I was able to upload all my finished work units just now on my work laptop, with a little manual coaxing by me.

Now if they can just help us get some new work on our machines.

That will probably be a while as all the splitters are still disabled.

Better yet Phone for The Doctor (uk folk will understand better than the yanks)

This is more of a Torchwood issue, the Doctor is busy gearing up for the Cybermen in December.

Actually, he isn't. He's busy doing Shakespeare.

Tennant, who persuaded "Doctor Who" producers to take a yearlong hiatus so he could return to the stage, has said he finds the prospect of playing Hamlet "exciting and humbling and terrifying and thrilling."

The upload process has been BUSY, almost 200,000 WUs uploaded in the last hour alone. The backend processes have noticed that quorums have been achieved with many workunits, and are processsing them out to the database.

They may have to wait until tomorrow to let things settle down after a very busy afternoon letting things get caught back up. After all, there are over 3M WUs out there, and there must be a large fraction of them ready to be uploaded, much much more than this first 200,000 (5 of which were mine).

<WAY OT>David Tennant is doing Shakespeare, true 'nuf, but The Doctor's next adventure in December has him dealing with the Cybermen again. New companion too?

Season 4 was over too fast.</WAY OT>

HUFF! Ya think?

Thank gawd (or at least the beeb) that they pulled the plug on the slowly dying corpse that was Sylvester McCoy (more for the poor scripts than anything else). The rejuvenated series is a breath of fresh air. Oh that the production qualities of today could have been applied to Patrick Troughton's and John Pertwee's scripts.

the home page says wait for assimilate, validate, purge to clear first. They will hold off more work til this calms somewhat. Lots of WUs to upload, validate, assimilate, purge first.

Thing appear to have clogged again. There's a four hour backlog everything is green on the server status page apart from ap_splitter2. I'm sure they will fix it tomorrow with the weekly outage. Best of luck team & thanks for all the hard work.

Towards the end of the afternoon yesterday we put in a new scheduler to fix a bug with "anonymous platforms" and the way they handle Astropulse workunits. This is working fine as far as I know, but at first there were some brief issues with uploads in general (human error when installing new scheduler).

Did any of you who are blaming AP read the -first- paragraph that started this thread? AP didn't break the system, it was a software error that appeared to only have a short-term impact, at the time of the post.

They're doing what they can (at the time of writing this, the problem was fixed many hours ago), just deal with it. We're all volunteers. You can't complain if your only contribution is CPU time.

I don't think it's a good idea, now everybody who is acessing the forums, knows, there are server problems, NOT to UPLOAD whole BOINC logfiles, it even takes more disk space, then there's available at this time.
All in good time, even the staff can't break iron with bare hands.
There have been a lot off good suggestions, for those, who are addicted to crunching, just a joke though. ;)
Please don't PANIC, work is on it's way . . .

You do realize that AP is software, too, right? Of course, AP broke the system because the system wasn't tested for AP's inclusion.

BTW, RAC isn't my particular passion. I like to see a smoothly operated, well engineered system work well; a sort of Borg fan. Recently seti hasn't been doing so and so I get disturbed.

I'm set up for 100% Seti, but now I noticed one unit of Astropulse is the only thing my computer is working on, how did Astropulse get into my 100% Seti? I am aware your having upload difficulties in reading the other post, I'll pray for speedy cure to your problem.

Frank

Probably your machine had finished all the SETI WU's and the AP WU was the only thing left to run (they are MUCH longer) Astropulse is a sub-project of the SETI@home project: it will automatically download (assuming you are using the stock Application) and run.

Well, early this morning, before they got to work for the Tuesday shutdown, I managed to upload a couple of WUs, and downloaded 10 more, in spite of Server Status saying 2 WUs queued for download. So they were putting out new WUs yesterday and this morning, just not a flood of them. Tight scheduling deadlines on WU's downloaded too, BOINC says "Running, high priority" for Wus with a deadline of 8/19
