My view Part II...

Great Googly Moogly! The percentages in the Progress column are spinning faster than the numbers on the fuel pump when I fill my tank!
(Well...okay that's a bit of an exaggeration because we all know it's not possible for the numbers on our computers to actually move that fast:-)

I'll add my thanks in, it was a lot of work by a lot of people for not much more than hearing us say thanks, and getting a bit more science done. I appreciate the effort of all involved.

I too must add my thanks.

I have only just returned to Boinc and Seti ( as a result of the email asking me to return ) and have been crunching 3 days on two boxes.

I installed the vanilla boinc and seti on day one then read all about Crunch3r and his efforst so yesterday installed the 64 bit boinc and 64 bit app from cruncher on my little machine
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ [AMD64 Family 15 Model 67 Stepping 2] ( Vista Ultimate 64bit )
and Crunch3rs Boinc client and SSE2 client on my main machine
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+ [x86 Family 15 Model 107 Stepping 2] ( Vista Ultimate 32 bit )

that alone sped things up but since installing the new Seti clients on both machines tonight, already there is a marked increase. I have shaved what appears to be initially 2500 seconds aprrox. off my Brisbane whilst at the same time I have been running corel painter X and photoshop CS3 as I am drawing a portrait for someone.
The results for the smaller machine are as yet inconclusive but it is looking good.

I know my little machines are not huge crunchers like some of you chaps have but it already looks like the new apps are making best use of my 4 cores.

I'm not a great number devotee and don't mind where I fall in any lists but as long as my boxes are doing the best they can I'm happy. To me, it looks like they are doing the best they can so thanks all involved.

Sorry I was away so long, there was nothing political about this, just got lazy and drifted off.

Thank you to all who made it possible this new apps!!

I see between V5.15 Rev. 2.4V SSE3 and the new SSSEx (both 32 bit) ~ 40 % more speed at my QX6700..

I think more than an 68%... (in my modest computer) ;)

Going from NI!2.4 SSE2 to AK V8 SSE3, I'm seeing ~25% less time to crunch similar AR WUs on my A64 X2s. Great job guys!

I, for one, have had nothing but mid AR units (between 0.4 and 0.5) since the new App was released. This band is where the new Apps have greatest impact (not accidentally as I understand it). As and when we get some VLAR or VHAR WU's, the improvement, while still very impressive, is not quite so mind-blowing.

Don't expect the gravy train to keep going full tilt :)

Is there a way of knowing the AR of a unit prior to crunching? Where is that info posted? Thanks.

A very special thanks goes out to the following for their work in porting the AK code to Windows.

Alex Kan
Jason G
Raistmer
JDWhale
Simon
Joe Segur
Ben Herndon
Crunch3r

These people have worked tirelessly to get this port completed and released.

Thanks to each one of you from the Geek.

We also must give thanks to the Testers out there, Of course I only know of One:

msattler

And to FredW and others for the charts.

Tested the first WU's, amazing, just amazing, a 1:14:12 WU in 0:34:16, with the new app. .On a QX 9650, stock @ this moment.SSE3 Build, to start with, as was the gain, with crunch4r's SSSE3, not so big, took SSE3.Maybe SSE4.1, have to try.

That's just one but it looks all very promising and also thanx from this cruncher, tip to the hat!

@Fred,

From the charts I published I was quite confident that the SSSE3x and SSE4.1 Apps were much faster than the SSE3. I have run through over 100 WU's using the SSE4.1 on my Q9450 since yesterday (all in the same AR band) and it looks like there are still a lot in the same AR band coming next, so I have just swapped to the SSSE3x App to do a direct comparison.

Charts to follow when I have enough results, though it may be a while before we have an understanding across all Angle Ranges as the supply seems to be very focussed at the moment.

An excellent piece of work, thanks to all involved in bringing this to fruition.

I only have one Windows box a Athlon64 X2 4200+ running 32bit XP Pro.
Initial results appear to be about 40% faster compared with the 2.4V x32 SSE2a client.

I look forward to a future release of a Linux 64bit client, I plan to try running the Windows 32bit client under wine on one of the Linux Q6600 boxes, but I'm going to have to crunch through several hundred cached work units first.

Is this an app that anyone can run? If so, how do we get it? If it will give an estimated 40% boost in crunchtimes, lots of people are going to want it.

Thanks

The code, from the Lunatics web site, will boost any PC (AMD or Intel) which supports the SSE3 instruction set and above (SSSE3, SSE4). As yet SSE2 and below are not supported, and I am not sure what would happen if the new code is placed on rigs with the earlier instruction sets.

The new code is working well on the Quads, and RAC rises slowly.

Correct, they do. I have a couple P4 laptops, Toshiba 2435-s255, that I cant seem to find the information on.

Also, both the Athlon and Phenom, are running Vista. Is Vista supported? I could only find mention of earlier Windows versions.
