Where is the proper thread for this?

Seems whatever I do to ask gets deleted.

Where do normal people go to make suggestions?

Beware all new seti forum posters....even if you make new benign postings you are subject to censorship......

You need to be careful where and WHAT you say. It is subject to censor.

Of course we need to be careful, as in any forum, and obey the rules. Everyone knows it, or should do, and we are careful, and we do obey the rules. Don't we?

Yes they should obey the rules...just like moon and you should ...or the others..

It's essential, son.

No point.

Don't waste your time.

Thread deleted. And all without notification to anyone.

Direct all comments by PM or direct to setimods email.

I too very strongly disagree with certain actions afflicting what I consider is undue and personally biased censorship. Rules are only worthwhile if they are fairly and consistently interpreted.

Martin

There have been threads to discuss forum moderation. Every one ultimately devolved into flame-fests . . . and this one appears to be heading in the same direction.

There are changes coming, how well they will work is anyone's guess.

For the moment, I would suggest that patience is a virtue ... though, like chastity, it can be vastly overrated.

There is awareness, I think, in about everyone's mind that there is a problem ... the trouble is, will the change make things better or worse?

Mods were installed because of problems years ago, the addition of moderators created new problems ... one of which is the "rule of silence", though, the rationale is sound, in practice what it means is there is no visibility of the actions and the behavior ...

Again, in fairness, the point is to prevent the abuser of the forum to abuse a moderator ...

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Which was specifically ordered by Admin. The new admin may be the greatest guy in the world. He may end up being DLB of Predictor. None of us knows.

From another thread 'elsewhere' on the forums which I consider (my own view only) is still applicable:

I think there's been a good learning exercise on all sides. You could even include that as part of the science and project research!

Meanwhile, the mods do listen, and hopefully positive changes will be made as needed. One step which I think is a good idea is that of rotating the mods group selection.

Having the same group for any length of time unavoidably forms cliques. The two-month staggered rotations should help avoid that.

And yes, getting your posts "modded" is rather irksome. But then again, consider whether your posting was useful to others or merely there for your own benefit.

There's a very good saying somewhere to consider whether your utterance enhances the silence. Otherwise, please consider further or remain silent.

The bit about keeping things "American kiddie friendly" is always going to stifle any "adult banter". Then again, I agree that there are other forums far better suited to such banter. You are free to set up your own just as some users have done.

Meanwhile, lets keep the science rolling!

Keep searchin',

Regards,
Martin

Ok... So dare I ask for a (very brief) summary of the outcome?

Please PM if the comments might endanger this thread!

Cheers,

Where do normal people go to make suggestions?

After we find them, then we can decide where to send them... ;)

(Here's a suggestion: POST BY THE RULES, MOD BY THE RULES.)

WWJD?

He would post by the rules, mod by the rules, and patiently endure persecution from those who do not... ;)

No, he would have gathered 12 friends, then preached his kind of Posting rules then demand change.
