Move over Rover: China's No. 1 USA Today reports that China, already the world leader in cellphone use, has surpassed the USA as the No. 1 nation in internet use. Hi Champ! Hi Luke, May I suggest The Puzzle Society? They're not very expensive, only $3.95 a month or $19.95 for a year. Their homepage: http://www.upuzzles.com/free The reason I suggest them is that they have the best Java setups. You can use the "Regular" mode, which shows up letter mistakes in red. And their graphics for USA Today and Jonesin' are super. Jonesin' looks much better here than even on its own hompage. ;]] |

Rolling Stone magazine named these as the greatest albums of all time: Heyas Misfit!!! :]]] Good to see you in Beethoven's!!! That's an interesting list. My list of "yes" "no" would look very much like Red's list, except that I'd give the nod "yes" to Marvin Gaye and even add his "Trouble Man" film score to the list. I'd also give a "yes" to Jimi Hendrix if that's the album that "All Along the Watchtower" is on. You come back soon now, y'hear? :]] |

Good morning Beets! How are you? Hi Andy!!! Yes it has! A bit of a cool one this year, but I heard some robins yesterday. It was sunnier than yesterday's weather report predicted, too. :]] How's it around you? (EEK! I forget where you live, Andy.) |

I live in the SW of England. 120m West of London (as everyone seems to know London as a reference point :D ) The weather has been very changeable here. Some days very warm, some days very cold. On Sunday the fog was so thick I struggled to drive over 45 MPH on the motorway. Yesterday was rainy all day and today is cold and cloudy. The outlook isn't too clever with talk of frosts to come! I finish work on Friday for 2 weeks and am hoping for better weather as I am having a friend to visit and we are hoping to go off sight seeing and doing a load of touristy stuff together. I hope I'm not out of luck for this one! |

Hello Everyone... The horror has been unleashed again... In my computer. My slow rig is back... First Time System Restore worked... But now it doesn't.... And it has something to do with "Software Distribution Service 3.0" & SysRestore. I've poked around on the internet recently... found a few things, but what I read is too deep in the water for my liking... Any got anymore suggestions.... This is what I've tried.... 1. Fiddled around with verclsid.exe in Sys32 and renamed it verclsid.old... 2. Removed "KB908531" "KB918165" "KB834707" "KB840987" from Add & Remove Programs. 3. I've system restored 100 times now... Best Regards, Luke. @Beets.... www.upuzzles.com/free is one of my many homepages in Firefox... thanks for the link!!!! - Luke. |

Hello Everyone... . . . IN the EVENT you don't know re: the following - > when You update your system - make sure that you use ONLY the Updates for the System you're using: (IF You haven't) ex: XP or XP Pro - DO NOT USE 'ANY' Updates that relate to Vista - for example - Your system WILL go 'looloo' . . . < read the white papers on Updates BEFORE You install . . . > oops - one more thing BEFORE You do anything - TURN OFF RESTORE - then Install what you need - ReBoot - and THEN SET a RESTORE POINT . . . . . . hope this is something that'll help BOINC Wiki . . . Hello Everyone... I know there is a lot of people with this problem out there... Google "Software Distribution Services 3.0" and thousands of results appear. "SDS 3.0" is re-installed every time you Reboot with Updates to your computer. And Re-installed if a system restore is done to uninstall it. If you manually delete the folder/file it re-appears with the next Install of Updates or Restore.... So I can't update my computer automatically. Unfortunately what you suggested will not solve it!!! Thanks anyway!!! Anyone have any other suggestions? Best Regards to all, Luke - Luke. |

Hello Dear Friends!!! Well, I hope everyone had fun during the weekly outrage. :]] @Luke: I'm sorry to see that you're having problems again. Do you still have proxp.exe installed? First, get rid of your name changes, go back to square one. (It's tricky and dangerous to fool with some of those Windows system components.) Next have a look at MSCONFIG choosing the "Services" tab. Do you see "Software Distribution Service 3.0" listed as one of the services? Try unchecking it, if it's there. Does that make a difference? Let me ask you how important it is for you to have automatic udates. The main reason for it is thos security updates, but I think that any real good firewall is better than Windows security anyway, because Windows only blocks incoming and does nothing to block outgoing. I'm one of those that doesn't like Windows updates and I use proxp.exe to remove it every thime I reboot. If you still have proexp.exe use it and take a screenshot of what you've got. A couple of files (like userinit.exe, imap.exe come and then go. don't worry about those). When everything is on in your system, do you see anything that might be new (ie put on by software distribution service)? Point those out to me when posting your screenshot of proxp.exe). I just want to point out that although wscrtfy.exe is an automatically reloading program, windows updater (aupd.exe or something like that, not sure about that "d" at the end) is not. Meaning that if you turn on ProcessXP right away when your icons come on, you can catch windows update loading up, so you can right-click it and select "remove process" quickly. That prevents it from working for this session. An important check is whether your service distribution 3.0 is legitimate Windows or a Trojan. If it's legit, it'll be in the Windows\\Systems32 folder. If it's not, don't touch it, but let me know. We should take this one step at a time, and document what you've got with screenshot or pen and paper before you remove files/folders in general. But I'll tell you where I'm headed. If other things don't work, you'll want to use Windows "Safe Mode" to boot your system and restore. That's one way of getting restore to actually work if something like this software distribution is blocking the restore by automatically loading itself. We may want to go back a bit to before the problem arose to make our Restore point from Safe Mode. But hopefully we wont need to go through all that. Let's see if unchecking it from MSCONFIG "Services" and/or Process Explorer works first. :]] But let's look at what we've got first, then we can see what we should try. I hope some of this helps. :]] Beets |
