CNN international---a few minutes ago they report new rockets landing in N.Israel.
-------------------------------------------

Dear Editor:

What will it take for Israel to go to war? How many more Israelis will
have to be murdered, kidnapped, or maimed?

Israel says the killing and kidnapping of Israelis by Islamic terror
groups Hezbollah and Hamas are acts of war. But is Israel prepared to
wage a real war in self-defense?

Hezbollah and Hamas have been launching attacks against Israelis for
decades--yet Israel has not used its military capability to inflict
massive destruction on these groups and obliterate the terrorist
states that harbor and sponsor them.

It is long past time for Israel to wage a real war against these
terrorist groups and states. And it is long past time for the United
States to join Israel in waging this war.

They should place all the leaders, and politicians, from both sides in a pressurised locked room in space. Then there would be an air leak introduced and they would have to agree peace terms and long term co-operation of not survive!

That way other people will not do the dying for the politics or politicians.
It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues

The best, but least likely, outcome would be for the Lebanese military to join the Israeli Defense Forces against Hezbollah.

That I could agree with. Anything has to be better then war. There are no winners in war, only losers and survivors.

Iran controls Hezbollah and this is part of their plan to relieve the international pressure on them. Hezbollah knew full well what the result of siezing Israeli soldiers would be. Although it does not help to respond with full force,Israel has little choice. The minute it shows any weakness it could be fatal. The striking of the Middle East tinder box is mostly designed to weaken and divide the United States. When will we wake up to the fact that we are in REAL WARnwith a clever foe who knows how to turn our might against ourselves.

Needless to say, that source is extremely one-sided, much as I might agree with her ultimate goal.

I'm not that naive. But I did serve in Afganastan, and I firmly belive that war is something that far too many people want to rush right into.

That's a good point Stan, and I'll add this to it, if I may. If another War breaks out in the Middle East, and if Israel can be painted as "aggressors", Iran has gained a credible justification for arming itself with nuclear weapons as a deterrent to Israel. I think that is also part of Iran's plan.

From http://setiathome.berkeley.edu//forum_thread.php?id=31381&nowrap=true#369014

Robert summarizes the situation very well.
Thanks Robert

Knightmate,

There's a thread CA made about the mid east crisis you may want to visit.

In the meantime, here's a simplistic rundown of the situation. Hezbollah, is a militant Shiite terror group existing in Lebanon, just north of Israel. They are backed and supplied by Iran and began launching hundreds of rockets on Israeli cities. Israel had had enough and hit back into Lebanese territory (where Lebanon, who is fairly 'westernized') is both unwilling/unable to control this army. Syria, to Lebanon's North had occupied Lebanon as 'friends' until the burgeoning liberal attitude of democracy took hold when the citizens saw what was possible in the region with elections happening in Afghan and Iraq. They , some say, want an excuse to get back in the action. China sold alot of their missiles to Iran which in turn furnished them to Hezbollah. There's alot more to it than that of course, but check out that thread. Supposedly Iran has specialists in Lebanon helping these attacks on Israel, including the ship they hit the other day, in order to distract from their own nuclear arms program.

If I were playing 'evil dictator of the world' wargame...

I'd have N.Korea invade the South. Iran invade Iraq to tie up the allied forces there....
China can move into N.Korea to 'stabilize' territory.

Japan can attack out of its own national interest. Russia can move forces to the Eastern border..

Syria reoccupy Lebanon......and invade the Israelies

We could throw a war party and invite everyone. Now THAT'S a war....
