This just in from email:

Einstein@Home experienced a major air-conditioning failure about 24 hours ago and will be off-line for at least another 24 hours.

Hmm,did they use their air-conditioning for cooling computers..
.. or did the maintenacepeople just go home when the aircond' broke down. ;)
(sorry, couldn't resist it.)

Thanks Ageless for this news.
My machines were unable to contact Einstein@home since yesterday in the evening and i didn't know why. :(

edit : i remember that i saw "down for maintenance" and since nothing..

Do you want to get banned for 31 years and your account & credits deleted at a Boinc project ? Predictor@home is your best choice.

The bean counters don't want to pay double time for, what they consider, a non-cridical failure.

This is what Eric Myers says on Pirates:

Einstein@Home is down due to failure of the air conditioning in the server room and subsequent crash of the database server. The project server was shut down cleanly. No word on the extent of damage to the server and no estimate yet of how long repairs should take (it's a holiday weekend in the US.)

I would imagine that the money for repairs ultimately comes from the project, so triple-time for a holiday may not be a good deal, especially if those who crunch alot are running large caches.

Those who crunch multiple projects will just do other work and build debt, so that crunching time will come back too.

... and even if they did spend big bucks for a service call on a holiday, what if they need a part that isn't available on a holiday weekend.

Sounds like a sound fiscal decision.

Me thinks that E@H is about to experiance some of the up/download crunch that comes after an extended outage. :(

Argh...just ran out of Einstein work...

Oh well...more time to SETI...

All works out in the end...

Hope there wasn't too much damage...

Well, it's almost a blessing ince my first attempt to run a SETI-enhanced WU on my old Pentium II (Linux) takes a long time. I used to complete a SETI WU in about 10 hours of CPU time, now it will take 80 plus hours.

I was thinking this too... I pulled all my E@H machines and put them on SETI and another project, mostly SZTAKI.

This is very funny - I see that Boinc says that Einstein communication is deferred for 165 hours!

I've suspended my Boinc networking activity for the time being. I'm suspicious of the Seti upload and Einstein if off the air for the time being. I guess I'll turn it back on sometime tomorrow morning. I've got work for the next maybe 24 hours with some of the other DC projects. Hope Einstein gets it fixed soon - I like to get those credits - they're very generous at Einstein.

I've got one currently at 167 hrs & 36 minutes. I don't think you can get above 168 hrs which is a week. But perhaps someone can do better ...

Anyone know how to knock these back to zero when the project is back and settled? There's a trick with the clientstate.xml file but is there anything superior and safer?? Mike

All of my pending SETI has uploaded (and reported), so it's just Einstein.

These kinds of numbers make the recovery go a lot smoother, not so many trying to hit Einstein all at once.

You could just leave it go....

Select the project, and hit "update"...

No, the max seems to be this one:

31/05/2006 14:00:52|Einstein@Home|4 consecutive failures fetching scheduler list - deferring 604800 seconds

That is 168h. :-)
