Talk about little children fighting of whose toy cars there playing with. Instead of crying over spillt milk, why don’t we all constructively help the SETI Team solve the problems in the system |

> Could very well be ;-) I have no problem at all in "playing" the dead or tired > wood being cut away to make place for the revolution of the eager young trees > and branches in "Seti Wood". Reading some of the (completely disrespectfull > but I don't care) replies here, there is quite some hope for Seti !! ... if > you get my drift :-) If your going to leave - why dont you shut up and bugger off... It really annoys me the way people try to be Martyrs! You choose to donate or not to donate... end of story! If your not happy with the situation -= turn off seti = but why the hell should we care! You obviously don't! For me, this is a very interesting time, and I have learned so much about how the back end of seti actually works... This has made the project more interesting for me. I stopped all my Classic's the moment BOINC was publically released, and I dont regret it one moment! So for all you whinging Dutch and Flemmish people out there - SHUT THE F*** UP PLEASE !!! ------------------------------------------------ Once you have ruled out the impossible, everything else, however improbable, is possible! (These PC's cannot be converted to run BOINC as they do not have a direct internet connection - nor can they ever as the building they are in cannot connect via ADSL - too far from the exchange). I just felt that with people leaving the SETI project, that there might be a way to keep the stats increasing across all the SETI accounts. As for wanting the credit itself? What's the point? It's not like I can sell them on eBay ?????? They don't actually have any "worth". Tim |

Me neither. I find it a great sport to keep my pc's busy and my cache's full. =========== hehe ... Me too, it's like a game to see if I can get more WU's or not, if I can't I just run Predictor or Seti Classic until I can... |

Why not let them get rid of their hot vented steam a bit? Or are only the Dutch and Belgians to shut up and is it okay when other country people whine? ;) ---------------------- Jordâ„¢ |

Yes, infact patience is a virtue, but to flame is just plain ignorance...much to much of it going on...let cooler heads prevail, SETI/BOINC is still in the infancy stage...all things will work out in time, personally I'm in it for the long haul, as are many others. Cold Rain, as an American living and working in Chongqing China, this a place that will teach you patience..no malice intended... Xi3...as always "patiently" reporting live from Chongqing China... <a> |

I am a relative noob, but I do know a few things: 1) after a fraught beginning last week, I am now receiving and crunching WUs as fast as my single home PC can manage, 2) I will, eventually, receive the credits due to me. 3) The work I am doing is helping the cause regardless of whether I receive credit or not. 4) The doomsayers would have us believe that the best way forward is to go backward (i.e. go back to SETI classic) If the human race had followed this negative path, we would all be driving Model T Fords and using Windows 3.1. Our eyes point forward for a reason!! |

Thanx xi3piscium, you are obviously a 'glass half full' person like myself. Actually managed to upload a WU about an hour ago - has all gone quiet again unfortunately! |

I have my preferences set to 9 to 14 days of WU's and I kept chugging right on through this latest 4 day outage. With similar setting your farm should be able to use Boinc even on dial-up modem. Yea, and we'd be burning them mostly in Europe and Asia since there is no way people would have stayed on North America if that was the way of things, that is to say if North America was ever reached. > > I am a relative noob, but I do know a few things: > > 1) after a fraught beginning last week, I am now receiving and crunching > WUs > > as fast as my single home PC can manage, > > 2) I will, eventually, receive the credits due to me. > > 3) The work I am doing is helping the cause regardless of whether I > receive > > credit or not. > > 4) The doomsayers would have us believe that the best way forward is to > go > > backward (i.e. go back to SETI classic) If the human race had followed > this > > negative path, we would all be driving Model T Fords and using Windows > 3.1. > > > > Our eyes point forward for a reason!! > > > Wrong! I understand why users are fed up, were sitting here collecting equipment and doing things like rewiring adding dedicated AC units and asking for only one thing, work to do! and not to mention credit for our efforts... And were not slaves, we can leave when we have had enough, most of us "crunchers" are putting hundreads if not thousands of dolars twards the project out of our pockets and taking up space, adding noise, and putting in hours of work all for FREE, Yes I under stand that there systems go down etc.. I'm a IT sysadmin! but I also know why users are geting ticked becaue there farms are sitting there idling and sucking electricity and making heat waiting for more work to do... We want to work on the project and make the most out of what we have to offer the project. This is what i would like SETI to do... Give us non BETA software, unless we ask for th BETA stuff to try out. and dont go production till your ready! Were customers, we are the force that makes SETI work... Now what would SETI think if all us crunchers just decided to quit crunching for a week, SETI Strike... it would get there attention, there production would go down drasticly for that time frame, Im not saying we should do this but somthing to think about. One thing that i thing seti should do is offer a SETI OS, based on linix, you install it on one pc and thn it performs all the network boot for the rest of the SETI farm... Make farming simple... Most of the top producers run farms, and if they make it easy there will be more farms out there... Just My Thoughts. <a> |
