Congratulations, you drove us out. I have completed more work units than 97.503% of your users. I was part of the US NAVY team/group and was approximately 118th on their list. Competition is part of what kept me participating. Now I can't even see where I am on the list. You don't bother go that far down the list. Frankly, you forgot to ask or care about your volunteers interests. BTW, I work in a Navy office. I/we are all outta here! BOINC that. |

Sounds like a set of cheaters that are mad they can no longer cheat. If they looked around, they can find lots of sites that have more stats than they ever wish for. My movie https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/502242 |

Sounds like a set of cheaters that are mad they can no longer cheat. That's totally unfounded and uncalled for. The guy's accumulated 2,437 Classic workunits since August of 1999 and you think he cheated to get them? Is this how you're responding to complaints now? That's terrible. Dig |

Well you joined right at the time when Berkeley was working on servers and they created a huge backlog so theres not much work out there. The system is recovering and is sending out work again now, you just need to be patient. BOINC WIKI Overclockers.com's Forum |

as pooh bear said there are plenty of stats sites http://www.boincstats.com/ it's simple enoung and what exactly has driven you away? as i've said in other posts these are the people that invented RAID so they know what they're doing, yes boinc has it's problems, as does any project, but they're working on them, and it's getting better, and they're satisfying more people considering they're on a limited budget, and it's all sponsorship and donations they're doing pretty well, as i recall from being a cruncher since 2000 and having quite a bit of experience with the classic system, i don't believe it can do 80% of the stuff that boinc can do, i personally love boinc and have nothing but praise for the boinc people at berkeley besides, they're closing classic anyway, so complaining doesn't change anything, only lowers moralle, which is just plain pointless and as a "volunteer" have you forgotten why you're doing this? surely it's for the science, and if the seti people deem that boinc is the way to go, then that's up to them, you don't have to have to be a part of it i just find it disapointing that people are worrying about credit (which was only created to keep such people happy) when the real purpose of this seems to be lost just my opinions Want to search the BOINC Wiki, BOINCstats, or various BOINC forums from within firefox? Max Headroom is the only person that actually answered the question/complaint. I had the same problem with this new BOINC. I was watching myself creep up the juno domain list since I was in the top 1000 list. I was at 24th. Now my favorite stat is gone. Max Headroom as well as another person was kind enuf to actually point out a good site for finding myself in the see of volunteers. www.boincstats.com appears to be what the original poster was looking for. thanks Max. |

Sounds like a set of cheaters that are mad they can no longer cheat. So why can the project NOT be bothered even giving something to us in return? They have absolutely no understanding of the concept of keeping people on side. So who, how and why and where does this surrilous accusation that people MUST be cheating because they don't like the BOINC software come from? Why go to 3rd party sites for information? WHy go to 3rd party sites for stats that we have on classic? Why go to 3rd party sites for add-ons to replace the ones used in classic and are essential to make the thing work? Why go to 3rd party sites for support? Why go to 3rd party sites because the project team cannot be bothered speaking to those doing work for them? Why should we do work for nothing, no respect consideration or anything? |

the project NOT be bothered even giving something to us in return? They have absolutely no understanding of the concept of keeping people on side. What did the project give you before? Nothing much more than it does now, but it's a much better project. You are a volunteer, they are only asking you crunch data for them, they do not have to give you anything in return, but they give credits, so you can see how you compare to others. Why 3rd party? Well, 3rd parties have time to do this, and make it better than ever. There are people who love to do that sort of thing, and I think it's great that those volunteers go overboard (like Paul for the documentation, and many stat sites that will blow your mind). The developers would have the basics, nothing much more. This project was only slated for 2 years, it's now been running 6. You got 4 more years of crunching data. So, be thankful the plug wasn't pulled 4 years ago, and Seti was no longer being worked on. Now, to answer the questions of my statement earlier in this thread. It was a very frustrating day, I had a lot on my mind, and the amount of whining going on in threads just got to me. So I blew up. I am sorry I blew up, it was out of line. I have been trying to avoid doing this, and think I have done a much better job. I hope that the volunteers that do come to Boinc stay for as long as we need to look. I am happy to volunteer. I am happy to see the 3rd party people doing the stats, documentation, etc. I think it gives the developers time to make this project better and better without the hassle of having to work on all the fluff. I personally hate creating documentation when I work on a new project. I would be glad if a 3rd party could do it for me. My movie https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/502242 |

surely it doesn't matter who does what, as long as it's good, and it works? after-all the more general purpose something has to be, the less good it is in each area, so if different sites specialise, then they (should) be really good in that particular area :) Want to search the BOINC Wiki, BOINCstats, or various BOINC forums from within firefox? Up to a point, but why is their nothing on the website? There are no links to documentation, no links to any stats sites that remotely compare with those on classic, no responses from those in authority who leave volunteers detached from the project to do their dirty work for them. The key to maintaining interest and involvement on the part of the hundreds of thousands (over the yeasr millions) giving their free time and machinery to supporting a University's research project is to give them something in return. Currently they expect us to uncritically welcome the opportunity to do something for them and they do nothing in return!!! That is the background message to ALL the complaints that get aired on this board, coupled with in many respects a badly designed front end software. If the apologists for the project team started to think about things constructively instead of defensively then the message may get back to them. |

the project NOT be bothered even giving something to us in return? They have absolutely no understanding of the concept of keeping people on side. Great but we are not 'part' of the design and implementation part of the project, we are the donkeys doing the work for nothing. We are not obliged or need to be thankful that we have been given some wonderful opportunity to let the team use of hardware for a further 4 years. We need to be motivated as well. If the team put some effort into giving us back something then all the aggravation would be worth it. They have missed one of the vital and critical parts of the project which is us data processors. They are expecting 3rd parties to fill the gaps and the system has been expressely set up with that expectation, whcih frankly is NOT good enough. The major problem is that we are also expected to trawl around the web hoping to find whatever is used to fill those gaps. Not even any form of directory or linking available on their website????? From the country that supposedly prides itself on customer service the efforts so far are pretty poor. |

This Statistics page looks like it has links to stat sites. Then there is the Boinc Websites for BOINC Participants that has more helpful pages. The informaiton is on the pages. It may take a few clicks to find the info, but it's there. My movie https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/502242 |

Hey Pooh Bear. Why bother with answering this guy? His mind is already set. Nothing you can say will change his mind. It's useless to even bother. He's been posting for about 5-6months and just about all of his posts are negative about SETI/BOINC. Does the word "troll" mean anything? |

The major problem is that we are also expected to trawl around the web hoping to find whatever is used to fill those gaps. Not even any form of directory or linking available on their website????? Yes and to find those pages we have to trawl around the bulletin boards. Simple answer if all you apologists wearing rosy-tinted glasses care to think about it is to put an information, link and download page on the project website! That way everybody can find things without going through GOOGLE. And if all you apologists actually read the negative comments they are all about IMPROVING what we are expected to use. Classic and its add-ons should have been the starting point for BOINC not going backwards. The concept of BOINC is excellent, it just hasn't been put together particularly well, and certainly has less regard for the participant experience than its predecessor. No improvements in any systemn are ever achieved by always considering the status quo as wonderful and marvellous. If there are problems (and plenty of people have raised them) then they need to be fixed, not ignored. Improvements can not be made by going into denial about the problems and faults. Complaining about those trying to move the thing forward and improve it is not really very helpful. |
