1. After your cpu (called box01) has been running steady for 2+ weeks, turn if off and remove all BOINC and SETI files. As completed workunits are processed credit will be granted and a "final" RAC for box01 will be calculated. 2. Rename the box01 cpu to something like box02 and download a complete set of new BOINC/SETI files. 3. 2+ weeks after box02 starts receiving credits, turn it off and remove all BOINC/SETI files. As uploaded box02 workunits are processed and credit granted a "final" RAC for box02 will be calculated. Note: since box01 has stopped reporting any data, the RAC for box01 will never be reduced and will show as your credit. Obviously you would not want to merge box01 and box02 computers in your account. 4. Rename the box02 cpu to something like box03 and download a complete set of new BOINC/SETI files. 5. 2+ weeks after box03 starts receiving credits, turn it off and remove all BOINC/SETI files. As uploaded box03 workunits are processed and credit granted a "final" RAC for box03 will be calculated. Note: since box01 and box02 have stopped reporting any data, the RAC credits for box01 and box02 will never be reduced and will continue show as your credit. Obviously you would not want to merge box01, box02 and box03 computers in your account. These later two steps may be repeated as often as you wish to torque the RAC score system. This approach will not increase your 'rate' of cobblepebble growth, but will allow your account to show a RAC growth rate. Have Fun, Be Safe, Enjoy! and Engage!!!! Respectifully submitted by a cruncher who is not particularly fond of the RAC approach to credit. |

What's the point? When you credits doesn't grow, you're just leaving a lot of orphan hosts on the server. I'm not certain if this comes under the cheating category or not, but it's absolutely disgusting to lead people into doing this sort of thing. I don't understand the idea or your way of thinking... |

.... Sounds a little like cheating to me. What would be the point in inflating your RAC beyond what it truly is? None! Your little scheme is illogical.... Who really cares if their RAC is low? It's the total that's impressive, not RAC... |

Uhh... yeah... SOMEONE obviously hasn't tested their theories. You go ahead and do that and report back in a month, mkay? Your RAC will not be affected in any way. A user's RAC is not the sum of the RAC of their computers. Just like a team's RAC is not the sum of the members' RAC. Each time a result is validated, its credit is added to the host's total, the users's total and the team's total seperately. RAC is also recomputed for all 3 seperately based on the current RAC, the amount of new credit and the time since RAC was last computed for that host/user/team. They are all completely independent of each other. Actually... it will affect your RAC slightly. Stopping BOINC, uninstalling, re-installing and re-attaching will take you several minutes. During that time you will have wasted billions of CPU cycles that could have gone towards finishing another work unit. So your RAC will actually drop slightly if you try to do this. Who really cares if their RAC is low? It's the total that's impressive, not RAC... I agree too Heff, a persons RAC is affected to much by Server malfunctions and other peoples ability to turn in the WU's in a timely manner. |

This IS cheating and nothing else then cheating – at least an attempt to do so. And please answer this question: Why would you like to cheat? Is it because you would like to score higher then you are entitled to, is it all about show-off? My understanding is that we do have WUs to crunch for a certain purpose so why not do just that, instead and spending time on finding ways to show-off! This is NOT a competition. Happy crunching |

What a total waste of time and efforts. Rac dosn't mean anything, It's temporary and is largely Ignored. Who are you going to impress Yourself? |

Wait so did most of the posts here. Most people here would not consider your idea a good one JTA 23112. Let alone consider it at all! Daemon |

What is interesting in reading this is the fallacy that RAC is not important. The whole idea behind RAC (and this is from the early days) is that it is the work that you are doing now that is important to a project not the work that you did 6 months ago. This was the reasoning from the boinc devs and is the sole reason why RAC was invented. I don't necessarily agree but I see their point. Live long and crunch. ps. There is another way to increase your overall RAC and it is all legit...just use the optimised boinc client and seti app. Do a wu in half the time, claim 15 cs and get granted 15 to 30...what a deal! This increases your RAC by upto 2 times! Paul (S@H1 8888) And proud of it! |

maybe I missed something in the 2 years I've been running boinc, but if you are running more than one project, RAC for a single project is completely meaningless to others. Heck, just a few days back I had a RAC of over 9000 on CP! (they's missed some credits over the last month for many users and they got granted at once.) (it's down to 3500 now) An RAC of 3500 is still an unreal value for 3 systems, but that's what Boinc reports! If I have 100,000 Seti Credits, but not processed a seti WU in the last few weeks (and my Seti RAC is next to nothing as a result), why should RAC be used for anything, as I still did nore work than someone who did 25,000 Seti Credits but has a RAC of 100? It seems to me, that RAC is only something of importance to a single user, and for a specific project. For global stats (project or boinc overall) it's meaningless... |

I'd give it a try, but your logic is flawed - The RAC won't increase, but hit an upper bound. Either way, azwoody is right on the nose: |For global stats [RAC is] meaningless. |

You're barking up the wrong tree... Read Pauls docs: "The Recent Average Credit for any computer, participant, or team is calculated every time that credit is added to that object, and also at least once a week. If it has been an entire week, the RAC for the object will be divided by 2." You're probably mislead by the wrong numbers on "Your computers", simply add all RACs there and compare it with the value on "Your account". |

It also says in there (or it SHOULD) that the facility to re-calculate for the week is not operational ... the stat sites though do update the numbers as they get them ... |
