I'm curious! Oh, and please don't take this the wrong way. Your first post in these fora was 22 days ago. How long have you been doing BOINC? I noticed that you passed me up a couple days ago and was wondering how. I have no way of knowing what your credits were 22 days ago....

The only facts I have against me is that I'm crunching more than one BOINC project on 1 computer, and right now my second box isn't crunching exclusively SETI, yet [it will].
My analysis:

  • If all you're crunching is SETI, on 1 fast computer, I'd say, maybe yes.
  • If all you're crunching is SETI, on more than 1 computer, I'd say, yes.
  • If you're crunching multiple projects, on 1 computer, I'd say, no.
  • If you're crunching multiple projects, on more than 1 computer [2 or 3], hmmmm...., I'd say, maybe, but I doubt it.
  • If you're running with a bank of computers, say 5 or more, and multiple projects, I'd say, maybe yes.

Judging from your RAC, I would say you're running exclusively SETI, or you have a number of computers at you disposal. Without a stats graphic that shows multiple projects, I have no idea what you're crunching.

Just curious.... >:-)

I suppose an explanation of the team name is in order.

See, when I first joined Seti, I was part of this team:

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/team_display.php?teamid=30364

There was a member therein who ran some computing lab somewhere and thought he'd be doing everyone a favor if he pitched credits into their accounts. And when he was asked to stop by a few of us, his reply was a bit of indignation and a bit of confusion. He simply could not understand why anyone would not want a few credits pitched into their accounts. And he continued adding credits to my account.

It really galled me on several levels.

And thus, I formed my own team.

I crunch for Seti exclusively on more than one machine. I don't put my stats graphic on every post (at least I try to remember not to) because it just seems obnoxious.

Ok, I see you have a multi-project stats graphic and you ARE crunching exclusively SETI. That satisfies most, if not all, of my curiosity.... >:-)

Way to go TG!

I think the vast majority of people out there think in the very same terms as you do TG. They want to see the credits they crunched for, not someone else's credits added to theirs. Personal pride in one's accomplishments is something a few out there don't still don't understand it seems.

I only have two PC's crunching currenly and even though my numbers aren't the greatest, I'm damn proud of them as they are what I accomplished with my own equipment. Lately I've been focusing more on Predictor@Home than on Seti so my Seti numbers have crawled to a snail's pace. I'd love to see my numbers on Seti go higher but I'd still be royally PO'd if someone started dumping credits in my Seti account that I didn't crunch myself. I made the choice to concentrate most of my effort for a period of time on another project and don't need supplimental credits from someone else.

Soooo you have joined the ranks of us "farmers"! WELCOME you will be sooo frustrated at times, networking can be a VERY tough and PICKY thing, BUT you will also be VERY satisfied as the different computers come together and finally start to do what you want them to do. I also started out with just one computer, it is called Boinc1 now and is offline until I get a new power supply for it. ALL the rest of my computers AND even that one are either bought VERY cheaply or hand-me-downs or computers that were given to me for fixing other peoples computers. I LIKE fixing computers and do it for MANY people but all I charge is the money for the parts that need replacing. I then keep the old parts my payment. Sooo when I convince someone they need a new computer I get an old box with cpu and power supply and ram in it. Then I help them buy a barebones machine and we move all of their old stuff over and I get a new Seti/Boinc machine. I have thrown out more than 6 or 8 that are just too slow and my space is getting limited, I currently have 20 running here at home, ALL crunching either Classic or Boinc. I used to do Einstein units and may again but right now I am only doing Seti units under boinc.
My computers are NOT hidden because I do not have anything to hide and I like looking at other peoples computers to get an idea of how they are getting so much RAC. I also like to see how computers that are like mine are doing. It would be a bit hypocritical to look at other peoples computers and then not let them look at mine.
I am NOT in it for the credits, but must admit I do like to see them go up and when mine go down I try to figure out if it is me or Berkeley that is having the problem. If Berkeley truned the credits off right now I would STILL crunch for them!! I BELIEVE in the project!
I run a small program besides Classic or Boinc on all of my computers, RAdmin, that lets me sit at my main computer, an AMD64 3200+, and then log onto each of my other computers and be able to actually see the screen and do things as though I were sitting in front of that computer.

....

My problem isn't with the networking, that works just fine. I'm running FreeBSD on this box and cannot get BOINC to attach properly. SETI isn't getting the hostname or host IP address for whatever reason. I haven't worked with it for a few weeks now. But, I'm not going to give up on it. I will get it attached and crunching.... >:-)
