PZ, have you ever read a report on al qaeda prisoners saying, "Oh we love american prisons! Allah bless America!" No? Then it's no small wonder they say all the negative things they can about it. In fact, that's what our own jailed inmates say. Yet the media doesn't seem to care about that. |

LONDON, England (CNN) -- A London hospital has two new members of staff -- two robotic "doctors" that can carry out ward rounds in place of human physicians. The robots will be trialed in a general surgery ward and the accident and emergency department at St Mary's Hospital. They will also be used for surgical training for junior doctors at London's Imperial College. Called "Remote Presence," or RP6 for short, the robots stand in for a human doctor, who controls the machine remotely. The robots, which cost £50,000 ($88,000) each, operate with a wireless-based system, using a broadband Internet connection. They allow two-way, audio-visual interaction between doctor and patient to take place in real-time. Project leader Parv Sains, who is Research Fellow at Imperial College, said the robots enabled patients to have access to specialists without the patient or the doctor having to be physically near each other. "If a specialist is at a conference in California but their medical opinion is needed for a St Mary's patient or to deliver a lecture to junior doctors, the RP6 robot provides an instant and global link at any time of the day or night," Sains said. The specialist controls the robot off-site using a joystick, and is in full control of the robot's movements, head monitor and camera. The doctor can see the patient, ask questions, read patient records, view X-rays and test results from a console. The patient, meanwhile, can see the human doctor on a screen on the robot's "face." The robot does not physically examine the patient, but it allows face-to-face contact between doctor and patient, Sains said. "Our robots certainly would never replace all doctors on ward rounds, but they are a communication tool, which allows a doctor to have direct contact with their patient if they are unable to get to them." The technology has been developed by California-based company InTouch Health. Three of the robots have already been piloted in the U.S. and one in Strasbourg, France. St Mary's is the first hospital in the United Kingdom to pilot the system. Professor Sir Ara Darzi, head of Imperial College's Division of Surgery, Anesthetics and Intensive Care and a surgeon at St Mary's, lead the move to bring the robots to the UK. "This is a revolutionary concept which opens new avenues for telemedicine research and integrates technology with healthcare at a grass roots level, increasing the interface between patients, clinicians and teaching staff," he said. As part of the pilot, a study is being conducted to evaluate how patients respond to the robots. Ian Pearson, futurologist for British Telecom, told CNN that robots are already having a big impact in healthcare, and will do so even more in future. "What the machines are starting to do is advanced reporting and doing things like brain surgery and hip replacement because they are more precise than a human surgeon. So where extreme precision is required, doctors are already being replaced by high-end robotics," he said. "Gradually, in 2020, I would expect that you would be able to get a direct diagnosis from an AI (artificial intelligence) system which will go straight through to an AI-based chemist which will check that the drugs are compatible and you will get your prescription -- probably with minimal human intervention." |

Misfit- If you'd ever spent any time locked down you'd know that most prisoners consider themselves innocent Or just the getaway-car driver...etc...ad nausem But regardless, to a man they've been accused of some crime Recently the US had started locking folks down Without bothering to charge them with any wrongdoing Except maybe somebody thinks they might be bad guys There is a very big difference...cc |

In fact, that's what our own jailed inmates say. Yet the media doesn't seem to care about that. You've not been paying attention, misfit. Looking at pictures and reading the cartoons probably leaves you with a certain constricted view of the reality of what's been going on in the prisons we operate.... no small wonder...... ....you sound like a small wonder with that kind of dismissive statement about what's transpired in our prisons in Afghanistan, Iraq and Gitmo. Forget what happens in the prisons of our own country, there's no comparison. .... small wonder, eh?. |

Whinning? Whinnying like a horse? or braying like a donkey? or 'whining'? ************************************************** What you quite evidently can't ascertain is that there wasn't one of my opinions offered... It wasn't my 'opinion' that I posted...... can't you read either? I posted a simple US State Department report. The 'opinion' is that of US Air Force General Myers and U.S. Army Lieutenant General Karl Eikenberry. So, your question makes no sense.. what the hell are you on about? .....disagree with 'my' opinion..... huh? Try to find someone to help you with reading the posts .... maybe,...... have them explain things for you.... then you won't ask dumb questions.... |

It's your reading skills that are in question. You have very selective reading. You post only things that seem to support your rather one sides narrow minded opinions and leave out the facts that do not support that opinion. When you posts are challenged you start whining. You make sarcastic remarks like above and then when YOUR child like behavior is brought forth you whin again about how disresperctful others are to you. Your true colors are starting to show Paul. |

You have some type of conflicting facts to contribute....... ?? Let's see 'em. Got a source in mind? Maybe you could find that link I've been looking for..... ? The one that proves GW has at least one of the major policy decision that he's promoted and requested that didn't turn out to be something quite different than what he promised.... Let's see... Medicaid? No. Social Security? No. Tax cuts? No. Afghanistan? No. Iraq? No. No Child Left Behind? No. Homeland Security? No. Farm subsidies? No. Mars? I bet it was Mars..... Feel free to post your links here, cw. Facts are a good thing.... let's see them. |

I wasn't talking about President Bush.. I was talking about you. All one has to do is look back through all of your posts and see how biased you are. You are on a one man compaign to turn a science forum into a political platform for your opinions.. I don't always support what our President is doing, but I don't rehash the same crap over and over and over to the same audience. The only thread that you ever posted that was not a direct or veiled attack on the President was your thread on Fishing.. Get a clue.. We got your point. You don't like President Bush's Policies. Now move on to other topics. Quit regailing us with the same rehashed antiquated rethoric.. Since you like to dominate the forum at least participate in the science this board is supposed to support. I would bet we could even find you a FREE copy of the OS that will run BOINC. Ohhhh wait you already ignored that offer once.. |

If you are thinking of the kind offer from NA, I'll say, as far as I know him, that that offer is long overdue! "I'm trying to maintain a shred of dignity in this world." - Me |

See, this is what I've said all along: you do not understand English. Every one of those things you mentioned you followed with an opinion, not a fact. You have been trying for a very long time to trap someone into stating their own opinion that one or all of these policies has been a success, just so you could disagree. But none of those policies can be shown to be a success or failure by simple facts and figures because they all depend on a person' subjective view of whether the results were acceptable or not. For example: I can point to elections in Afghanistan, removal of the Taliban, destruction of terrorist training camps, etc. and say that is a success. Then you will say that some soldiers were killed, some disgruntled former Taliban official is in jail, etc. and say this proves it to be a failure. So, what is the point? We can each agree on the facts and we will never agree on the result. So, shut up about no one proving that your president's policies have been successful--NO ONE IS FALLING FOR YOUR TRAP. Get that through your drug addled brain. |

Feel free to post your links here, cw. Facts are a good thing.... let's see them. Well now. You have finally said something that makes some logical sense: "Facts are a good thing....". So Paully-PooZ, where are you facts? All you show are links to bulls&^t made up by some disreputable source. Let's see some REAL FACTS!
