Message 2078580 - Posted: 25 Jun 2021, 0:46:54 UTC - in response to Message 2078576.

[@Everyone]
Found that keeping Win 10 Pro as "Startup Disk" in the Mac Startup Parameters has wonky issues now with the El Capitan newly cloned SSD.
If I hit and hold "Option" during bootup to get the Available Bootable Disk List, then select El Capitan, I keep getting a "No Entry" sign.
However; IF I change the "Default" "Startup Disk" to El Capitan, then El Capitan's SSD boots no problem.

So, for now, I have El Cap as the Primary Boot Device. NOW, I have to hold "Option" to get to boot Win 10 Pro. Thankfully, Win 10's SSD has no
issues with the "Option Menu" and boots properly from the Menu List.
TL

Have had similar issues on a real Mac. Boot loader may think you are trying to do an end run around security. IE boot into a place where you have access to what it thinks should be a password protected drive. In my case I had two copies of the same O/S on different drives. Could not boot into the other unless I went to a different version first. PITA, but I get it. No more have the computer and boot from an external to steal from the internal.

Glad to know it's NOT just me.... Strange, though, when El Cap was on the original 3TB HDD, I COULD leave Win 10 as "Startup Disk", and "Option" into El Cap on a whim.... ONLY AFTER getting El Cap onto SSD, (cloned from 3TB Drive), did the problem occur.

Message 2078582 - Posted: 25 Jun 2021, 1:43:38 UTC

I just have a few PCs to eventually work on or pay someone to work on, since I can't stand for very long anymore, just bringing in and putting away 12 bags of groceries took more than 1 hour recently in 100 degree temps.

My main win7 pc needs a cpu swap(1650v2 to 1660v2), a video card swap(1-1660Ti to a 3060), a pc case swap to a better case, and a 90 degree connector installed on a usb 3.0 cable and installed under a 1660Ti video card, the better case has a different power supply or should if the case is empty.
My 2nd win7 pc needs a video card swap(1-970 to 2-1660Ti), files copied to an ssd.
3rd PC needs the 1650 installed and video card hooked to power, install win10 and an ssd.
4th PC needs a 1660Ti installed along with win10 and an ssd.
5th PC needs the motherboard converted back to air and worked on to be made ready for 2 video cards, use a 970 video card for a win10 install to an ssd.

I do have the parts of course. The current PCs case is a piece of crap, getting the DVD drive out will be fun as the drive is tightly wedged in the case and the screws are there for looks only and the 1050w psu is to be removed so the case can be thrown out since I don't have much room here, it's a good spare psu.

If I do anything to mine it will be a complete upgrade. What it morphs into I have no idea. Just would like something that would handle boinc projects better and AMD.

Anyhow now that Friday night has turned into Saturday morning I'm off to bed.

Cheers.

Threaded or tethered?...

Meanwhile, no sun, no shine,

Just never ending cloud and drizzle.

It is 9:15 am here. But across the planet it is late.
Have decided to use my health insurance. I have a patch about the size of my palm above my right ankle. It is weeping some and has a variable ouch level between 0 to 6 with a occasional zap to 8. Going to urgent care in a bit. I don’t want to wait for a doctors appointment in a week or better. For those across the pond. I looked up a definition for Urgent Care. If your leg or arm is sore and swollen, go to an urgent care center; if you have chest pain, shortness of breath or you're coughing up blood, get to an emergency room.

Just tried to run a pre-release of Windows 11. My poor old computer couldn't. Looks like I will need to upgrade hardware if I want to upgrade to Windows 11.

NO TPM = No Win11 from what I've read, all my motherboards are without any TPM capability, so Win10 is the end of the line.

The Toshiba laptop? I've no idea and it has Win10 on it already.

The longest power outage in the park lasted 19 hours which was caused by an electrical transformer, though I doubt there was even 1000 people living here then.
