Colour me dumb, but am I reading this right?

Shutdown laptop (ID 8899358} early this morning with the tasks running showing approx. 83%.
Booting up approx. 1 hour ago, tasks started from 0% (now at 16% approx.)
On desktop, tasks continue from where they left off.

Check your configuration settings for the laptop. See if it has local preferences set and no or a very long checkpoint interval. Or possibly it picked up web preferences from another project that does not have a checkpoint set. Also was this on a cpu task or gpu task?

What is the last option "Request tasks to checkpoint at most every" in the BOINC client - Options - Computing Preferences screen?

Let's be certain that this was a SETI task? They're usually OK, depending on the settings that others have mentioned. But other projects may not checkpoint so regularly, and some don't checkpoint at all.

8899358 tasks
Only running Seti on web prefs which I've not changed since 13/2/19 & that was to reduce the cache.
Checkpointing every 60 secs.

The stock client interval is 60 seconds. But as Richard said, some projects don't checkpoint at all. It depends on the science application whether it checkpoints.

I realise that, but who has mentioned other projects?
Something is wrong,
It is a dual core & of the 2 tasks that hit 83% yesterday morning before shutdown, 1 has completed & validated last night. The 2nd is now at 59+%, why has that not completed & why start again from 0% for both tasks?

Hi Keith,

All of mine are set at 600 secs. Even the web preference is at 600 secs. I don't remember ever changing it. My old laptop is running stock because it has to and it is at 600 secs ( probably because of the web preferences).

Would it be wise to reduce that amount?

Have a great day! :)

Desktop on booting up, continued from where it left off & several tasks have completed.
Yet the laptop, as one can see...

Could it be that client thinks that your laptop 'switch off' is laptop 'sleep' and therefore doesn't need to save position.

But why it doesn't checkpoint is baffling.

Not sure WK. I have Boinc stop running the app when exiting, then I shutdown the rigs.
IIRC, some time in the past this was happening to many & again iirc, many aborted the tasks. Not sure what to do, so suspended both tasks, since that time, been running okay. Will wait until all tasks completed then have those 2 resume, if they still continue to avoid checkpointing, will just have to abort them.
