Attendee at CPAC meeting is also infected
An attendee at the Conservative Political Action Conference — a major annual right-wing gathering held in Maryland this February and attended by President Trump — tested positive Saturday for the novel coronavirus, the host organization said as the U.S. death toll rose to 19.

The White House is aware of the patient, and “at this time there is no indication that either President Trump or Vice President Pence met with or were in close proximity to the attendee,” press secretary Stephanie Grisham said.

Also, considering Trump's vast knowledge it is strange that he doesn't know that 10's of thousands die each year from flu and even more shocking that he doesn't know that his Grandfather died in the "Spanish Flu" pandemic in 1918.
No wonder that the White House response to the coronavirus threat has been so poor and too late.

Trump apparently liked this. he tweeted, “Who knows what this means, but it sounds good to me!”

He might want to go read up on his history. It wasn't good for Nero.

An understanding that they do not have a candidate for President that will probably beat Trump?

How do you understand that?

"President Donald Trump, in a meeting with Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill Tuesday, pitched a 0% payroll tax rate that would last through the rest of this year"

"Payroll taxes are paid by employers and employees. They are used to fund Social Security, Medicare."

"During his Fox News town hall on Thursday night, President Donald Trump said he planned to propose cuts to government benefit programs like Medicare and Social Security in his second term."

Yes, Trump to end Social Security and Medicare, effective immediately. After all without taxes to pay for them they have to stop NOW!

Republican billionaire greed, take away your pension plan and your medical insurance after you paid for it! And they already took away your Obamacare.

Its the economy stupid!

Yes, like his six bankruptcies. I get it, he wants the biggest bankruptcy of all time as his record, the Social Security Trust Fund! Number 7. Medicare will just come along for a ride and make number 8. Anyone know if he likes lists of ten? Any guesses on number 9 and number 10?

Stock market plummets. Statistics from the company Nasdaq, which owns the Stockholm stock exchange and which shows that the stock exchange race in recent weeks has caused the stock market to lose more than USD 200 billion in value. On February 19, the total market capitalization was just over USD 0.8 trillion. Since then, the stock market has lost just over a quarter of its value.
Donald Trump's speech on Wednesday night had one purpose: to calm the stock markets. A message was expected about how much money would be invested in lifting the effects of the corona virus in the United States. Instead, Donald Trump escalated the panic that has gripped the markets in recent weeks.
Instead of concrete measures and stimulus packages, the markets received a nationalist talk about closing the borders to Europe. It helps very little in a country with more then 300 million people who tested fewer than 5,000 people, where a test costs $ 1,500 to buy and where many lack health insurance.

WaPO report on Science Editorial.
3:17 p.m.
Scientific journal editor rebukes Trump’s virus response

In a blistering editorial published Wednesday, the editor in chief of one of the U.S.’s top academic journals accused President Trump of “distorting the science” around the coronavirus even as he demands a vaccine faster than is scientifically possible.

“You can’t insult science when you don’t like it and then suddenly insist on something that science can’t give on demand,” wrote H. Holden Thorp, a chemist who has helmed the Science family of journals since last year.

It was an unusually strong rebuke from the typically apolitical scientific community, which has shied away from direct criticism of the president even as it condemned his efforts to cut research funding.

The White House’s most recent budget request, issued in February, sought to slash the Centers for Disease Control budget by 16 percent while cases of the coronavirus were already emerging in the U.S. Analyses by The Washington Post have found that more than 1,600 federal scientists left government since Trump took office, and health agencies’ response to the coronavirus is being hampered by shortages of staff and funds.

Thorp pointed out that Trump has rejected the established science of climate change and given credence to the widely discredited theory that vaccines cause autism.

And in the midst of the epidemic, Thorp said, the administration has “blocked” or “distorted” scientific facts about the virus, particularly in regards to how soon a vaccine would be available. Public health experts, including immunologist Anthony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health, have said deployment of a vaccine is more than a year away.

At a meeting of the nation’s top officials this month, Trump said he had told pharmaceutical executives: “Do me a favor, speed it up.”

“Do us a favor, Mr. President,” Thorp wrote. “If you want something, start treating science and its principles with respect.”

Trump speaks to the nation and the nation responded. Another great win for Trump.

Reminds me of a whole bunch of folks who were just as overconfident about a certain female candidate's certainty a few years ago.... hmmm.

Sometimes it's best to be hopeful rather than sure of things that haven't happened yet....

And so the opportunists in the Congress try to attach their little pet funding schemes to any effort to help in the crisis. The vultures circle and dream of cleaning the bones of the opposition instead of coming together and uniting against the common foe, pestilence.

The 'Pox' they have wished on each other's houses has arrived and they dance with glee.

All things pass. This too will pass and perhaps it will be remembered who sharpened their swords instead of offering aid.

Perhaps it won't.
