There are also problems for (relatively) nearby Burundi. Nkurunziza death: Burundi court rules to end power vacuum The BBC is being coy in print concerning whether the President's death can be attributed to covid-19: Did he have coronavirus? But I've heard one BBC broadcast report that they dispatched a helicopter to bring a ventilator to help treat the President, but it arrived too late to save him. As the broadcast said, if there are so few ventilators available that even the President doesn't have access to one, what hope is there for the general population? |

Hopefully, we will indeed see some good come from the recovery from the Coronavirus pandemic: Dalai Lama: Seven billion people 'need a sense of oneness' wrote: The leader of Tibetan Buddhism sees reasons for optimism even in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. Some recent developments regarding prevention/cure outside of hospital.... Old polio vaccine could offer some protection from coronavirus, University of Maryland experts expect https://www.baltimoresun.com/coronavirus/bs-hs-polio-vaccine-for-coronavirus-20200612-xjszq7fqjnejpb6vfhfavxnneq-story.html Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) said on Wednesday that it will start human trials of its COVID-19 vaccine as early as in the second half of July. The Phase 1/2 human clinical trial of its investigational SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, also known as Ad26.COV2-S, was scheduled to begin in September.https://www.yahoo.com/news/j-j-brings-human-trial-181130601.html The first company to start human clinical trials of its coronavirus vaccine candidate in the United States — Moderna MRNA — has informed that it is on schedule to initiate the final-stage clinical trial by July. The last stage that will be arranged in partnership with the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) would involve 30,000 participants in the United States and use a 100-microgram dose of the vaccine. https://www.nasdaq.com/articles/moderna-a-step-closer-to-coronavirus-vaccine%3A-etfs-to-gain-2020-06-13 Coronavirus vaccine: Human trials advance, Army selects top drug candidate https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/coronavirus-vaccine-human-trials-advance-army-selects-top-drug-candidate-n1230186 "Sour Grapes make a bitter Whine." <(0)> |

Many are now questioning Brazil's figures since Brazil's President pulled his Trump like stunt back on the 6th of June and independent reports from within the country are saying that the numbers of new cases should be at least 10,000 higher than what is being currently reported and daily deaths at least 1,000 higher considering new cases before the 6th were continually increasing past 30,000 new cases and 1,500 daily deaths, but the president continues playing the problem down with his, "it's just a bad flu", line. :-( Estimates put their total cases at around 1 million and the death toll well over 50,000 now. :-O |

Wuhan 2.0? WHO Secretary-General Tedros Ghebreyesus announced during Monday's press conference that China's capital Beijing has 100 new confirmed cases in recent days. The new cases are being traced to Asia's largest food market. "Beijing is facing an explosive and concentrated outbreak, despite the national epidemic being basically halted," China's chief epidemiologist Wu Zunyou told People's Daily magazine. Beijing authorities say that the virus that caused the new outbreak is of a different type from the original outbreak and is likely to have the same gene strain as the virus that ravaged Europe in recent months. It is still unclear whether the virus type has spread to Beijing via travel or food transport. According to the Nationalist Chinese newspaper Global Times, traces of the virus should have been found on cutting boards used for imported salmon. The reports that imported food may have spread the infection have driven the thesis that the virus does not originate in China but should instead have been received by foreigners. |

But Denmark, Austria, Norway, Finland, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and most other countries that have reopened classrooms haven’t had outbreaks in schools or day-care centers…This is a lie as we're finding a lot of new cases through testing at schools here in Australia, 2-3 schools are closed each week here for cleansing after finding new cases. Is it a thinking person's guide?I agree. |

Dexamethasone is first life-saving coronavirus drug A cheap and widely available drug called dexamethasone can help save the lives of patients who are seriously ill with coronavirus. Repeat because it was in a "Quote" post replying to an original, that has been hidden. |

There are currently early trials in progress in several countries including the France, USA & UK. It would appear that the drug companies & research organisations and not necessarily governments have co-ordinated among themselves to try different approaches thus avoiding unnecessary duplication of effort. Initial reports are indicating that some of these vaccines may be more effective than others, but it is still fat too early to actually say "this one work long-term". China, or more particularly Beijing. One of my Chinese colleagues, who lives in/near Beijing said just over a week ago that the authorities believer they had Covid-19 under control, and the feeling among the people was much the same. A couple of days he said it was a shock to everyone to find this very sudden outbreak in the city with, more or less over night, the count went from near zero to over a hundred - a step change, not a gradual ramping up. I think this indicates a single source person or object, who in that very crowded city acted as a "hyper spreader" rather than a number of spreaders. Knowing the way people move in that city I am not surprised that it is relatively localised in "only" 27 areas (I can't recall how many areas the city has, but it is certainly way more than that, probably around 250 to 300). I've heard one BBC radio report, but not confirmed as yet, that many of the new cases around the world involve a second, mutated, variation of the SARS-cov 2 virus. And that this new mutation may be more infectious than the first. One website which has a write-up is https://arstechnica.com/science/2020/06/mutation-may-be-helping-coronavirus-spread-more-readily/ |

China, or more particularly Beijing.Apparently the geno type of this latest outbreak in China is of the European strain and not the original local strain according to latest reports over the TV news here ATM. Another than that claim the World has now passed 8.2 million cases and 446,000 deaths of which the U.S. makes up over 2.2 million cases and over 119.000 deaths of those. Brazil actually reported a number more inline with what is currently expected (but how many got left out?) as they pass 900,000 reported cases and over 45,000 reported deaths. While Russia clocked up over 550,000 cases, Peru is set to take Italy's 7th place, Iran knocked Germany out of 9th spot and Chile is set to make that 10th spot short lived while Mexico and Pakistan are in a race to see who knocks France out of 13th place. Bangladesh is set to knock Canada out of 17th spot while becoming the 17th country to pass 100,000 reported cases. Qatar is set to put China into 20th place while South Africa will be lining them next. Colombia has force Sweden back down to 25th place while Singapore and Indonesia become the 30th and 31st to clock up 40,000 cases. Meanwhile South Korea is now down to 58th spot, Australia to 69th, N.Z. to 110th and Vietnam down to 156th by total cases. |

World wide cases have passed 8.5 million while deaths pass 450,000 of which the U.S. accounts for 2.25 million cases and over 120,000 deaths. :-O The U.K. has become the 5th country to record over 300,000 cases, Pakistan and Mexico have dumped France back to 15th place, Canada became the 18th country to record 100,000 cases (but not before Bangladesh passed them) and South Africa knocked China out of 20th place. Meanwhile Japan is now down to 51st spot, South Korea down to 58th, Australia is down to 70th (though south of the border in Victoria they still can't seem to keep things under control) and New Zealand is down to 113th. |

If all things were equal this page would look more like this page. Obviously if your country's cases ranking is above their population ranking then there's a sure sign that something isn't right (unless you're a 3rd world country where 1 would expect things to be worse naturally) and you would also think that 1st world countries should be doing a lot better than many others, but this certainly isn't the case being shown by some. You can play with your numbers as much as you like, but that's the simple basic fact of this matter, whether you like it or not. |

All this comparing between countries is ridiculous. Try comparing regions instead and it all become VERY different. For an example compare Copenhagen with a lockdown and Malmö with a "laxed" lockdown, two cities only separated with a bridge. Many more people die in Copenhagen then in Malmö. Why is that? In the US many more people die in New York and New Jersey then other states in the US. Why is that? In Stockholm there are many more people dying than in the county Västerbotten. Why is that? All examples is of course death rates counted per capita. |

Yes. Here is a view of how the the corona is spread in Sweden. Very big differences between regions. And it's the same pattern in all countries, including the US. |

Let us take 2 countries that are both 1st world countries and both are a federation of states, now lets take 1 of the better states of 1. Let's say West Virginia for example, population around 1,792,000 with 2,418 reported cases and 88 deaths. Now for the current problem state here. Victoria, population around 6.359 million with 1741 reported cases and just 19 deaths. Now for my state, that suffered the Ruby Princess debacle (which has worse numbers than the Diamond Princess that is listed) and has our worst numbers here. New South Wales, population around 7.544 million with 3134 reported cases and 48 deaths. Now 1 country quietly goes along looking after its population while the other is relentlessly in the news for mostly all the wrong reasons and mainly for its disregard to life, why is there such a difference between the 2 countries when both have British Empire penal colony pasts? |
