As I have stated earlier this is like living in a bad science fiction movie.

Coronavirus: Meat shortage leaves US farmers with 'mind-blowing' choice
The United States faces a major meat shortage due to virus infections at processing plants. It means millions of pigs could be put down without ever making it to table. This is what the predicament looks like on a Minnesota farm.

Just in time ordering and production.

Wonder what noise PETA will make over this?

Maybe the farmers could ask the members of PETA and the Humane Society where they want a gift of 1,000 piglets for each member sent.

A very low testing rate when compared to many other countries. ;-)
But that's not true either.
The jersey leader in the Tour de Corona testing rate competition is still the Faeroe Islands.
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/
The US is behind in some 30'ish place or something just behind Canada and before Greenland competing with 212 countries and territories around the world and 2 international conveyances..
Belgium has a big a lead to the US but as for Sweden we are far behind.

Some may need a lengthy explanation.

Excellent post, shows it is almost impossible to compare numbers. And the true numbers will not be revealed until months after this is all over and analysis of all the reasons for deaths is known.

IMHO non of these numbers are accurate and comparing them leads to false beliefs. As in the case of the Veep, who thinks cases have peaked in the US, when all indications, if you take out New York City and the close surrounding area, and possibly Washington State, the cases are still rising in the rest of the US.

Forgive me for quoting myself, but Time have the numbers for "New York" and "The Rest of the US"
https://time.com/5832365/new-york-covid-cases-us/, NY going down, the rest inching up.

The article is too lengthy to many politicians and even some world leaders...
But it explains very clearly the situation.
The reality is that there are no vaccines to the public for many months, more like a year or more...
From my understanding virus vaccines against seasonal flu are not even full proof and only less then 50% get immunity.
So I think we all have to get through this pandemic in a heard. But it seems like many of us are already in the heard flattening the curve when looking to the stats. Hopefully...

Money, Money, Money, its a rich man's world.
Kings County Supervisor Doug Verboon said 138 employees tested positive for the virus.

"There's always people working side by side and there's no such thing as six foot distancing, and very rarely did I see anybody wearing masks," the worker said. "I could probably count it on my one hand, people wearing masks."

Company employs 900.
138/900 = 16%

More on the numbers of excess number of deaths can be seen at the FT https://www.ft.com/content/a26fbf7e-48f8-11ea-aeb3-955839e06441

What is odd is that some countries are reporting only slight increases, Denmark, Germany, and even more odd some countries reporting below average, Israel, Norway.

If ever, many countries will never ever know how many died before they started counting, also unless every country starting counting on the same day, in the exact same way comparisons are meaningless.

Also to compare current numbers, all countries must now be counting from the exact same data, which I do not believe they are, also some countries will purposely "fudge" figures to get the result they want, so in reality the whole debate is based on numbers no one can verify, and probably never will.

Its replacement will be able to handle pandemics much better & without such high fatalities?

The bar has been set so low by WHO and it's supporters, 'better' is not hard to achieve.

The current US administration has simply removed the bar.

Some neighboring countries to Sweden say we are experimenting handling the pandemic.
Norway is about to celebrate their national holiday on May 17 " Syttende Mai," and Norway will stop their "lockdown" accordingly .
Anders Tegnell, state epidemiologist of Sweden says how he sees about that.
- It's an interesting experiment. There has been a lot of talk about experiments in different ways and this is probably a variant of it as there are quite a few who have been ill in Norway. So it is a little difficult to know what happens when you gather a lot of people in one place, says Anders Tegnell.

Welcome to the herd.
The vast majority of the population have to go through being contracted to the Corona virus anyway. Lockdown or not lockdown. But for now keep social distancing until the magic vaccine has been devolved. That will take at least a year or so...

On May 5 on my way back from my doctors office I passed by a couple of Mexican restaurants and noticed the parking lots were full. It appears that many of those who like to celebrate cinco de mayo were thowing caution to the wind and partying anyway. I noticed today at the Florida covid 19 information web page that there was a spike on the 6th of newly reported cases. I think that unless officials plan to keep us at home until a vaccine is developed all restrictions should be terminated. We are all grown up men and women and enough information is out there for us to make our own decisions about where to go and whom to see. Personally I will be continuing as usual, meaning I stay home 99% of the time and only go out for groceries , doctor's appointments and taking my dog to the dog park. I will be wearing my mask if conditions look too crowded.

Mamma just killed a man
I didn't stay inside my bed
I walked by him and now he's dead.

Mama, just killed a nursing home, walked by a nurse, now they're all dead.

It isn't the person making the choice to run out and perhaps catch it that is the problem. The problem is the person who doesn't know they have it spreading it far and wide.

This boils down to empathy. Do you care about your fellow man or are you selfish? This is the major difference between the political parties in this country.
What value do you place on life. Do you have different values for your own life and other humans lives?

This virus became real for me around the end of March when the calls started at work. Hospitals were calling begging and pleading for refrigerated spaces. About 2 by 2 by 6 feet. Price no object.
They are overflowing. It hasn't let up. Yes, just a short walk from the desk is a glow in the dark hot zone.

If estimates are right that about 5% have caught it by now, then we have 95% to go. What would be the disaster from hell is if the other 95% got it all at once. If they catch it over the next couple of years we will be okay. Flatten the curve.
