Message 2038117 - Posted: 15 Mar 2020, 18:45:48 UTC - in response to Message 2038093.

I arrived via Chicago O'Hare International in July last year, and it was bad enough then. In addition, the inter-terminal mass transit system (required for boarding either connecting internal flights, or ground transport into the city) was being 'modernised' by complete demolition and re-building. Take your luggage on board the shuttle bus service instead. Not a good image for a first-world country.

So sorry about your experience at the Richard Daley and Sons, Co. "Chicago O'Hare International Airport", however such sub-par experiences are common at Richard Daley and Sons, Co. facilities as much of the labor was supplied by Jimmy Hoffa. ;-)

If it's true, that's properly disgusting (but I wouldn't put it past him): Trump offers 'large sums' for exclusive access to coronavirus vaccine.

The only question in my mind is this a new record for disgusting behavior from Trump?

The EU is also taking the hard line.

The European Union has announced a series of measures to pool resources among its 27 members in order to help to fight coronavirus and protect national health services across the Continent.

The president of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, said the aim was to ramp up the production of protective equipment like masks and suits, and to prevent it being exported outside of the bloc without authorisation from EU governments.

Under the measures, equipment would be shared across EU members instead of each country making it for their own use.

Looks like Britain will also be at the back of the queue:-(

I think it's later been clarified that we'll be OK until 31 December, under the transition agreement.

But next year, all bets are off...

Many other players in the game. I'd chosen a route with 'pre-boarding immigration clearance' (Dublin). We were delayed for connecting flights, then the weather changed and we were 'too heavy for takeoff' (!). Only way to reduce weight - sit on a deserted part of the airport and burn fuel for an hour (!!).

So we arrived at the same time as another wide-bodied, intercontinental flight - with wide-bodied, intercontinental luggage. There's only one baggage carousel for the 'pre-clearance' channel at O'Hare - and it's in a narrow, airless, basement. Thank goodness coronavirus wasn't circulating then.

Saw the original report (live I think) on BBC news, found only that single mention on their web pages and it went rather quiet after that.

Combine that with all the reporting of trying to get firms over here to manufacturer ventilators, most of which are normally made within the EU.

I was possibly adding 2 + 2 together and making 5.

Since we have no knowledge what the death rate, over the next few weeks/months in the USA, will be. The future will disclose which side is correct

Jeez O Flip Broheim. Deaths are Very Low. During a time before Social Distancing; Precautions; Closings and beginning of increased testing. When dA CV was/is having free reign. In dA WILD. Before this SUPERPanic.

If Deaths are Very Low during a time when CV had OPEN Doors(Bodies) - Deaths will be Very Very Very LOW as Everything Closes to its 'InFLUence.

Man O Live.

This CV is NOT what dA Panic Merchants are Selling to Everyone.

Yes. ALL Measures Done and Being Done are Important. However, because of Legal Concerns(Always da BIGGIE); Peoples Reputations; Credibility: Keeping their Jobs; Future Kudos; Awards; Promotions; VOTEs if a Pol; and ALL dat Kind of Achievement Wins.

This is a Major Life Game of Saving Your Asses.

All based on Very Very Very Few Infections and same for Deaths.

Looks like I may be locked up, Coronavirus: Isolation for over-70s 'within weeks'
Looks like it'll be 4 months of self isolation. For those that breach the Health Protection (Coronavirus) Regulation 2020, it'll be a level 3 hit to the wallet (£1000).
Those that don't pay the fine, will be sent to prison, had to laugh at that bit. :-)
It was mentioned earlier today that early release of prisoners will be considered to free up more space.
Hmm, is that to give distancing for those remaining inside, or room for those don't pay their fines?

Meanwhile elsewhere...
The state-run Global Times has reported about a petition on the White House website urging the US government to release more information on the suspension of an infectious disease research lab under the Pentagon.
The Global Times noted that Chinese internet users and experts are calling for more information on whether The Fort Detrick laboratory was linked to the novel coronavirus, citing coincidental events between the lab’s closure and the outbreak of Covid-19.
It noted many English-language news reports about the closure of Fort Detrick were deleted recently, raising “suspicions over the lab's ‘relationship’ with the novel coronavirus”.
This is the latest in a series of remarks by Chinese diplomats and the state media fuelling a theory that the virus did not originate in China, but was only found there.
Last week, the official Xinhua news agency claimed that the epidemic was first reported in China but “that does not mean it necessarily originated in China”.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian has even tweeted that “it might be US army who brought the epidemic to Wuhan”.
While the BBC has "gracefully" suspended changes to TV licenses for over 75's from 1st June to 1st August.

And because of the lack of US research and preparation for any pandemic, it now looks like this administration is trying to buy up EU companies.
NYT - U.S. Offered ‘Large Sum’ to German Company for Access to Coronavirus Vaccine Research, German Officials Say
BERLIN — The Trump administration attempted to persuade a German firm developing a possible vaccine for coronavirus to move its research work to the United States, German officials said, raising fears in Berlin that President Trump was trying to assure that any inoculation would be available first, and perhaps exclusively, in the United States.

Also reports that Trump in his Huawei battle also tried to buy up European telecommunications makers, Ericsson and Nokia.

If the mortality rate turns out to be the 1% many experts are using as their working assumption then that would mean 531,100 deaths. But if Whitty’s insistence that the rate will be closer to 0.6% proves accurate, then that would involve 318,660 people dying.
Not very cheerful. :-(
Shame they couldn't get the link correct as it's 7.9m.

Where do they get those figures?
1% of 79m is 790,000
1% of 7.9m is 79,000

I over stated it, the people are very aggressive is their social distancing, commerce looks to be way down. I did go to the local pot shop to stock up since they will be closed till the end of the month and they were busy. I plan on going to Costco tomorrow for a few supplies and booze. I expect them to be open since grocery stores are being allowed to stay open.
