Win 10 does not like being cut off from the Internet. Also to check back with Microsoft HQ as to whether you have their requisite licences and updated payments so as to be allowed to do anything... Go retro with WindowsXP! I remember hearing about Lindows. And that probably is why something like "Zorin" which looks a lot like XP doesn't mention the brand of Windows at all..... Tom M A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

Go retro with WindowsXP! Hi Martin, I have to wonder why anyone running Linux of any flavor would want the OS to look anything like Micro$oft junk. :| Micro$oft is NOT a company to be imitated. Go retro with WindowsXP! The Windows gui and/or the ability to run Windows app on a non-windows machine would be something to look forward to, however. Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

For once I am not going to say much. Via https://blogs.microsoft.com/on-the-issues/2020/04/23/biannual-digital-trust-reports/ you can look up the Law Enforcement Requests per country at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/about/corporate-responsibility/lerr/ and see what law enforcement is able to get from your activity if they want information about your activity: What are 'content' and 'non-content' data? And you're willingly giving this to MS for them to store. For how long? |

I have a quick question about Windows 10 page file. I know that the size of the file is reset to the recommended size after reboot, but is there any way to reduce the size without rebooting ? I am running Rosetta on a system with limited disk space, and it fetches tasks successfully after a reboot, but the |

Had a cumulative update this night on my Windows 10 1903 home edition. Had to stop the PC manually and reboot. Now running Rosetta@home on CPU, GPUGRID on my GTX 1060 GPU and LHC@home Theory on VirtualBox. Too bad the Einstein@home Gravitational Wave 02 search fail on the GPU, which has a 3 GB Video RAM. In the Einsein@home YouTube video I finally saw the face of Maria Alessandra Papa, Chief scientist in the search of GW at Hanover. Tullio |

Don't know is this is due to the Upgrade but an Einstein@home Gravitational Wave 02 task has completed on my GTX 1060 with 3 GB Video RAM using 1962 MB of Video RAM and 11 GB of system RAM on a total of 24 GB. Tullio |

Sadly, no surprise for this news snippet: US-CERT lists the 10 most-exploited security bugs and, yeah, it's mostly Microsoft holes people forgot to patch All at what cost and frustration to the All at what profit to Microsoft and the anti-malware 'industry'?... If this is Microsoft's idea of a joke. it's not a very good one! Gone midnight, so switched the Win 10 rig's monitor on - wanted tp play today's daily challenge on Microsoft Mahjong. No internet connect, Boinc says the same. Only problem is that Win 7 & Linux rigs have connections. Okay, restart rig after closing down Boinc, rig restarts with blue screen stating working on updates... ...WTF? I had updates delayed as far as allowed in settings - 30 days which made it 28/5, as it's only 22nd... Edit: Now stating: Your pc ran into a problem & needs a restart. If you call a support person, give them this info: Stop code - Driver Power State Failure. WTF? I'll lay odds, it's the 20 04 update crap! |

This might be too late to stop the current update, but are you aware of the trick to tell Windows 10 that you are using a metered connection ? I have not used it yet, but it might be useful. |

No, not aware of it. Well after getting it back, checked Windows update, not the Spring Update but a Security Intelligence update 21/5/20. Surprised as 16-17 & 19/5 Security updates went without a hitch. Not really bothered about that rig, it was a freebie as was Win 10. If it proves problematic, I'll NNT run out all wu's then wipe it out & install Linux Mint. |

https://www.theverge.com/2020/6/1/21276653/microsoft-windows-10-may-2020-update-block-known-issues-list Microsoft is preventing a large number of devices from updating to the Windows 10 May 2020 Update. While the software company released the update last week, Microsoft has quietly acknowledged that there are a number of known issues preventing the update from being installed on a variety of PCs. Microsoft has a list of 10 issues it’s currently investigating, and 9 of them have resulted in a “compatibility hold†which stops the Windows 10 May 2020 Update from being installed via Windows Update. One issue involving unexpected errors or reboots with always-on, always-connected devices, affects devices like Microsoft’s Surface Pro 7 or Surface Laptop 3. If you’ve been checking Windows Update for the May 2020 Update and not seeing anything, then it’s likely that your device is being blocked or throttled from updating. Microsoft has also added a warning to Windows Update over the weekend for devices that aren’t ready to be updated. |
