Where I grew up in LA We had refineries nearby, home of the Great Pumpkin at one time(a natural gas storage tank), technically that could be good, but actually isn't, I have asthma, so far it's just cold drinks and not My lungs, part of My stomach got there first in a hiatal hernia, ice cream is not as bad and I'm not sure why.

Be glad you didn't grow up near one, though gasoline would be cheaper there, Lomita is not a lot less than here @ $3.01. Gas in SF is $3.35 at the moment.

Me I'm looking at Crestline that is about twice the elevation as here and gas there is $3.45, plus it's about 25F cooler in summer and warmer in the winter, of course there are lots and lots of trees, My nephew bought a place there in July, I get to go see it in a week at Xmas. Good thing I get from 35.6-37.33mpg.

Zoom, I can't see that image in your last post.

Last night when I drove past the gas station I noticed that regular (87 octane?) gas was $1.97 per gallon. This is in a small town in central Texas. That's the lowest I've seen it for a while.

Okay, I can see that one.

I have to question whether that can be called a Jack-O-Lantern. Aren't they supposed to be carved from pumpkins, etc?

Only if you have a rigid point of view, it looks like one, so it is, tell a kid it's not and you might find they don't agree with you.

Locally (Prescott, AZ) the lowest is $2.73/gallon for regular. There was a news story the other day about a 'glitch' at a station in the Phoenix (Chandler) area where prices were $0.02 and $0.03/gallon for a few hours until the management caught it and corrected it.

I think oil prices have gone up a little, but whatever the case may be, I just looked on a site called "gas buddy", and there are apparently stations in town selling it much cheaper than what I've noticed near me.

According to FortWorthGasPrices (GasBuddy) prices are on a slight increase in the metro area.
A gas station about 3 miles south in the next town over from my home has regular unleaded for $1.62.
The gas station just outside my subdivision has it for $1.71.

Do you think your proximity to refineries is what makes your prices so low?

I'd say yes, gasoline doesn't have to be moved far there by tanker truck.

Here the lowest price is now $3.06 on gasbuddy for 87.

There appears to be no major oil refineries in Florida and I live in South Florida between Miami and Ft. Lauderdale.

Filled up at a local Mobile Station a couple of days ago. Price was $2.02 for Regular.

Edit: But I have seen it as high as $2.37 for Regular at other Gas Stations along heavily traveled streets.

Along the fwy here in Yermo, two stations, a Shell and a Chevron have 87 gas at $4.79, the Shell sells gas and has a Subway and a Dairy Queen too.

Message 1974086 - Posted: 7 Jan 2019, 21:58:18 UTC - in response to Message 1974058.

Just got back from some grocery shopping and topped of my gas tank for the low price of $1.629 at the station mention in my previous post. Just a few minutes before I was pulling out of the gas station a delivery tanker arrived and I watched the price exploded to $1.959 for regular unleaded! That was the largest in-day increase I have seen a local gas station jack the price in a bit over 10 years.

Do you think your proximity to refineries is what makes your prices so low?

I think that is part of it. Texas also has less state and local taxes on fuel (compared to other states).

The Dallas/Fort Worth metro area is home to several refineries & distribution centers. The two largest are located in Arlington & Mansfield TX - right in the middle of the metroplex.
