Is it normal for tasks to be in the pending state for a very long time?
It's not unusual.
That one only just Validated today (Dec 23rd).
There are all sorts of server issues at the moment, so it could take a few more days to show as Validated & eventually be cleared from your task list.

Interesting this 3 month old pending task task gets validated a few hours after posting in the forum ;)

I don't mind really if it was skipped over somehow, its all done now.

Thanks to whoever organised the validation :)

Hopefully, I shrunk this down enough to not be annoying.
Note that this is a basement with an open stairwell.
Enough heat rises that I only used 21 therms of gas heating the place; the 980s did the rest :)

@Jim Good for the gas bill not so good for the gas company :) How much do you think cooling would cost you in the summer?

I don't have a/c here, but since the power co throws a summer 100% surcharge on all electric usage over 500 kwh/month, I usually ramp down a bit from Jun1 thru Sep 30.
I'll have to play it by ear this next summer, as I've added a ton of capacity here since last Oct 1. I might relocate the servers near an open window and away from the stairs for the summer.

Fair enough thanks for the insight. Just wondering do they at the surcharge because in summer they run low on power?

I have to replace a cpu and a psu and move 2 other PCs, it will be a real scream since I have to lift each PC cause each weighs about 50lbs.

It will scare My cat, but what can I do? Pain pills like 650mg Tylenol and 800mg Motrin don't help My shoulder.

It's as good a time as ever to do so.

Merry Xmas to those who celebrate this holiday.

Like many large users the University will have negotiated a price for their energy, which may have seasonal and time-of-day variations built in, and possibly (probably) "flattened" across the whole period of the agreement.

So why not make it a bargain instead, rob?

Any aliens or extraterrestrials instead, and they could be harvesting any energy for only a given purpose, namely self-survival.

While waiting to see if things are better, the same, or worse, here in an interesting read from Anandtech.
Analyzing Intel’s Discrete Xe-HPC Graphics Disclosure.

Nvidia has been out in front by miles for several years now, but AMD have started to catch up, and Intel are now taking it very seriously as well.
The next couple of years are going to be very interesting when it comes to GPU compute.

On the Leader board it is really nice that we are all "sagging" together..... Heck if things stay hickupie long enough our top producer will be below one million.

The only trouble is that Intel has been talking about doing this for 6-7yrs at least now and sadly still nothing has come from it.

Cheers.

When people have got enough work in their caches is anybody running more than one task on Windows 10 on a RTX 2070 (non-super) and using the machine as a daily driver?

Based on my own experience with lower-end cards it depends entirely on what you want your gpu to do at the same time you are trying to crunch. It is possible to generate a "laggy" keyboard/mouse response under Windows by setting the parameters on the gpu to a very high setting.

If you are just doing word processing, browsing the internet etc, you should be able to push 1 or more gpu tasks through under a stock Windows setup and still have a responsive "daily driver".
