Out of curiosity what brand of RTX card would you choose will also be used for gaming As for the model, that depends on what games you are playing, and what settings you use. For price, performance & power usage the RX 2060 is a god little card. A very good cruncher, and good enough for most games (unless you want everything set to Ultra settings).[/quote] Thanks for the tip. I would be interested to see what the runtimes are like under windows |

ps. Maybe I should work on a heat resistant "Seti Toaster" decal that I can apply to any toaster or toaster oven? Ha ha. I should think any normal decal should be able to be applied to the sides of a toaster or toaster oven . . . . . or I can see a product recall and consumer safety alert about getting burns from making your toast. If being applied to an older design when such trivial events as burns were not considered, then a decal made of Kapton would suffice. and you'd have to find one of those 7x waterblock bridges. Yes. Unless you’re LTT, then EK will just make you custom stuff for free. Seti@Home classic workunits: 29,492 CPU time: 134,419 hours |

your criteria listed a case with sides on it. not that they had to be plugged directly to the motherboard. Yes it was using risers. However, GPU specific server cases exist that will take 8-10 GPUs and plug directly into a daughter board with PCIe links back to the main motherboard. ASUS makes one, supermicro has one or several also. they are VERY expensive and VERY loud. I have that case, it is very versatile. It sits empty now with it's 1600watt power supply waiting for a future build someday. |

Greetings, BOINC just gave me this message: SETI@home: Notice from BOINC Ideas? Have a great day! :) Siran [edit] I just restarted the PC and that WU seems to be running now. I'd still like to know what that was about, if there are any ideas... :) [/edit] CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. For further proof of the correlation of the servers being unable to split work when their I/O is tied up with ever growing WU deletions; look how fast the splitters were able to build up the RTS buffer once the WU deletions were finished. The RTS buffer had been struggling for the past 3 days at half its normal amount, but shot right to its normal 640K size when WU deletions finished. So I was perusing E-bay for any cheap and cheerful GPU's when I came across this Gigabyte GTX 750ti Now to be fair to the seller, it does state " Has a fair bit of dust on it, but in fully working order" Sorry that much dust will cause overheating!! Why would you take a picture of it looking like that, even if you cannot get he cover off, a small brush carefully inserted between the fan blades works wonders!! Suffice it to say I wont be buying that! |

Greetings, There just HAS to be something I am overlooking. I just cannot figure it out. As it is, it should work as advertised. Working with my old laptop: 1. installed Windows 7 Professional and set the laptop up for remote access 2. installed most of the updates 3. installed Firefox, will not use IE 4. installed BOINC and attached to SETI 5. allowed BOINC though the firewall

Almost all the time the problem is the password. Hidden characters being the most common. Do you have port 31416 allowed through the firewall? Have you restarted BT? Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Woohoo! :) I followed some advice from Jord given to someone in another thread. I shutdown BOINC, deleted gui_rpc_auth.cfg and restarted BOINC. I don't know what it's putting in there, but it's no password I know of. I tried one of my own to no avail. I removed the gibberish password, saved the file and restarted BOINC. I then went to BT and cleared the password column and it worked. I think what I wasn't doing was restarting BOINC after changing the file. The firewall doesn't specify a port, it says "any". Actually, BOINC Client was the only thing allowed through the firewall so I added BOINC Manager too, just for grins. Thanks Keith and have a great day! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. In regards to processing speed when choosing a graphics card what do I need to look at? Will be on Windows Choose the highest card you can afford from Shaggie76's chart. Since you will be running the SoG app, then either Nvidia or AMD are candidates. Amazon has got both the EVGA RTX 2070 Black Edition and the EVGA RTX 2070 XC Black Edition selling for the same price $459.99. Get the EVGA RTX 2070 XC Black Edition as it uses the full length RTX 2080 PCB which allows the EVGA Hybrid AIO cooling kit to be used on it if you decide later on for water cooling. https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=400-HY-1184-B1 The base EVGA RTX 2070 Black Edition has the half length PCB and doesn't allow the AIO kit to be used. Thanks Keith I will not be using Amazon I will be using most likely local people and I'm based in New Zealand. Might be worth holding off for a few weeks just to see how much their prices drop. With the latest AMD cards just released, and the Nvidia RTX "Super" cards, the pricing of RTX 2070/ 2070Ti & RTX 2080 cards is likely to fall considerably over the next month or so as they are now being discontinued. Thanks Keith I will not be using Amazon I will be using most likely local people and I'm based in New Zealand. My EVGA RTX 2070 Black Edition cards are $20 cheaper than three weeks ago when I purchased them. Figure the prices have further to fall as vendors unload old stock. Or it might be worth just buying a RTX 2060 Super- RTX 2070 performance, but cheaper. Just had a look at my usual place of purchase- RTX 2070 $780-$900 RTX 2060 Super $750-$850 Might as well just get the RTX 2060 super, the RTX 2070s might even be out of stock before their price catches up with what they are now worth.
