So, instead, I run BOINC/SETI@Home continuously on our "retired" Android smartphones, WiFi only with no SIMs in them. The result of this: in every one of them the battery has swelled and burst the casing open.

Thank you for the warning. So I need an Android 6 Tablet?

Like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/TABLET-10-POLLICI-DECA-CORE-Android-4G-LTE-128GB-ROM-6GB-RAM-SIM-GPS-WIFI-SIM/362586577518?hash=item546bd81a6e%3Ag%3AuX4AAOSw7KhcjKMV&LH_BIN=1 ?

Except it is Italian language :)

Tried to run SETI@Home at BOINC running onn my Redmi Note 7 with Android 9 (MIUI Global 10.2). I've got only computation error for all tasks.

Is it impossible to run it at my smartphone?

PS: Tasks from Einstein@Home and Rosetta@Home are working well.

Until someone builds and tests the SETI applications for Android 9 (or even 7 & 8) I'm sad to say the answer is "no" :-(

What, no section for Android?

I just got a Samsung Galaxy J2 phone to replace my On5. Since installing the BOINC app, it's no longer able to crunch any work units for SETI@Home. I get nothing but "computation error" messages.

My On5 was able to crunch the work units perfectly. I think maybe the J2 has a different chipset other than what SETI@Home's used to. Hopefully the BOINC code will be made more compatible to work with the J2. In the meantime, is there any workaround?

Depending on your telco you may have a version of Android that is not supported (currently) by SETI.
For example, although Samsung say that my J2 should have Android version 5.1.1 it actually has version 8.0.0. I'm not sure how one would get out of this particular corner, but I can see for some it may be a very disappointing corner to be in.

Hi, I've just noticed that a lot of tasks on my Android tablet, and some on my phone have been failing. No real point to this post other than to raise awareness of the issue and to ask if there will be an update to the jobs in order to fix this or whether the failing tasks will stop being pushed.

The problem has also been summarized by Jord here, and the eventual announcement of any fix/update (dont hold your breath) will appear first on github then in the S@h news section. Devices who can presently crunch S@h data can be found there (but the compatibility devil lies in the details and the OS version, which can change at any moment during an update). In the meantime my 8 cores smartphone presently crunches WCG and Einstein data, so this small S@h's loss is another project's gain.

Checking in, I adjusted a couple of settings for the network, and it started downloading.

But next, apparently most of it ended up in computation errors, and I next clicked on the trash bin after opening up the box for the task.

Except for the play/pause button for suspend versus continue in the usual way, the tasks may not seem to upload or report, despite running out in error.

One task is apparently running, with the unit now turned on and the display visible, after the adjustment in the Settings, but for now only 3,4 % complete, so this is going to take some time.

Please read over the first post; this is due to your device using Android 9. As noted some work units may complete properly and then the device may start using that platform that worked all the time.

Mr. Kevvy.

At least I was told to continue running a couple of tasks, in order for posting privileges to continue.

While Linux/Unix is not the same as Windows, particularly the interface, it should be more the internal design of the processor itself which should be deciding the way in which tasks are being run.

So while having this contents in the Linux/Unix thread under Q & A, and next not bothers me, I really have not kept a tab with these things, including the way applications are being developed and maintained.

While this particular phone is quite new on the market, the margin of errors, or error rate, is completely unknown to me, and because this is my first attempt at this, it is almost impossible to compare with other possible users.

Could add that I am getting a message that the battery could be blamed for a couple of crashes, but here connecting to the mains for this, while recalling that I visited the battery in the Settings earlier on, and will have to check in again.

...and Android is not the same as Linux/Unix :-(
The user interfaces on most mobile phones are designed for the tiny screen typical of phones, not the much larger screens typical even of laptops. Thus the phone user interface is more often than not laid out in a totally different pattern to that of a "computer" screen.
The thing is Android has undergone such a rapid development and transformation that it is very difficult for a volunteer developed program to keep up with the changes each generation has brought along, while allowing people to continue to use their old phones and tablets that they have "retired" from use as phones.
